Time for a Party (part II)
May 7th, 2008 by jacob
“Cathymac is right, it is way too early to look into a crystal ball and empathically state what will happen.”
Nonsense. This looks to be a great year for Democrats. The Republican margin in the house will slip some more, thank you GW, McCain and Graham. The Democrat party could wind up with over 60 senators.
The Republican party has lost membership, and money because it has alienated the conservative base, not the moderates. Are you listening Dan? Unless something is done to mend the fences with conservatives the Republican party will return to perpetual minority status, AND, they richly deserve it. The big squishy middle is not the place to hunt for Republicans.
What happened in 2006 is the base stayed home, and the stupid party still does not get it. Well boys, even more are going to stay home now. Note the money dried up when the scamnesty bill got spawned. Why? Because the squishy moderates in the middle stopped giving?! No, the party faithful got the shaft once too often.
Now the party needs to earn the vote, they need to court the conservatives, with red meat issues like a fence, low taxes, earmark elimination, spending reduction. Telling me that the socialists are coming, while true is no longer enough. The result is the same.
We voted for them and they got busy courting the rest of the country. Phooey!! They had all three branches for 6 years and nothing got done. Now, show me the money because your credit and your word aint worth spit.

Jacob my friend, I must respond since I was referenced (maligned?) in your header.
To quote my favorite dirty politician - I feel your pain. I agree with everything you outlined about the direction of the party and the last 2 elections. Your laundry list of demands is spot on, but unlike you my fear of Obama and his Socialist agenda (and ruination of this country) is far greater than my ire at my own party and McCain. I know you are probably shaking your head right now, but given the choice between a left of center McCain and a true Socialist I will take the left of center. It will buy time.
The reason I asked Stone, who are the current conservative leaders, was because THERE ARE NO CONSERVATIVE LEADERS. So my question to myself is, Self: Do I vote for McCain (and support, with nose fully plugged) and hope that someone emerges in the next 4 years to lead us out of our current demise? Do I pray that McCain does not F up this country too bad, or let it go to hell in a hand basket with Obama? Answer to self: I buy time.
I am on your side, I just don’t agree with your decision to take what Obama is handing out.
This nuances of this predicament are better discussed with a couple beers, but I will try to explain my position via the typed word.

Cathymac,
I was quating dan who was sighting you. Therefore you have been sighted but not maligned. Dan on the other hand HAS been maligned.

“low taxes, earmark elimination, spending reduction.”
Why the GOP is not doing well you state so emphatically, but you seem to miss your own well made point my friend.
The GOP got taken to the woodshed on 06 in that they :
“low taxes”
but forgot this part of the Republican credo :
“earmark elimination, spending reduction”
In other words, they cut taxes like Republicans, but they spent like Democrats.
“They had all three branches for 6 years and nothing got done.”
THAT is the political seppuku they committed. They did do something, they ran up the national debt.
One must be conservative to be a Republican ? BS. One could argue that the reason the GOP is losing membership is because the conservatives believe the GOP is their domain, and no one else’s, and because of this, they are chasing many supporters away.
Reagan was the President he was because he appealed to the moderates. He even has a class of moderate voters named for him ; “Reagan Democrats:”.
“The Democrat party could wind up with over 60 senators.”
Even more credence on why it is crucial that McCain take the White House.
Vote, or do not vote, serve our country in the manner that you feel best suits you. Your call, and yours alone.

“Dan on the other hand HAS been maligned.”
Glad you straightened us out as it was not apparent

The site has a good video describing the NVTA debacle and Bob’s role in bringing it down.

Ok, my pick for McCain’s VP : Michael Steele
May 7th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
Dan,
Can we forgo McCain and just pick Steele?
May 7th, 2008 at 10:43 pm
jacob, what, you don’t like salt and peppa ?
May 7th, 2008 at 10:59 pm
Dan, Steele is from MD, I’ll take ‘old Bay’ over old and gray any day.

I would like for him to pick Sarah Palin, Bobby Jindal, Tom Tancredo or Duncan Hunter. I will vote for the liberal donkey as long as he doesn’t pick Bloomberg. Then I swear I’m going to write in Ted Nugent.
May 9th, 2008 at 8:16 am
Rexxy,
No one is that stupid to pick Bloomberg for anything. Shoot, forgot about Hilly!
May 12th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
jacob,
Appears that your Fairy Godmother was listening, is Bob Barr conservative enough for ya ?
May 12th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
Tancredo is the kiss of death!
May 12th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Dan,
I am against all third party conservative candidates. All you do is split the conservative vote. Thats how we got ol’ Bubba C in the first place.
May 12th, 2008 at 7:21 pm
Dan,
Furthermore Barr is conservative, I do not recall if he is A conservative.

jacob, advocating for staying home on election day,” Time To Party”, does not also split the conservative vote ? Your rationale seems a little inconsistent here.
May 13th, 2008 at 11:50 am
Bob Barr was great for second amendment rights. Ol’ Bob wants us out of the middle east post-haste. I woundn’t say that he is a conservative. Everyone hits the dartboard with a dart once in a while.
Again, Jacob, I would like to impress upon you the importance of voting. On the other hand, being as how this election stinks from here to Katmandu, I would like to see about 6 to 8 candidates from every party and fringe running for the “gold ring”. Other countries do it. Why should it be so strange for us to have other than a 2 or 3 party system?
May 13th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Dan,
“advocating for staying home on election day,” Time To Party”, does not also split the conservative vote ? Your rationale seems a little inconsistent here.”
It is not. There is a subtlety here, if we run out and vote for someone else the doofuses who currently run the Republican party will claim we went and ‘wasted’ our vote on the 3rd party candidate. If we stay home the message is clearer, “This Republican candidate is not acceptable!”
May 13th, 2008 at 4:51 pm
To whom will we be saying that? The party leaders? It was not they who chose McCain, but the primary voters.
How would you change the process such that a more palatable candidate will be chosen, or are you just trying to discourage unpalatable candidates from running? The problem is that McCain was more palatable to more Republican voters than anyone else.
May 13th, 2008 at 5:16 pm
Jack,
In ‘Part I’ of this tribute the death of the party I grew up with I mentioned that the one good thing that will come out of this is the closing of the primaries. Republican did not elect McLame, Democrats and Independents gave him life. The liberal MSM touted what a great guy he is as well. Once the curmudgeon won the nomination they promptly turned on Mr Maverick. Why support an erzatz Democrat when you can support the real McCoy?
