It is obvious that your opponent is making inroads when you start abandoning your campaign promises before the election.  In the past week Obama has reversed himself on several fronts.

The Military
Suddenly the military is not a hindrance to an American utopia.  Obama was on record saying he was going to slash tens of billions of dollars from the military budget.

His base called for even larger cuts in order to fulfill their pet projects, since defense is not a priority with Obama’s base. Now this position has been reversed.  Considering this is a time of war, those with an inkling of foreign policy acumen and historical perspective are nodding their heads and thinking ‘Yes, but that is obvious!’  Obama has recently let it be known that he wanted to join the military after high school.  Strange this comes up now.

Taxes
After promising to increase taxes on the rich, those who employ people, Obama is having seconds thoughts in this area of public policy as well.  It appears he is worried that tax increases might hurt the economy.

Democrat Barack Obama says he would delay rescinding President Bush’s tax cuts on wealthy Americans if he becomes the next president and the economy is in a recession, suggesting such an increase would further hurt the economy.

Those with an inkling of economic policy acumen are nodding their heads and thinking ‘Yes, but that is obvious!’  The question that immediately follows Obama’s statement is if increasing taxes hurt the economy, why ever increase taxes?

Abortion
Obama admits his answer regarding the murder of unborn children was ‘too flip‘.

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama acknowledged Sunday that he was probably too flip when he said it was “above my pay grade” to answer a question about when is a baby entitled to human rights.

Obama gave his answer last month at a nationally televised religious forum sponsored by minister Rick Warren at his megachurch in Orange County, Calif.

Those who care about unborn children are saying ‘Yes, but that is obvious!’

Energy
Obama’s campaign has changed its web-sight to reflect the addition of two new ideas.  The first is the addition of using the U.S. strategic petroleum reserve as a stopgap on prices, and to consider off shore drilling.

Obama’s new proposal, Raum wrote, “includes two significant reversals …

… of positions he has taken in the past: He had steadfastly fought the idea of limited new offshore drilling and was against tapping the nation’s emergency oil stockpile to relieve pump prices that have stubbornly hovered around $4 a gallon.”

The push for off shore drilling was started by the Republicans in the House of Representatives.  It’s good to see Obama now moving toward ‘drill, drill now‘. Those who have any expertise in this area are nodding their heads and thinking ‘Yes, but that is obvious!’
