My Congratulations and My Prayers

I, too, would like to congratulate Obama and his campaign, and also the newly elected congressional Democrats,  especially our own Senator-elect Warner, and Congressmen-elect Nye and Connolly.   I would particularly hope that Senators Webb and Warner work closely with Glenn Nye, who is an Iraq War veteran and highly intelligent.

These will be difficult years ahead.  Our enemies will not be our friends overnight.  The reasons they hate us will not go away with this election, and our leaders need all of our prayers.

My new bumper sticker: HOPE I have some CHANGE left over.

  2. zimzo says:

Who would have thought that Jack would be the one person on this blog to be decent and gracious?

  3. Cathymac says:

Zimzo, Is your job “Chief Election Results Opinion Analyst?”

Move over Joe, Jacob, Jack – Zimzo has the final say as to whether YOUR comments on the election are appropriate.

  4. sally says:

Moving forward, in California, Arizona, Arkansas and Florida, gay marriage was banned as State Constitutional Amendments–and in Arkansas, unmarried couples are not allowed to adopt children, basically disallowing gay couples to adopt… so the “conservative” issues are alive, we just need to work on fiscal and economic conservatism–Cut the budget, cut earmark waste, cut taxes, and no new taxes…and keep our national defense strong, and push on energy independence…

  5. Cathymac says:

It is the coupling of conservative issues on state ballots, with conservative candidates for state and local offices, that will help us in the future. Well, if we do it, that is.

  6. sally says:

“Gird Your Loins!” We need to rebuild our base…and reach out from there…

  7. dans says:

“We need to rebuild our base”

Nyet. The first thing that needs to be done is to DEFINE the GOP. If you look at this election, from the GOP we got messages about Ayers, Wright, Taxes, Obama is a Muslim, Obama is not a natural born citizen, Obama is a socialist and McCain is a maverick.

From Obama we got a simple ‘four more years of Bush policies’.

The clear, concise message wins, every time.

  8. zimzo says:

Go back to vilifying gays. That will help you regain power.

  9. G. Stone says:

President Elect Obama , congrats. Be well and lead well.

    Zimzo, go pound sand well.

  10. jack says:

Considering that Prop 8 passed in California, you may be right, zimzo.

  11. jacob says:

Gee, people who voted for Obama voted against redefining marriage. Come to think of it, Obama is against redefining marriage as well. hmmmmm, maybe there is hope for ‘that one’ after all

  12. G. Stone says:

    “Gird Your Loins!”
I bet your pardon ! My loins are fine the way they are, thank you very much.

  13. Sweet Pea says:

Our enemies should still be scared because Pres. Obama still has Gen. Powell behind him and he was the hero of the Iraq War! No need to worry, Jack. You are in much more capable hands now!

  14. ACTivist says:

Let’s see. A socialistic thug is “elected” (jury still out on that one) president, a Democrat Congress that can only hold a single digit approval rating gains 6 seats and anti-homosexual marraige bills are passed. I guess I will have to live with 1 out of 3. Jonathan has to think twice about Va. It might have turned a slight shade of purple but never pink.

  15. ACTivist says:

    Sweet P,

“Pres. Obama still has Gen. Powell behind him..”

That’s the way I kinda saw it also. Hope he is able to extract his head before he sufficates!

  16. Moon says:

zimzo, The gay community should be very glad to have a friend like you to stand up for them, not very many are willing to do this. Very cool to see a risky urban male here, unafraid to try new experiences.

  17. Wolverine says:

I actually thought that, after the results of the election were in, everyone on this blog might down dictionaries for awhile and take a deep breath. Was I ever wrong. This blog is like a football game with a running clock. Let me congratulate you all, from the Left to the Right. You have stamina and you never give up…good traits in any battle. If everybody here could ever agree on anything, you could collectively beat the crap out of any enemy just through staying power alone. (Come to think of it, isn’t that what happened in World War II?)

  18. Stay Puft Marshmallow Man says:

    true Americans ;)

repubs: however you go about redefining the party, last night suggests you’ll need more than tax cuts. It’ll be interesting. I don’t think it would ever become a regional party, it’s just a question of which direction it’ll go. Hopefully away from Alaska, which is about to give this election cycle another first: first convicted felon elected to the senate! (could he even vote for himself?)

also, just for the record, since for the past three weeks, everyone was going on about how inaccurate the polls were, and they were liberal propaganda and everything, can I just point out that fivethirtyeight.com predicted every state correctly except for Indiana, which it said was going to go red!!

  19. zimzo says:

Don’t hold your breath, Puffy, about anyone on this site admitting they were wrong about anything. I’m still waiting for Joe to admit he was suckered by the African Press International hoax and Jacob never apologized for peddling the ridiculous birth certificate forgery story.

