100 Minutes and Counting
Well, Obama is now our President. I voted against him. There was no way that I would vote for McCain. Obama’s first two acts were to order the freeing of the terrorists, and to fund the killing of foreign children through abortion. Neither of which are working out to be popular with the American public. We voted him in. Considering his campaign rhetoric regarding the first act and his track record on the second, no one should have been surprised.
So, This is Hope?
At least he told Pelosi to stuff her absurd $200M infertility plan. Her statement portraying children as an social economic burden is a Malthusian myth… Malthus said so. Instead we got a $300M STD prevention package. Brilliant!! Overall, the Obama economic team could be far more partisan and ideological (Rahm-bo notwithstanding). The Whitehouse is making noises that it does not support the $900B Pelosi-Obey boondoggle. So a ray of hope is present in the darkness, and a tree grows in Brooklyn too.
The End of Corruption
The Obama team has had two members lost and another sullied due to tax cheating. This is the new era of a open and ethical government? Then there is the governor of NM, who was canned because he is under indictment for selling government contracts in return for campaign funds. Glad to see that team Obama has a keen eye for an honest face.
Obama promised to raise the bar on ethical government. Considering he is a creature of the Democrat Chicago Politcial machine, I am surprised the country did not collectively roll on the floor laughing. But as Obama is The One, we were in a collective rapture; OK, some 53% where in enrapured. The rest were skeptical, to put it mildly. Washington is a corrupt place, while it will be nice to see that it won’t have an appreciable effect on Obama, the cost to the country could be tremendous. The irony won’t pay the bill.
Foreign Policy
The new President’s first interview was with an Arabian paper and in it he is openly critical of the U.S. I am sure this does not bother his supporters, they are also of the Blame America First crowd. His first foreign trip will be to a Muslim nation. Considering he is now touting his living in Indonesia — one can only wonder where is he going with this new focus.
He has sent an open letter to the Iranians, it is not addressed to Ahmenijad, so it might be Obama is trying to talk past him. The letter seeks to heal the rift, which is fine assuming the other side is seeking reconciliation as opposed to revenge. A rousing round of Kum-bay-yah please; in the world of the liberals… that’s all it takes. I will take no pleasure in telling those who support this hippie-esque style of foreign policy that an Iranian bomb is a disaster — even they will see that after it detonates in some urban area. The irony won’t pay the bill.
Economic Policy
Obama feels government is the answer, Reagan said it was the problem. Reagan inherited a bigger economic mess than Obama has. Higher inflation and higher unemployment than now, plus we were stuck in a lethal Keynsian stagflation mode. It got worse before it got better. Then we experienced 96 straight months of economic growth. Lets see what happens in America under The One.
The next step in his grand scheme is to come up with a revamped tax code. One where a majority of Americans pay NO income tax. Those that pay NO income tax will receive an income tax rebate. Call me picky, but I see something wrong there. Given that the majority will pay no income tax, and will receive a wealth-redistribution check, why should they care how high the rates are as they will be on the receiving end of this largess? So dies the protestant work ethic in America… with a whimper.
The question is, how fast will the coming house of cards fall? With China and India moving rapidly toward more capitalist economies, the productivity advantage of the American work force is diminishing globally. With Europe beginning a lurch away from socialism, how much faster will the pressure rise to step away from these ‘fair-minded’ policies? I will take no pleasure in telling the supporters of this Neo-Keynesian economics, “I told you so!” The cost to our nation will be too high. The irony won’t pay the bill.
