The Most Important Reason Not to Use Internet Explorer

December 11th, 2007 by joe

I just realized this blog looks completely screwed up when viewed via Internet Explorer. Mainly, the sidebars are completely whacked. I have no idea why that is because the elements I am using are pretty much out-of-the-box Wordpress.

(I think you Mac folks are fine using Safari.)

I could research and try to fix this IE problem, but a far superior solution would be for all of you - and I do mean ALL of you - to stop using Internet Explorer and instead use Firefox. With a reasonable broadband connection it will take all of five minutes to download and install the software, and even with DSL or dial up it is worth the effort, so if you are an IE person please go do that right now.

For anyone who has not already gotten a whiff of Vista, let me remind you what I have been saying for years: The less Microsoft software you use, the better.

Firefox is a far superior browser and after switching you will want to buy me steak dinners once a year for the rest of my life.

And you know what? I just might let you.

You are correct. Our IT guy at work installed Firefox on all of our computers over a year ago.
We did have some issues with it logging onto meeting / conference sites six months ago. It is my understanding those issues are now cleared up and it is good to go.

    NVTH looks better with Firefox.

You mean there are people out there still using IE? :)

Actually, in Safari I can’t see the comments on the right sidebar, just the bullets but not any words. Or I should say, the words show up when I first go into the page (or refresh the page) but then they disappear after a second. I can see smiley faces there if there is a smiley face at the beginning of someone’s comment. Weird.

Thanks Greg and Vivian for the moral support. You hear about all sorts of “IE hacks” that programmers have to use to get Web software to work with IE and now I guess I’ve discovered a need for one with my WP template if I was so inclined. Which I doubt I am.

Well that does not sound too good. There must be some javascript that’s making the browser read it wrong. I’ll try moving some things around to see what happens.

Looks like the Old Dominion Blog Alliance code was causing part of the problem so I moved it to the very last item to minimize the damage; which is sort of a shame since they are such nice people.

But a few other things are still messed up so we’re going to need to launch a pro-Firefox campaign for totally selfish reasons, it appears.

I’m sorry, I have been trying to post since this new site was born using Firefox. On the old site if I used Firefox I could not read it because the page was covered by the sidebar.

Anyway, it looks like I’m back! Sorry Zimco

What does “won’t post” mean, HE? You are able to comment. Is part of the page missing?