  20. jacob says:

    zimzo,
yeah we all should do just like you do and admit when we are wrong. Which you have done precisely ZERO times in the past three years. Hypocrite.

  21. yvonne says:

You repubs are asking US to admit We are wrong? You are wrong on everything! You hear that. Everything. From Medical insurance to Iraq, to energy, education. Name one issue on which you are right.

  22. zimzo says:

When have I been wrong? You were clearly wrong peddling that ridiculous birth certificate story and Joe was falling for that hoax. If you can point out some instance where I have been wrong I’ll admit it. I can’t think of one.

  23. Had Enough says:

“clearly wrong peddling that ridiculous birth certificate story”

It is not over yet. One case has been filed with the Supreme Court. The defendants (Obama) is required to respond to the Writ of Certiorari by December first.

And there is a case pending in Hawaii, since it is jurisdictional it may be the one to follow. A hearing date has been set in a few weeks.

Whether you think it is ridiculous or not, you should be concerned that Obama and the DNC have made every effort to conceal every document that pertains to his life and education.

The man won the election, we have a right to know the circumstances surrounding his birthplace, education and citizenship.

  24. Wolverine says:

What is it you want, Yvonne? A firing squad? Drawing-and-quartering? The iron maiden? Thumbscrews? Burning at the stake? Isn’t winning an election enough for you? Don’t you realize that your rantings give more and more conviction to the other side that they were right all along about the intelligence of many Obama supporters? Your man won at the polls. Stop embarrassing him!

  25. Jack says:

If Jacob were wrong about the birth certificate, why did the Hawaii judge rule that Hawaii did not have to release it? If Jacob were wrong, the judge would have simply ruled that the certificate had already been released.

  26. Dweezil says:

You neoconmen need to get over it. Obama won. Who cares where he was born? That’s so last century. We are citizens of the world whether you like it or not.

  27. sally says:

dweezil (what a perfect name) the dems have no honor, that is the difference. Here is an example–they opposed mining credit card information by the Bush admin to fight terrorism, but they have no problem doing it themselves for partisan reasons to find donors and win elections…

    http://www.businessandmedia.org/articles/2008/20081105172719.aspx

  28. yvonne says:

    zimzo,
you are not wrong. these racists just can’t be right. they did not vote for Obama and they through mud at him and call him names. It is all just a cover for the fact that they would never vote for any black man or woman.

  29. yvonne says:

    wolverine,
what is that? a badger with an attitude? I want to see Chaney and Bush doing the perp walk. Let them spend time in that torture chamber down in Guantanamo. The should be brought up on charges for the patriot act.

  30. sally says:

yvonne, you can’t even spell Cheney’s name correctly–all you know is the spin.

There has been a 8 year concerted attempt to demonize Bush Cheney, and to ignore all the good they have done to keep us safe. One of the biggest mistakes of Bush was that he reached across the isle too many times to compromise, and it is the compromise and interference with free markets that has done us in… trying to work with the democratic initiatives got him in trouble, and he took all the blame…the next four years will be interesting. NO ONE to blame for their bankrupting spend and borrow ideas…and naive foreign policy.

How about those evil Democrats who were ordered to snoop on Joe the Plumber–where is the outrage at the invasion of his privacy? where is the outrage at his civil rights being simply trampled for partisan purposes? If this had happened to a terrorist, the press would have been all over it… but it happened to a regular citizen who opposed Obama…And how about mining credit card data for partisan purposes, when the Dems have attacked and attacked on the impropriety of doing this to fight terrorism… the Dems in control of the party have no honor, will pander to anyone, and they just lie…

somethings got to change–we will be watching!

  31. yvonne says:

    sally,
is that all you got? a spelling lesson? you are one lame apologist for the Bushies. maybe if the schools I went to where not crumbling around my feet i would have learned to spell the name of that criminal correctly.

Bush has the government already watching. They are listening in on the phone calls of American citizen with no warrant. Are going to defend that now with grammar lesson? Those two need some time in handcuffs. The whole world hates us.

  32. Dweezil says:

I’ll bet W is used to handcuffs already — Laura uses then on him!

“but in town it was well known when they went home at night their fat and sycopathic wives would thrash them within inches of there lives”

    hahahaha!!

  33. Wolverine says:

Yvonne, Al Qaeda just absolutely loves the likes of you. You are free meat just for the taking. Your mindset is so seared with rabid and misdirected hate that you will never even see them coming.

  34. Moon says:

Invasion of Joe the plumbers privacy, let me see now, is checking public records the invasion of someone’s privacy ? If they were poking around in his undies drawer, yes, that is invasion of privacy. Especially if they found Victoria’s Secret (giggle).

