November 2, 2000 – Reuters/MSNBC tracking poll: Gore leads Bush in Florida by 12%.
February 5, 2008 – Zogby: Obama leads Clinton in California by 13%.
October 30, 2008 – SurveyUSA: Obama leads McCain in Iowa by 15%. (Based on a sampling of 45% Democrat to 29% Republican! Science, don’t you know.)
Look, McCain’s going to lose. He deserves to lose. And then having reaped the full harvest that years of Republican Socialism sowed, we can begin to rebuild.
You are better than this, and this guy is not worth the effort you put into him.
If you are so SURE Obama will win, then why are you putting in so much effort to read these blogs? IMO its a good sign that people like you are trolling these sites! Nobama!
Not a troll. Hardcore conservative. Don’t mind seeing McCain — big bailout, and then let’s buy mortgages — go down.
Oh and I will neither forgive nor forget McCain on Campaign Deform or screwing us on conservative judges with Lindsey Graham, or cutting TV ads to “close the gun show loophole”.
I prefer Democrat Socialists, to Republican.
You and I can organized and mobilize against the Democrat Socialists … and that’s how we rebuild.
Chill, this is NOT the most important election of our lifetime … that was 1980, by far.
C’ya ya at the revolution. I just hope America survives.
Who’s going to lose ?
“One in seven, or 14 percent, can’t decide or back a candidate but might switch, according to an Associated Press-Yahoo News poll of likely voters released Friday.
Who are they? They look a lot like the voters who’ve already locked on to a candidate, though they’re more likely to be white and less likely to be liberal. And they disproportionately backed Hillary Rodham Clinton’s failed run for the Democratic nomination.”
You are wrong my friend. If Obama gets elected the stars are aligned for America to take one in the backside. The damage that be done in a mere 4 years by this cadre of leftists will take 50 years to un-do.
This will be the New Deal on steroids. Remember what these nit wits have going for them that FDR did not have, decades of history! Decades of incremental government expansion. This will be brass ring time for leftist. Will they over reach ? probably. However, they will not get rolled back until the damage is already done.
This whole I am too conservative to vote for McCain thing looks good on paper. However, when you are screaming at your TV 7 years from now after Obama and his Glitter twins Pelosi and Reid have taken another chunk out of the constitution and sent you an invoice for their efforts you may rethink your take on the election of 2008.
I know the hype is powerful right now. After years hating our right-wing guts, it’s the only way McCain gets good votes like yours and your work.
But here’s where I want to calm you down, and urge you off the ledge — losing will vastly improve Republican voting. Even the establishment, Tom Davis-liberals will vote against Democrat bigger government because … well, it’s Democrat.
Yeah, some bad sh*t will pass. Card-check Instant Unionizing probably being the worst. And it will (further) hurt the economy … and then, voters will retaliate (as they did in 1980) at the party in power.
Seriously, Dude, chill. And plan to get even with the Big Government Republican schleps (can you say, Bill Howell? and John Boehner?) that, along with GWB created this situation.
Not Russ: you should read Wolverine’s comment under the post Obama’s Counter to Joe the Plumber, and rethink letting our Country “fail”–we may not survive it to “rebuild” under your theory. We need someone like John McCain with the military and other experience to keep us safe.
Oh please, just stop.
This is NOT worse financially than the late 1970s (how old are you?) and Muslim terrorists plus whacked rogue states are not the threat the Soviet Communists were.
Obama in the oval office
Pelosi will own the house
and if Reid gets 60, it is all over.
They will tell Republicans , right, left and in the middle to pound sand. Under these circumstances Republicans can unite like never before and Pelosi will yawn.
Every once in a while the Blue Dogs might break ranks in an attempt to keep Pelosi honest. The remaining time Republicans will be told to sit down and shut up.
If you think GWB’s veto pen got us into this mess your would be partially right. The problem is Obama will not even own one. If Reid, Pelosi
Schumer and company want it, it will happen. That includes Judges that are aching to find the penumbras that will enable them to further guide our lives through the gates of Nirvana.
I had graduated from law school in the late 70′s if your comment was directed at me.
Why are you here?
I am here because I’ve devoted 20+ years to building and fighting for the conservative movement. And two years of one-party control is not the end of the Republic … and Bush et al (McCain especially) have pissed so hard on the Constitution that it isn’t credible to bash a Dem over their abuse.
Obama will win. The polls aren’t wrong. And the sun will still rise on Wednesday (unless the Lord returns, in which, I trust, you have no worry at all).
And the question then becomes, what shall we do.
And the answer better not be to rebuild the establishment, centerist, Big Government Republican party that just trashed the economy, massively increased government spending and ruined its own brand.
It better be go back to a REAL REAGAN REPUBLICAN PARTY.
I apologize for the age snipe. But you should recognize that this is no where near where we were in 1978-9.
