Senate Report: Bush Didn’t Lie

From the local right-wing rag:

On Iraq’s nuclear weapons program? The president’s statements “were generally substantiated by intelligence community estimates.”

On biological weapons, production capability and those infamous mobile laboratories? The president’s statements “were substantiated by intelligence information.”

On chemical weapons, then? “Substantiated by intelligence information.”

On weapons of mass destruction overall (a separate section of the intelligence committee report)? “Generally substantiated by intelligence information.” Delivery vehicles such as ballistic missiles? “Generally substantiated by available intelligence.” Unmanned aerial vehicles that could be used to deliver WMDs? “Generally substantiated by intelligence information.”

…statements regarding Iraq’s support for terrorist groups other than al-Qaeda “were substantiated by intelligence information.” Statements that Iraq provided safe haven for Abu Musab al-Zarqawi and other terrorists with ties to al-Qaeda “were substantiated by the intelligence assessments,” and statements regarding Iraq’s contacts with al-Qaeda “were substantiated by intelligence information.”

Here is the report. Start about page 16 and every 5 or so pages are the “Conclusion” paragraphs.

The intelligence was problematic – but as the report amply demonstrates both Democrats and Republicans drew the same conclusions about the threat. As Hiatt notes in his editorial, we must wait and see what a future administration will do about future threats, about which side it will err on.

  1. J. Tyler Ballance says:

If you are willing to believe that he didn’t lie, then you must conclude that he is stupid. So what is it going to be, DUMB or DISHONEST?

It will take the citizens, Democrats and Republicans working together for Liberty, at least two election cycles to un-f**k what Bush has done to our Republic.

Just one example for repair and reform: If you are interested in Justice in America, listen to this story at This American Life about how a fiercely competitive prosecutor allowed his desire to get a win, get in the way of justice. We need real reform to our system that rewards prosecutors for “wins” rather than for finding the truth and ensuring justice is done.

    Profanity alert.

I can only imagine what a Chicago Public Radio story would conclude on any topic. I won’t be listening to it, thanks.

  3. Well if you spend any time here you know there are precious few times we praise GW Bush, and that none of our regular bloggers are remotely Bush “fans.” I think he has been a disaster – but not on every issue. If we can’t make a technical observation such as the above – and can’t read a report and objectively understand what it says – then we ain’t too bright, now are we, JTB?

  4. AFF says:

JTB- Don’t waste your time with these jokers. I doubt anyone of them could grasp the nuance of Baltimore raised Ira Glass.

As Joe said “we ain’t to bright, now are we?”

For once i would implore you to listen to the man.

  5. Oh, oh! Let me take a shot at it: “Baltimore raised Ira Glass” is a type of dinnerware that only Hollywood stars and liberal elites even know about?

  6. Sanity says:

My vote goes to he’s dumb and Cheney’s a liar.

  7. G. Stone says:

The previous intellectual dishonesty of those on the left having spent the last 5 years busting bushes balls for political gain will only make it tougher for any future president. Future chiefs will remember the the vicious attacks Bush received on acting on intel available to all involved at the time. This may very well quell action where it is needed costing lives.
This is way too serious a discussion to have with those motivated by hatred of this president.

  8. G. Stone says:

    Hey Sanity

Dick Cheney called, he wants to know if you want to go hunting with him ?

Please go, it will be fun.

  9. Jack says:

Yep, that dummy twice beat the suuuuper-geniuses the socialists put up against him.

  10. I suppose if our two resident suuuuper-geniuses are having trouble understanding the report, they should take it up with Sen Rockefeller rather than advertise their reading comprehension difficulties here. It’s not our responsibility to translate it from grown-up English. Or go to a liberal blog where everyone is equally illiterate and they can chortle at the president and stare at the ceiling and eat paste with everyone else.

  11. jacob says:

    Joe,
What is the point. BDS inhibits reading comprehension and cognitive skills. inSanity does not do all that well on a good day. Rolling this red meat out just causes foaming at the mouth. I do not know about the two up top but they are probably infected as well.

    inSanity et al,
Bush IS an idiot. Still, blame him for what he has done. Inventing other crap just to make political hay only makes YOU (insanity, AFF etc) look like dishonest idiots. Which come to think of it, that is what you call Bush and Co.

    The irony is awe inspiring.
