Washington Examiner Takes Loudoun County Govt To Task

July 7th, 2008 by joe

In an editorial titled, Ending Government Sponsored Blight, the Washington Examiner adds another outraged voice to the roiling controversy over the Loudoun County Department of Building and Development:

Loudoun County officials have for years looked the other way when confronted with glaring violations of their own zoning ordinances. Angry homeowners have now joined a growing list of Americans demanding strict enforcement of such laws…

Read it all.

Eastern Loudoun is finally getting some attention because the problems have piled up to the point they can no longer be glossed over. The upside is we - especially those of us in Sterling - finally have a voice the county will have to listen to. If you are fed up with the utter uselessness of our Zoning Administration Division, send an e-mail to County Administrator Kirby Bowers and copy the entire Board of Supervisors.

(Heck, copy the Easterner or the Independent while you are at it.)

As I alluded to my letter last week, the county could do a lot worse than to empty the entire Department of Building and Development and hire some of the folks from Herndon to come over and show us how to rebuild it into a functioning government agency.

Joe, this is all great, BUT until the current BOS stands by their campaign promises and does something about employers who knowingly hire illegal workers I think it may all be for nothing. Worst among them are McGimsey and Miller (that guy is quite the hard pill to swallow). Let’s put some heat on them to keep their word.

I want to find out more about the current Board, now that the heat of the election is safely past us.

Joe, you are a better guy then I.

I knew all I needed to know about Miller and McGimsey when they went back on their campain promise and voted to overturn any efforts to hold employees responsible. Burk, Burton and Kurtz never made those pomises so we knew what to expect from them. But Miller and McGimsey flat out broke their word on this issue.

    Loudoun Guy,

I believe that we have had several individuals contact those supervisors about their campaign promises and where they stand now without response. Although we are still trying to have dialog, when some of these supervisors are taken to task they tend to ignore you hoping you will just go away. I just wonder how long they can play that game before the citizens show up at the board meetings and demand resignations! Ignorance and avoidence is not a valid response.

Hopefully after the July 22 hearing, the BOS will understand clearly that there are problems that are not being resolved in eastern Loudoun. But, I won’t hold my breath.

Will the only recourse be for Sterling area residents to band together and file suit against the county for the blatant negligence of zoning enforcement ?

Loudoun Guy is right, esp about Miller! Where did this one come from and how soon can we get rid of him.

ACTivist, this is not the only issue Miller will not repond to. He won’t even speak with a few other groups who have requested a meeting with him. If he does not agree with the views of a citizen, he just ignores them.

Dan I had not thought of that option, hmmmm, just may work!

    Dan,
If you can find a lawyer that will take it class action-great. Just make sure that when we win, the county MUST pay for all legal fees. I can’t afford anymore money going out the door. My wife doesn’t believe we are being raped by the county in taxes and fees. Since she finds no evidence of substance abuse she has narrowed it to 900 calls or gambling.
