Troll, yes, but for me, I won't drink Perrier with MTBE either.

With what we know today, it is believed it to be fairly benign by some. But, when you say fairly benign, are you comparatively speaking ? Compared to Benzene, PCBs, PCE, or TCE, yes, it is fairly benign. Compared to pure water, it is a toxin.

Was MTBE adequately tested for chronic or acute toxic effects before being approved for use ? I believe the answer is no.

What did The Collegium Ramazzini say about MTBE ?

"Yeah, they said that about cigarettes too. MTBE definitely should not be in our ground water"

dans,

No, it shouldnot be in our water (I have made a career out of taking it OUT of our water so I certainly agree. But as groundwater contaminants go, it is fairly benign. The EPA recommended MCL is based not on toxicological issues but on a nuisance taste/odor threshold. I'll take MTBE over say TCE, PCE, of Benzene anyday. The problem with it is its mobility not its health effects.

jack, think Fontaine is trying to discuss syzygy of the Earth, Sun, and Moon, and a link to earthquakes and tremors.

OK, I was unclear. The sun's gravity is stronger than the moon's. However, the sun's attraction is relatively constant throughout the earth. Because the moon is closer, it is much closer to one side of the earth than to the other. This causes tides. (Tides occur in the land, too, and in the core.) Tidal stresses from the moon are far more intense than anything caused by the sun.

Para 1 Post 13: Damn!! Just like a politician. Never keeps his promises.

I give that TV show one shot. It'll probably lose in the ratings to Lyndon LaRouche reruns. Might not even get all the way through one broadcast if the BF vulgarities start surfacing.

Fontaine,

"which one year later, the planet could be close enough to meeting that condition to cause it to happen."

How much closer to the Sun would the Earth need to be for the Sun's gravity to cause this condition ? Would we not fry first ? Think we would have remembered that more than an earthquake.

Jack, While it is true it is the moon is responsible for tides, it is the Sun that keeps the Earth in orbit.

No -- the sun's gravity is insignificant relative to the moon's, and therefore cannot be responsible for triggering an earthquake.

Is that clear enough for you?

"as had usually happened in the past after a major earthquake that resulted from a drought ending,"

having a little afternoon nip are we.

Answer the question. I think your evasive maneuvering says yes, the sun could have triggered a stressed plate to react that was already waiting to snap when just the right forces were applied to it, which one year later, the planet could be close enough to meeting that condition to cause it to happen.

Based on other evidence of it happening before, it cannot be dismissed out of hand but should be investigated seriously, not to validate my conspiracy theory but to learn about how to set up a computer model that can predict where and when other earthquakes will happen in the future.

One thing is sure, science cannot cross the line into my story without opening up a can of worms. It would be better for them to open up with my help and for Bush to do the honors but neither he nor the DOJ is known anymore for making the right choices.

Sorry, I meant 2004. So what, are you a lawyer or do you have a point to make?

But for whatever reason, as I said in my article how I’ve seen it happen once before, it isn’t realized when it should have been but happens one year to the day later. I have documented proof that I predicted the tsunami on December 26, 2006 in January of 2003, about why I thought it would happen when and where it did.

That's FOUR years, not one.

"I never said the sun or the moon caused the quake."

Yes, you did:

When the Iran quake was not followed with another earthquake of sizable proportions 9 to 12 days later around the equator, as had usually happened in the past after a major earthquake that resulted from a drought ending, I made a prediction that it would come a year to the day later because I’d seen it happen once before. It has to do with a hair-trigger on a fault line that fails to snap when it should have but reawakens when the same gravitational forces from the sun and moon return a year later. It has to do with when the earth’s solid inner iron core that floats in an ocean of molten iron is pulled towards a weakness in the outer crust by gravity causing it to move.

Do you even read what you write?

I never said the sun or the moon caused the quake. There you go proving my point for me again. Of course the sun and moon can’t cause earthquakes. I wrote that prolonged drought followed by rains that refill groundwater tables back to normal trigger a stress factor that built up slowly over time as billions of tons groundwater evaporates. And I’m not the only one saying this. There are many seismologists looking at the same kind of theory although having reached their conclusions from a different perspective than I have.

What I’m saying is that there was a stress built up that all but snaps when all the necessary ingredients are there to make it do so. But for whatever reason, as I said in my article how I’ve seen it happen once before, it isn't realized when it should have been but happens one year to the day later. I have documented proof that I predicted the tsunami on December 26, 2006 in January of 2003, about why I thought it would happen when and where it did. Everything I claim in that article not only happened the way I say it did, I have evidence from the best minds in the world that support it. And there is much more I haven't told you.

The question is why you want nothing to do with the truth, with facts that are not based in your ideology. You are a cult, that is the only way it can be looked at. Your conservative movement has turned into a cult with Limbaugh as your Sun Yung Moon where you need to be deprogrammed in order to be able to rehabilitate yourselves back to reality. Oh man, no shit, that is why you call Obama “the messiah”or “the chosen one,” because it is as if he thinks he can take the place of Rush, "the one and only all mighty Rushbo." Oh man, you people are mixed up.
Fontaine,

The Sun's gravitational attraction is relatively insignificant compared to the Moon's. That's why the tides follow the Moon, not the Sun. No, the Sun did not cause the earthquake, and the calculations (basic arithmetic, really), were no trouble at all. Nevertheless, taking time to refute an argument does not lend credence to the refuted argument.