Not Russ, this is not the 1970′s Carter Era economy, but look at everything our government has spent just so that we won’t go into a slight recession? After all the gloom and doom talk for the past 18 months – Sept was the first month of negative growth. Why are we artifically correcting/inflating markets?
I agree, the Republican Party needs to get back to it’s roots, but allowing our economy the normal ebss and flows is a necessity.
As for the threat of terrorists vs communists, it is a different threat but just as dangerous. Speaking of the economy, it is the biggest weapon the terrorists have – threatening ours. We won’t be able to outspend the new emerging threats, like the Russian threats right now, if the terrorist hit us in the wallet.
Until the terrorists get 1) dozens of nukes, 2) ICBMs with MIRVd warheads, 3) a place to build and shoot them from, they are qualitatively less a threat than the Soviet Communists. Right now, only Red China has all three (and I don’t know about the MIRVs).
Nuclear Iran will suck, but it’s Riyadh and Tel Aviv that they can hit … not New York.
We agree completely, the Bush-McCain-Frank-Obama bailout is pure Socialism and will make things worse (another bubble to be burst). Idiots.
Let’s let the Democrats at least earn the blame for Socialism, because we cannot win when it is Republicans who get and deserve it.
Not Russ — I fought that battle against the Soviets too. Today is a very different time with a very different enemy, a very different battlefield, no defined front line, no safe areas, no mutual deterrent, your front and your back in equal danger. Never once did I fear losing my life to a suicidal KGB agent. Never once did I imagine that Soviets would destroy something like the Twin Towers just to make a point. (I did, however, get more than a little smug at seeing the vaunted Red Army cash it in on the battlefield in Afghanistan.)
Beware, my friend, of making tactical comparisons between the enemies of the past and the enemies of the present. That can lead to some major misjudgements — sort of like the one the world made between the Kaiser and Adolph Hitler and, even before that, between the armies of revolutionary France and Napoleon Bonaparte. We have to focus on and adjust to fighting the battle in front of us, not rely on the historical accomplishments of the past. That, in fact, is one of the mistakes George Bush appears to have made in the immediate years after the fall of Baghdad. He didn’t adjust fast enough from the success of raw military power to the need for counterinsurgency and counterterrorist tactics. Thank God he eventually caught on.
“Until the terrorists get 1) dozens of nukes, 2) ICBMs with MIRVd warheads, 3) a place to build and shoot them from, they are qualitatively less a threat than the Soviet Communists.”
Did the Soviets ever knock down any of our buildings, killing several thousand innocents ?
The reason Reagan swept in was because of Jimmy Carter, who got us into a lot of trouble, gas rationing, long lines limited to every other day, 17 percent interest rates, terrorism in the middle east that we handled like naive fools, and the rest of the world laughed at us… but that was 30 years ago, and the world is a much more dangerous place–we cannot afford to experiment with the far left feel good, naive foreign policy now.
If you really are a Republican, than you need to vote for McCain, and we will have plenty of democrats in the congress to give us good examples of how screwed up it is in Washington to push for even more reform. John McCain for all his faults has fought things like ear marks, and I trust him to reign in our budget… by the way, Tom Davis is retiring…
The Soviets would have made New York glow if they thought the response would be our capitulation. They did murder tens of thousands of our neighbors in Nicaragua, Belize, Cuba and Chile (pre-Pinochet’s rescue). No need to mention the tens of millions in Europe, China and Russia nor the destruction they continue to reap in southern Africa, especially Zimbabwe.
The Muslim terrorists are a threat to Israel’s existance and the oil we are dependent on.
For the record, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan are about the only thing Bush did I support. And, as much as I despise the Admin, I think they get a bad rap on post-liberation Iraq. Can you imagine the outrage had they left the Saddamites in charge of the economy and infrastructure?
Last time, the world was MORE MORE MORE MORE dangerous in the late 70s. And the economy was worse because of Carter and the Dems. If that happens again due to Obama and the Dems, he and they will pay like Carter.
I don’t object to your voting for McLame, just to the hype that they (the campaign pros) are shilling and you, and other solid conservatives, are buying.
Not Russ, Without a thriving economy we can fight no war – economic or conventional. Coming back from an Obama Socialist Regime will make us economically weak and unable to confront any danger.
Please remember 9/11 and the hit we took. There were no bombs. The terrorists will not stop, their plans were always to hit our economy, and they succeeded. We are a different nation now, on the offense thanks to GWB.
The potential for the USA to become weak in the eyes of the terrorists is a reality with an Obama Administration. What we can can do from there is very, very scary.
I don’t know how or why you are going to vote, but I don’t appreciate anyone’s viewpoint that by going bacckwards we can come back stronger. We might not come back from this one, my friend. Don’t be a putz, we can fight McCain a lot easier than Obama/Reid/Pelosi and Socialism.
“The Soviets would have made New York glow if they thought the response would be our capitulation.”
The point is they didn’t, out of the fear of retaliation. There is no fear of MAD with terrorists.
