If Kaine decides to prevent this from going forward, I am going to be really upset. This thing has been put off for too long.

Amen NR.
Peace to the family of Sgt. Ricky Timbrook.
I agree! For some reason Kaine has a track record of allowing executions. That is really inconsistent with his party’s politics.
I feel bad for the policeman’s son that he never got to know his father – that just stinks!
Very few things can shake you up more than a radio call that says: “Officer down!!” My personal and grieving thanks to Mrs. Timbrook and family for having allowed us the privilege and honor of being protected by her husband. Without the courage of the likes of him and his comrades, we would be truly lost.
Kaine is totally against executions, he said a number of times that although he was against executions for any reason that they were the law and he as governor must follow the law and carry it out.
If a bill ever passes by his desk to change that law, it executions will be history fast.
He did stall a execution while that case was being heard about inhumane treatment or something like that but the court said the constitution did not guarantee you no pain.
Kaine stalled this execution, waiting on a decision on lethal injection. This execution was supposed to take place last summer.
Our justice system is slow in doing anything. We take forever to make docket and appeals are too numerous to comprehend. Although I believe that all avenues must be exhausted first to give chance to the few that are truly INNOCENT, things can be sped up greatly. People need to think about the consequences long before they commit the act. Like the old saying goes, “if you can don’t do the time, don’t do the crime”. I’m just thankful that Va. doesn’t keep these people around too long so that they may get commuted sentences. I know too many “good guy” victims and the perps end up skating on murder. That just isn’t right.
I can’t help but wonder if the governor stalled this one in the past specifically to spite the widow of SGT Timbrook, who campaigned against him.
NR, One would hope not but we will never know.
The execution went through, better late than never.
Mumia Abdul Jamal is still enjoying his celebrity after shooting and killing Philadeplphia Police Officer Daniel Faulkner in 1981.
Correction, Mumia Abu-Jamal.
“She questioned whether Kaine, a Roman Catholic who is opposed to the death penalty, would uphold Bell’s sentence.”
Well it is against his religion but he upheld the law and did what the law proscribed.
Do you all think that people should be forced to do things against their religion even though not doing so might mean losing their job or be against the law?
Rhetorical question is all…
Troll, let me tell you something about this because I am Catholic and I support the death penalty.
The Catholic Church discourages the death penalty, but does not strictly forbid it (Paragraph 2267, Catechism of the Catholic Church).
Also, our Governor has a tendency to hide behind his religion only when it is politically convenient. Note his stance on abortion, which IS strictly forbidden by the Catholic Church (Paragraph 2271)
