You state that Obama was “shuttling” between New York, Jakarta, and Karachi. Do we have any proof of this “shuttling”? To shuttle, I believe, means to go back and forth frequently.

It would be interesting to know how many times and within which time frame this supposed “shuttling” took place.

His mother gave up here American citizenship and
remained in Indonesia where she became a citizen of that country. Upon doing so she than could have applied for an Indonesian passport for herself and her son.

In 1981, Obama visits his mother and half-sister in Indonesia, and then continues on for three weeks to Karachi, Pakistan and Hyderabad, India, with his friends Chandoo and Hamid, and finally to Kenya to visit his father’s family. Obama’s mother had returned to Hawaii in 1980 to file for divorce from Lolo Soetoro; it is unclear whether she was actually in Indonesia at the time of Obama’s 1981 visit or a fabricated reason.

Ironic how BHO continually cried about his poor upbringing. On the campaign trail the visit to Pakistan was a big slip up when he was attempting to gloat about his world travels, his staff was not even aware of any Pakistan visit and days later made excuses for. The press ignored this trip just as they ignored everything else negative about him.

It is also alleged that he attended a very high dollar prep school in Hawaii.

Not only did the State department warn citizens not to attempt to go there, but Pakistan was under marshal law and forbid any Americans to enter.

Also interesting is that all of his roommates in college were Muslim foreign students, it has been said that Barry Soetoro may have been documented as a foreign student receiving foreign student aid.

For several years BHO’s attorney’s have fought the release of any records or documents pertaining to this Usurper, gee….I wonder why?

I have not been one to get involved in this argument over whether or not Obama is truly a native-born U.S. citizen. But it seems to me that the whole issue has moved into the realm of the absurd.

Looking back over my own life, I can recall more than a few instances when I had to produce my birth certificate: entrance into kindergarten at a public school; first job at age 14; first drivers license; first passport; and entry into the military, among others. That birth certificate, complete with baby footprints, is now old and yellow and crumbling a bit; but I’ve still got it. Had to do this with my kids as well. In fact, on one occasion I couldn’t find the certificate for one of the kids and simply sent away to Richmond for a certified and notarized copy of the original.

Now, it seems to me that this chap Obama could simply end all this stuff with one move: get out his birth certificate or a legal copy of same; hold it up in front of a TV audience; and say: “Here it is. That’s all, folks!” Even I am beginning to wonder why he does not do such a simple thing to end the argument. And, no, a statement from the authorities that he was born in Hawaii does not do the trick. In order to make such a statement, they have to have a copy of the original birth record or certificate somewhere in the files. Absent an actual birth certificate and as a genealogist, I would accept a look at the original birth log, signed and dated by the attending physician and verifiable as to its period authenticity. But a contemporary statement by someone that it happened as he claims? Nope. No sale. You get an asterisk in my genealogical charts.

Even those who are in the Obama camp ought to be questioning why the man does not solve an easily solveable problem forthwith and end all this blather.

And now I will bow out because I can sense Kevin warming up his laptop and starting off with “Et tu, Wolverine?!!!” Kevin just has to realize that Wolverine is a genealogist with many ancestors and relatives from Missouri — sort of a double dose of “Show me!”

This is not true. The US State Department responded to a Freedom of Information Request in a legal filing and said: “To the extent this paragraph alleges that President Obama is or ever was an Indonesian citizen, that allegation is denied.”

Answer: Where do you get this total baloney? In 1981, US newspapers ran articles about “scenic Lahore.” Pakistan International Airlines had an office on Fifth Avenue in New York and few from New York’s JFK Airport via London to Karachi.

Pakistan was not on the no-travel list in 1981.

As you can see, there was a travel advisory, which said that you can get 30-day visas at the airports. Nothing about “banned” was mentioned. The document actually says that tourists get 30-day visas while people with official business have to get their visas in advance. So Obama did not have to be “sponsored” by the embassy. He could be a tourist, and he was.

And, as I said before, he never had an Indonesian passport. He traveled on a US passport.

HE, you do have to get over this “ban” business on travel to Pakistan in the 1980’s. Bans by the USG on travel to particular countries are fairly rare. You are, for instance, talking Cuba here or perhaps The Lebanon, which was under a travel ban for 10 years or more because of the civil war and terrorist hostage taking. The USG promulgates bans for political reasons or because the situation in a country is absolutely chaotic. And we do so very rarely. A few are only short-term until a situation clears up, e.g., some of the Balkan countries.

I looks to me from a brief peek that Smrstrauss just might be right — that Pakistan was probably on State’s Travel Advisory list in the period when Obama is said to have visited there. What that means is that you can travel there on a US passport but you do so at a very grave risk to yourself. Either our diplomatic posts in that country are closed or strictly limited in movement or the US has little means of helping you if you get in trouble, either from the host government or because of a volatile situation. After the Travel Advisory comes the Travel Alert (usually short-term), and then the “careful evaluation” of your travel plans in descending order. Right now, there are 29 countries on the US Travel Advisory list.

Where a “ban” often comes in is when such usually partial ban is placed on travel by the host country itself for their own particular reasons. For instance, I understand you will not be allowed into Kuwait if you have a criminal record, are under investigation, or have an unresolved financial dispute with Kuwaiti citizens or companies. Sometimes it just comes down to what the interviewing consular official thinks of your potential motives when you go into their mission to apply. You should have seen the grilling I once got when I applied for a visa to an Eastern Bloc country during the 1960’s. An evil American traveling strangely from Africa to a Marxist country in a day when that country was not exactly a tourist hotspot for Americans? I got the visa, but I think it was darn close, especially because they knew I had friends in that country and were wary of that fact.

Out of curiosity I went back and looked in response to smrstrauss’s post. Although I do not have the time to do a through historical study, my initial sense is that he was probably right on the basic theme: no USG ban, just a Travel Advisory. What he didn’t say is that there appears to have been some arguments about a travel ban on the Pakistani end, i.e. that the Paks were giving 30-day visas to business travelers, certain “friends”, etc. but that most ordinary tourist-type travelers were being refused. I can’t tell from here who was right in that argument. However, I can opine that, under such circumstances, Obama could have gone there as a student-tourist on a US passport if he had friends with influence in the country, which might have been the case. As I stated in a previous post, it is easy enough in many countries for people with influence to grease the right palms and overcome most travel restrictions on their American visitors not imposed directly by the U.S. Sometimes they can do it even when the USG itself has imposed a ban by simply, as I stated previously, placing the entry and exit stamps on a separate piece of paper.

As for the type of passport actually used? I am beginning to think we will never know that for sure until they build and open the Obama Presidential Library in South Chicago, hopefully starting in 2013.
