They have a bunch of nice choices, right now. AK variants in .223 and 7.62×39, a lovely Yugo SKS, and small group of others.
If you have been shopping or window shopping lately, you know that this is quite the Christmas gift because most of the cupboards are bare. Don’t delay.
Gun….college. Gun….college. I am at such a quandry.
The cupboards of many charities are also running low -
of food, that is.
Was up at Gander Mountain in Winchester, they had a couple of black rifles on the rack for $799.
S&W Sigma for $299, can’t recall if 9 or .40..
10% of those two prices would help put some canned food in charity cupboards.
Lovisa, that is why it’s important to do both
That is why conservatives tend to give more money, time, and blood than liberals do. Liberals think it is the government’s job, conservatives think it is the people’s job.
jack, where’s your support for the statement that repubs give more than liberals? or, is it up to someone to prove that your abusrd claims are wrong?
I think there was a survey done on this last year showing conservatives give more charitable contributions than liberal. But I think liberal Republicans give the most of all.
Oh, here ya go, it was in Saturday’s New York Times:
“Arthur Brooks, the author of a book on donors to charity, “Who Really Cares,” cites data that households headed by conservatives give 30 percent more to charity than households headed by liberals. A study by Google found an even greater disproportion: average annual contributions reported by conservatives were almost double those of liberals.”

Lovisa ASSumes if you are spending money on X, Y suffers. People can actually buy stuff (GUNS!) and give to charity – in the same day even – hey, how ’bout that?
Personally I have lost count of how many pantry raids we have done (no, not panty, pantry) for food pantries this season. If you are involved in schools, scouts, church or any org – this time of year is rich with opportunity.
I think John Lott has also done studies on Conservative vs Liberal charitable giving, strangely enough his break out book was “More Guns, Less Crime” – the link may be that gun owners in particular are extremly charitable!
Classic libtard thinking. The pie is of a fixed size, every nickle that goes to buy a gun is one less nickle to give to the poor.
Interesting article … if you follow the link to his blog, he says that conservatives also have been found to donate more in the way of time, not just money, to charitable organizations. Doesn’t surprise me at all.
Don’t start reading the comments, though, unless you want your blood to boil … what a bunch of misinformed elitists! Of course, they’re on the defensive here, so I guess it brings out the ugly in them.
I am not surprised by the article, but I am surprised by the comments. To all those on the left side of the political divide, giving to a political cause is not charity. As for ‘Conservatives giving to ‘pet’ causes etc, etc, and all the other blarney, do you know this for fact or are you blowing smoke because it does not reflect well upon you chosen peers?
The difference in behavior is due to the fact that the philosophies are opposite: personal responsibility v. not being personally responsible (for whatever reason).
Some of the comments centered on conservatives bleating about taxes, being lazy but rich etc. This endemic ad hominem attack is intellectual laziness writ large. If you do not like the statistics, if they offend you — do not dismiss by attacking the character of those who do give. Stick a crowbar in your collectivist leftwing wallets and give some percentage of you income to a charity, not a political cause. Or, give some time to a local charity.

Lovisa,
My son and I gave up two Saturdays to assist with the Boy Scout Food Drive. This weekend, my wife and son went to a couple of churches Sat to help dispense groceries to the needy. My yearly charitable donations normally amount to $300-$500.
I am curious what you and your family did to help the needy this year that permits you to be so critical of others.
Seems like most liberals SHOULD be ashamed. No wonder the vitriol – this really shines a glaring light on the hypocrisy and that’s never a comfortable thing.
Dans — Thanks for helping with the Boy Scouts! Our Den did the same thing and is it really great to see the kids running through the neighborhoods and getting a huge grin when they deliver their bounty – good stuff!
Joe, life’s experiences have taught me that the ones that are the most critical discussing a problem are very likely the one’s that contribute the least. Do as I say, not as I do… Like sending $20 to the Sierra Club makes one an environmentalist..
Cmac, Every year I am amazed at the extent of this operation, and however many times I am involved with this, my jaw still hits the floor when I see the amount of food collected. What was also an awakening, only 10-15% of homes donate food. But those that do give, give much.
Lovisa hasn’t replied, maybe she is traveling abroad today, as per her previous posts, she seems to travel a fair bit. Makes one wonder how much food for the needy 10% of an overseas trip could buy doesn’t it ?
Dan, This was the first year my husband went to the collection center, last year he just collected with the Den. Our little guy is a Wolf and we just took over the Den – never pictured myself as a Den mother but the little guys crack me up.
I can’t remember the totals for our Pack/regional unit but it was staggering. And yes, some people put out 2-3 bags or a large box of goods – it was wonderful!
Another fun activity we help out with :
http://www.civilwar.org/parkday/
This event is held every year, and is a fun and rewarding family day in the outdoors. Gives us a chance to give back, and build a connection to some of our favorite historical places.
That is a great opportunity – thanks Dan. I bookmarked it and will put in our possibilities for April. I am just trying to get through the derby and blue and gold dinner in February, somehow I got volunteered for both!
