um, you can hire whoever the heck you want -- within the law, Brian. That means that if you run a daycare, you can't hire a convicted sex offender. And, if you are a US business, you can't legally & knowingly hire people who have forged their papers, stolen someone else's identity, etc. And, particularly, the government shouldn't be hiring people who come here in contravention of our laws. Can you imagine what would happen to the demand for illegal labor if just the government -- at all levels -- insisted that all of its employees, contractors and their subcontractors, were only legal hires?

"Are you saying that you want to restrict hiring practices and have laws that restrict the freedom of people to hire whom they want?"

Correct me if I am wrong, but are these not on the books already at the Federal and State levels ? If true, then The People have already spoken.

<devil's advocate mode>
Just a minute there. Are you saying that you want to restrict hiring practices and have laws that restrict the freedom of people to hire whom they want? What about free enterprise? What about capitalism? The protectionist laws stopping companies from hiring anyone they want are nothing more than socialist redistribution of wealth from the rich to the empowered "citizens" of this country.

Free enterprise! Capitalism! No restrictions on who can work where or when!
</devil's advocate mode>

Hmmm... Do we want free enterprise, or immigration laws?
