“For those concerned about stimulus spending, the General Services Administration sends word tonight that $18 million in additional funds are being spent to redesign the Recovery.gov Web site. “Recovery.gov 2.0 will use innovative and interactive technologies to help taxpayers see where their dollars are being spent,” James A. Williams, commissioner of GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service, says in a press release announcing the contract awarded to Maryland-based Smartronix Inc. according to the ABC news blog.”
$18 million for a web site redesign ? Pretty major tit for tat, glad they are cutting back now that they have sent the federal deficit spiraling out of control..
Gee, this will create all of TWO jobs..
Meanwhile, over at the Social Security Administration…..
Social Security Administration Holds Workers Retreat at Arizona Biltmore
On Monday, the Social Security Administration began a three-day retreat for more than 700 employees, from as far away as Guam, at Phoenix’s posh Biltmore Hotel.
The glorified vacation, which SSA officials describe as a “training workshop,” cost taxpayers roughly $750,000.

Is it too much to ask our government officials to think about how our money is being spent when we are now running a trillion dollar deficit?
Sigh.
I don’t know whether to cry or puke.
Way back when in 1978, when I was a new Army lieutenant in Germany, we had a grizzled old one star general talk to us at the end of our annual general inspection. The one thing he said I remember was, “The American people entrust to us the two most precious things they have–their children and their money, and it is our duty to take care of both of them”.
Wouldn’t it be something if our Congresscritters would do the same?
I just don’t know what to say anymore. Plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose.
wow that is pathetic but not surprising in this spend spend and maybe we might pay later world we live in.
So, fix up the website for a cool $18 million. How about that conference at a luxury spa in Phoenix for 700 employees of the going-bust Social Security Administration? Ka-ching. Add another $700,000 to the national tab. They will probably call it a “stimulus” success on behalf of illegal immigrant busboys.
