China Goes To Bat For The Civilized World
It’s about time they did something. The Chinese are sending ships to patrol off the Horn of Africa, in an attempt to quell the pirate shenanigans.
My initial reaction is, this will not be a good time to be a pirate. I think pirates are actually a delicacy in China.

I’m surprised. Their usual response has been to go in and build a new soccer stadium to create goodwill, harvest supportive UN votes, and help the local government to keep the neer-do-wells busy with more innocent endeavors. Hello, China! Welcome to the real world! Modern Somalia baffles us all!
I think a real opportunity is being missed here, one I’d certainly take advantage of were I in the necessary income bracket.

I am still amazed that the shipping companies haven’t done more to arm their ships. These aren’t exactly guided missile frigates that are attacking them. Blackwater should be making a fortune – a few well armed ex-SEALS per ship could repel most of these attacks.
I don’t expect the Chinese to be as patient with these as we have with these criminals. The Chinese speak their language: ruthlessness

Great point abut Blackwater – if the shipping companies or their clients are willing to fork over millions in ransoms, why not just hire protection from the get go? Something about this whole phenomenon just does not make sense to me. Maybe in 1965 it would have made sense, but not today.
Don’t we still owe Somalia something that a bonehead liberal screwed up? I better not get started on this issue. I will say that the Chinese have every right to bomb Somalia out of existence for the simple reason Somalia has reniged on its trade debt with China. If I was China, I would drop cases of those fancy little cocltail umbrellas….attached to cluster bombs. I think THAT would give pause to the pirates.
