Not Even 100 Days
June 29th, 2008 by joe
Found in a Freep post: It is reported in a Spanish-language paper that both John McCain and Barack Obama told the NALEO Conference audience they would push for comprehensive immigration reform before the 100th day of their presidency.
I imagine no one has fallen off their chair from learning this.
But don’t plan that Election Day fishing trip before reading this article on the impact each candidate will likely have on the Supreme Court.

McCain is not my ideal candidate. He is a politician.
That said, he seems likely to appoint conservatives to the court. And if we can replace Stevens and one or two other liberal justices, we can have a reasonable court for a while.
June 30th, 2008 at 5:53 am
I believe he’ll put less liberal justices on the bench then Obama but I don’t think they’ll be close to what we consider to be ideal.
June 30th, 2008 at 6:52 am
McCain could nominate the twin brothers of Alito and Roberts and it wouldn’t matter because the Senate will be at least 55-45 in favor of the Dems. Any decent nominee will never get out of committee.
June 30th, 2008 at 6:59 am
It’s not guaranteed that only a liberal activist judge will make it out of a Senate committee, but it is true there is no guarantee McCain will nominate a strict constructionist.
June 30th, 2008 at 8:16 am
If you consider what happened with all those Bush nominees that were held up, not only by the Dems but by the McCain led Gang of 14, anyone who has any faith in McCain’s judicial picks not to mention the Dems willingness to confirm anyone decent is, well, making a huge leap of faith. It’s a matter of hoping (which is neither a strategy nor a tactic) McCain will make the right picks versus knowing that BHO won’t.

Ted and others :
Sometimes we over think this stuff.
McCain is a possible crap shoot.
Obama is just south of a Marxists.
With McCain you the potential for disappointment.
With Obama you have the guarantee of a disaster.
Pick one.

Agree 100%.

Greg,
The next 4 years will be a disaster regardless. This year is turning out to be a doozy as it is. Do we want the Republican label to take the credit for the next four years. Let the RINO’s running for office get crushed like the dogs they are, from McLame on down.
Show these characters that ignoring the conservatives, taking them for granted will only lead to defeat at the ballot box. mcLame, specter and their ilk despise conservatives. We have a raft of such running for office. The lie to us or call us names or flat out show contempt for us. They have gotten it into thier heads that they can win without us.
I am going to stay home and get whach old westerns. John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, McQueen, Brener, Gable, Cooper, and Stewart
June 30th, 2008 at 4:25 pm
Jacob, if you stay home, you should read a good book to prepare for an Obama term :
Karl Marx and the Future of the Human
June 30th, 2008 at 4:52 pm
Oh, jacob, Gable was a sissy! Did he play in any oater besides Marilyn Monroe’s last film?
June 30th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Lovisa,
first I am blood thirsty now I pick a sissy? Have you ever seen ANY of the movies that Gable played an action role, like some of westerns and safari flicks. There is more to the boy than Red Butler from gone with the wind.
June 30th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Yea, I remember Gable with Ava Gardner in Mogambo (Mocambo?)
Correction: it was RHETT Butler.

Jacob,
We’ve talked about this. You know what is at steak…I meen stake. I can’t make you go down to the polls to pull that lever but…what am I saying. Heck yes I can. I will bring back flogging as a national sport. Did you forget about the races for Senate and Representative? I will short-out your TV. This is your right as an American. Do you realize what would happen if illegals could vote (other than the Clintons)? Get your act together you blood-thirsty impish killing machine!!!!
June 30th, 2008 at 10:11 pm
“Impish” - actually he is sort of elfish, is he not? “Hie, Frodo, git ye here wit’ ye shotgun and blast these pigeons, for we have ale awaitin’ us.”
June 30th, 2008 at 10:23 pm
Ale! did someone say ALE! When! Where!?! Me thirst, me terrible thirst. Ooohhhh the eeevvviiiilll of it all!
June 30th, 2008 at 10:29 pm

June 30th, 2008 at 11:49 pm

July 1st, 2008 at 10:54 am
Dan,
I got a fridge full of beer, let me know when you want to come over, and I’ll clear the decks. Joe, Jack. ACT, Stone, you’re invited too.
July 1st, 2008 at 12:25 pm
Normally, of course, such an uncouth suggestion would repel me; however in this instance I am oddly intrigued. I just might have to clear a spot in my calendar to find out what this “group of men sitting on the deck drinking beer” concept is all about.
July 1st, 2008 at 1:00 pm
Jacob,
Get some red wine and Joe will be all over that deck-promise!
July 1st, 2008 at 1:27 pm
Most excellent jacob. Can I bring a couple of pounds of brats, dogs and trimmings ?
How does Sunday work for everyone ?
July 1st, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Hmm, well I suppose since the upcoming week I will be living the bachelor life Sunday might be EXTREMELY convenient …
July 1st, 2008 at 2:05 pm
Anybody bringing brats and dogs to barbecue party wouldn’t be welcome at my house.
Leave the kids and pets at home!
July 1st, 2008 at 4:57 pm
Saturday is ok as well, as is any evening next week. The wife and kids are going out of town for a week, so my schedule is MY schedule !
July 1st, 2008 at 10:47 pm
Saturday would work well. Sunday on got the boy back from Iraq and her dad. It would be appropo to have some relaxation before the storm. My schedule is not mine. I am PW (prisoner of war
).
July 1st, 2008 at 11:10 pm
ACT, we already knew you were PW from some of your posts.
July 2nd, 2008 at 12:55 am
He has a strong woman behind him, I can attest to that. No man could keep the ACT-meister in line.
July 2nd, 2008 at 5:03 pm
Saturday afternoon is ok for me but Saturday night we have plans. The rest of next week is good for me also.
July 2nd, 2008 at 5:12 pm
I am flexible, has anyone heard from jacob on what works for him ?
July 2nd, 2008 at 5:20 pm
Dan, Joe, Jack, PWACT, Stone,
Looking at the comment chatter, … Saturday works. 7pm fellas.
Joe,
‘Normally, of course, such an uncouth suggestion would repel me;’
I am so happy to see you are less repellent than usual.
