Michael Crichton: Aliens cause global warming

December 5th, 2008 by joe

This was pretty controversial in 2003, within a couple years I think it will be the new consensus opinion:

Let’s be clear: the work of science has nothing whatever to do with consensus. Consensus is the business of politics. Science, on the contrary, requires only one investigator who happens to be right, which means that he or she has results that are verifiable by reference to the real world. In science consensus is irrelevant. What is relevant is reproducible results. The greatest scientists in history are great precisely because they broke with the consensus.

There is no such thing as consensus science. If it’s consensus, it isn’t science. If it’s science, it isn’t consensus. Period.

In addition, let me remind you that the track record of the consensus is nothing to be proud of. Let’s review a few cases…

As with everything by Crichton (RIP) well worth reading in its entirety.

The EPA proposes taxing cows, pigs and horses ($175 per head per year) because they emit gasses that pollute the air:

Farmers protest and say it will bankrupt them While we are dissing all rural economy uses, banning septic in the West, and slamming the Redskins and our EDC, why not the farmers too?” A “green” revenue for Loudoun?

It must be aliens — NASA has found global warming on Mars and on Jovian satellites. Since it cannot be natural, it must be extraterrestrials.
