Erica Garman spent the day wheeling around Sterling yesterday, read about it here.

Dude you need that Google Sterling blight map.
That way the press can keep up with the mess from their desks.

Yeah, I do love the idea, it is officially on my list.

My hat is off to Ms. Garman who spent a portion of her holiday weekend risking her personal safety to document why some Sterling families were unable to enjoy what should have been a tranquil 4th of July holiday in their own yards. In just a short visit, she was able to document a zoning violation (the four adults and child that approached as she took notes, plus the two cars in the driveway equals more than four unrelated adults, right?) and she was not even permitted to enter the residence to get an accurate head count. Why is it that since November, 2005 zoning has been unable to violate and penalize this property owner? Thank you Ms. Garman. If you ever decide to bag reporting for a career in zoning, please use this resident of Sterling as a reference.

We live in Cascades and just received our community association newsletter with a hilarious (but sad) letter to the Editor concerning the Sterling Park situation. I can’t believe this woman put her name to this letter (I did not list here) but I’d love some input on a rebuttal in the next issue.
Comments welcome:
Letter to the Editor
I was reading an article in the Washington Post
a couple of weeks ago about Sterling Park and the
issues arising from abandoned houses, i.e., tall grass,
rodents, trash, etc. There have been a couple of
houses in Cascades in the past year that have been
foreclosed on. One became very unkempt but, I pick
up any papers (Loudoun Times, etc.) left there and the
neighbor immediately adjacent to the property keeps
it mowed (bless his heart). I fi nd it hard to believe that
anyone living near one of these properties, instead of
complaining how bad it is, wouldn’t just get out his/
her lawnmower every once in a while and mow it, or
at least pick up debris and newspapers to make it look
tidier. These situations affect all of our homes and a
little effort and thought could make things a bit better
for everyone. I guess that complaining is easier than
actually doing something.

Boy I never considered that. Instead of complaining we could be tending the yards, painting their vehicles - providing space in our driveways to park those trucks would also be a nice gesture, so they don’t get ticketed - providing weekly trash service … and if the damned house seems overcrowded, we could open up OUR basements and guest rooms to help even out the load.

Misunderstaning a problem is one thing, flaunting your ignorance in public is quite another.
Perhaps G. Stone would like to craft a response, he can be very pointed!

Cathymac,
“Perhaps G. Stone would like to craft a response, he can be very pointed!”
Are speaking in relation to his finger, his gun or his head?
I might be out on a limb here but the female you are giving issue to seems to be;
an open borders person
a giving type person (as long as someone else is doing the giving)
lazy and ignorant (why didn’t she mow and filth follows delapidation)
an Osama-bama supporter
a liberal
probably a member of the LoCo BOS
Just a first impression mind you. Go get her Stone!

G. Stone has probably been called a couple pointy headed names before, but I was referring to his writing.
Wait till the poor lady gets blasted in the next Commununity Newsletter, she will be a mad Obama supporter. There is just so much to dispute that it could be an essay, but I like the sarcastic tone of Joe’s response.

Two out three ain’t bad, guns are to be aimed not pointed at a target.