Wolverine, water boarding Bush and Chaney would be okey-dokey with me. Not Condi though, her hair is too good.

  35. Wolverine says:

Ah, Moon, the smugness of it all. The mockery. The casual dismissals. The political venom. You and Yvonne…a pair of potential victims without the good sense to realize that you are by definition among the targets of terrorists who would not hesitate a nanosecond to cut your throats just to make the eleven o’clock news.

This is not the first time I’ve encountered the likes of you. It made me wonder sometimes during all those long years why I even bothered to do it, why that small counterterrorist “band of brothers” with which I worked would even take the risks involved, especially when, in our day, there was no availability of tools such as the Patriot Act and the NSA intercept program. I sometimes think back to how many more lives might have been saved if those tools had been in our hands long before Bush had the wisdom to provide them. How often I envy those who have followed us, envy them for their successes where we often only knew frustration and heartbreak and sometimes helpless rage.

Despite our tactical handicaps, we continued in our time to slug it out with the bloodthirsty fiends as best we could, very conscious that, in so doing, we were helping to save the lives of fellow Americans with handles like Joe and Jacob and Brian and Sally and Cathymac and Zimzo and Stay Puft…and even Moon and Yvonne and Dweezil.

One of the hardest and saddest parts of that experience was when some people did not help us to save their own lives by listening to reason. I remember this guy who was a prime target and who was warned many times to take protective measures. He was a good guy but he let down his guard once too often. The bomb was so powerful that it took his head off instantly and blew the rest of his body through the sidevent window frame of his disintegrating car. There was not much left of him to recognize. And us? Our task was to track down the bastards who had done it to him…on their own turf no less.

Listen up, Moon. Listen up, Yvonne. This is not political. This is the real world. If you and yours want to continue to be safe in this real world, you had better be damn careful about how you view and deal with those assigned to protect your lives at the risk of their own. You try to punish them for their past efforts on your behalf, you try to handcuff them in the face of enemies as dedicated as those we now face, and it may be what’s left of you that they will wind up having to scrape off the street and put into a small box.

Get off your political soapboxes and start realizing that you are among those who could be walking in the path of danger, especially if you dismiss from your presence those whose sworn mission it has been, and still is, to keep you alive.

  36. Dweezil says:

There’s the Bushies fear mongering again.

  37. Wolverine says:

Just for you, Dweezil, I might have been tempted to turn my back and walk away. But no, we were dedicated to protecting you just like all the rest of our fellow Americans. If you are a prime example of an Obama supporter and not just some clueless kid with access to a laptop, Heaven help us all!

  38. Dweezil says:

    Heaven already sent us Obama!

And to you think the neoconmen in the Senate will have the balls to filibuster? And just think of all those empty federal judgeships that the Senate has been holding open for PRESIDNET Obama to fill. You can kiss you precious 2nd amendment goodbye!

Haha!! This is a great day!

  39. Wolverine says:

That answers it: clueless kid with access to a laptop. Yvonne was very right on one thing: the schools are indeed falling apart.

  40. ACTivist, says:

    Wolverine,

No matter how much money you throw at schools, if the kids don’t want to push themselves and learn-they won’t. The kids today are spoiled because some parents just don’t have the time or inclination to spoil the rod. This is surely a case where corporal punishment was spared for the wrong reasons. Zappa’s family should have been nutered long ago. These kids have parents that belong to the “Great Society” (another Democrat disaster).

  41. Dweezil says:

    yeah, yeah, blame the victim.

  42. sally says:

My suggestion is just to ignore these troll kids. They are here to antagonize and not to discuss.

  43. Jack says:

Holy crap. I go to a meeting and the moon-bats come out to play.

  44. ACTivist says:

Oh, Jack. You don’t know the half of it. I went away and came back and it got more stupid. Basking in their glorytimes I guess.

  45. Kevin says:

“Ah, Moon, the smugness of it all. The mockery. The casual dismissals. The political venom. You and Yvonne…a pair of potential victims”

Or are they really. . .J. Budzinski?

    Think about it.

  46. ACTivist says:

    Kiddin’

Some of those commenting here use that style language. What you need to remember is your accusation of old-we are all Joe. Hey, it’s your conspiracy theory!

  47. Kevin says:

Only Joe could come up with Moon wanting to sit on Obama’s face. I mean, that’s classic Joe. And renting out Martin’s West to watch YouTube vids? Hilarious!

But you’re right, I know you are not J-Bomb. That doesn’t take a genius to figure out!

  48. ACTivist says:

Wounded again. Please try to remember my sensativity factor.

  49. Kevin says:

Oh no! That wasn’t an attempt to wound, ACTor. I’ll trie to be more sensative in the future. I thought we were all having a bit of fun!