You cannot fight McLame, any more than you could McBush (No Child, Medicare expansion, Bailout). ZERO traction.
It is NOT the end of the world when your opponents seize upon your parties’ failures and win an election.
The terrorists are massively weaker, and 9/11 did virtually ZERO damage to the overall economy. And we aren’t leaving Iraq or Afghanistan anytime soon, Obama or no.
The economic mess today is the Big Government establishment’s fault (both parties). You cannot inject massive amounts of electronic money into the system without it popping out somewhere. Due to global competition, it doesn’t come out in classic retail price inflation. Now, it comes out in commodity and investment bubbles (which the Bailout will encourage to recur).
Again, vote for McLame if you want but, please, climb down from the tizzy of worry. You’ll be needed next week, and next year. And unless Jesus comes first, America WILL still be here … and still better off than the rest of the not-really-so-”free” world … much less Red China or Russia.
Conservatives and Republicans needed a politicl recession for exactly the same reason the economy does.
Not Russ — Ever hear of a suitcase nuke? Tough technical choice, but they may be just around the corner…perhaps your corner. Forget those nations known to have nuclear weapons. You must realize that, in this modern world of ours, anything is for sale to the highest bidder. Even more dangerous in the hands of someone who, unlike the ordinary, run-of-the mill terrorist, does not care if he lives or dies in the act.
That is precisely what I meant by a change in the battlefield. Back in the day, most terrorists predicated operational targeting and the final green light on whether or not there was an adequate after-action escape route available to them. Today’s terrorists don’t give a crap about that. It makes them that much more dangerous to all of us.
I like your comment about Reagan. I worked for that guy for eight years. He knew when the time had come to unleash the dogs of war. What a difference I saw between him and the Carter and Clinton cabals.
Regards back to you, brother, from an old dog of war. Sadly to my state of mind, it is beginning to look like we may have no choice but to follow your recommendation to swallow the bullet and rebuild. I just hope we have enough time to do so. We can start by looking at the Congressional elections in 2010.
I agree completely that terrorists can and will hurt folks (suitcase nuke — very tough technology, but possible — dirty bomb — much easier, less lethal), maybe us but more probably some place softer and less, er, prickly (Old Europe, India).
2010. Bring it.
oh no you did not just say, “pre-Pinochet’s rescue”
Pinochet is a HERO … to anyone who genuinely loves freedom. But I won’t waste time trying to overcome the mountain of communist dung poured on him. And no, I don’t care they wiped out a couple of thousand Communist organizers and foreign agitators — many of whom “disappeared” simply because they went back where they came from.
not russ: save your “pep talk” for next week, if we need it. We will be here to rebuild, no matter what. I think reasonable people will see that Obama is too dangerous, and McCain will win. Right now, you need to make your decision, and that should be to vote for McCain…
tell that to the folks at ground zero..
nr, i think you’re thinking “Pinocchio”
but yes, he is a HERO to puppets the world over
Correction: Belize never had a Commie takeover. I meant Suriname. Sorry, a brain spasm.
Yeah, “less lethal” how else do you seriously make tactical decisions in foreign policy and war, sir?
OK, I gotta go. But I want to commend SPMM for having a sense of humor … and be willing to actually use it. THAT made me laugh.
ciao and …
I just don’t think anyone can trust the polls in this election. Consider all these things:
First black man to have a real shot at this.
First female GOP on a ticket
New voters (who knows where they will land)
Cell phones that can’t be polled
A divided country
The Powell factor
All of this and more leads me to believe that we don’t really have any idea what will happen on Tuesday and who will be the President Elect as of Wed. Morning. We just all have to wait, and vote.
Not Jeff W.
Finally a sane statement. Nobody knows what will happen, but ONE thing is certain:
This election is different than any earlier one, no matter what happens.
Not Russ Moulton .. you’d better get the bias outta your eyes.
McCain isn’t done by any means. It is still so damned close, nobody can accurately call this race. The evidence is going to be presented on Nov. 5th…or 6th.
So many tilts on this thing, the bookies are developing a migraine trying to figure the odds.
Bradley, The NE (NH and Maine leaning McCain- when’s the last time you remember that??)the Hillary factor, the polling push for O, the cell phone factor…
It’ll only be over when it’s over.
Drudge report (and Hannity) reporting McCain up by 1 (Zogby results out tomorrow). McCain will win.
And Drudge Report also shows Washington Post profits plunge 86% in third quarter… everyone should cancel their subscriptions, and tell the editors how you feel about their biased reporting…
sally, Yes I saw this on H&C tonight. Did you see Dick Morris comment on his belief that younger voters are moving toward McCain ? He cited possible concern over their wealth being spread around.
Btw, GOPTrust is hitting the airwaves with 6 million in advertising this weekend in battleground states.
Don’t know where to post this, but watch it and get your blood pumping this Saturday morning and fight for McCain/Palin:
I look forward to your posts! Thank you!
