Mao and Stalin would be so proud! This is sick. The teachers are brain washing these kids. Could someone explain how a cult of personality can end in anything other than misery?
I saw this a couple weeks ago when the brohaha came about over the Pres speaking to school children.
So, Jacob. How about some details.? Private school? Public school? If public, the teachers should be fired. And using “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” to promote the cult of personality. Shame.
Is this China circa 1955 ?
If it were my children, they would be in a new school the next day.
Oprah’s “Pledge to be a servant to our president and all mankind.” Harpo Productions produced.
Oprah’s confused, he is supposed to serve us.
There have been reports of teachers having the kids face bHo’s photo as the Pledge Aliegence
I hit submit by accident, it was to read:
There have been reports of teachers having the kids face bHo’s Photo (Not the Flag), with their hands over their hearts as they quote the Pledge of Allegiance every morning.
Reaction by the parents:
This happened last February in celebration of Black History month.
Since the Usurper was having problems convincing parents and grandparents that his health care bill should pass, he decided to campaign at colleges.
He used all the usual scare tactics, how pathetic.
The Interloper is not happy unless he is spreading gloom, doom and worst case scenarios. The sky has been falling since 1-20-09, in more ways than one.
Cathymac, that’s a good article. He does need to leave the kids alone. I will say that there are many parents who are leading their children to believe that he is the missiah.
A few months ago, his buddy Rev Wright said, Obama ain’t Jesus, he’s a politician doing what politicians do.” People should listen to him this time.
Best joke on the TV tonite…
What’s the difference in God and Obama?
God doesn’t think he’s Obama.
BPM I’d pay good money for topless pictures of SE Cupp.
Barack Obama is a prophet, all should sing praise to him.
Hey, nice chamber you got here!
whose fault is that? You need to come in and show us the error of our ways!
Everybody loves a good messiah.
The sad thing is that those kids are going to have pay for Obama’s theft.
Obama just needs to resign while his approval rating is still in double digits.
I am perplexed on young adults calling for Obamacare. When I was your age, I spent probably $200 a year on medical, and I would really be PO’d if by govt mandate I had to pay $3800.
Dans, people my age are morons.
They’ve had Mommy and Daddy pay for everything their entire lives and fail to realize that costs are a lot more important when your entire income isn’t disposable. So taxes and mandates are just so many numbers to them. If anything they think taxes should be higher because they’ve been brainwashed by their Liberal Arts professors during the 6 years it took them to get a university studies degree and the liberal news media when they’ve happened to leave the TV on after Grey’s Anatomy.
People my age have had their critical thinking abilities so thoroughly destroyed by liberalized public schools and MTV they don’t just focus on style over substance, they only focus on style.
Not all, I know several 20 somethings that do have their heads screwed on straight. But I do feel that they may not be representative of their generation…
If one is a true critical thinker, no one can destroy that. Your age group needs to understand that your future belongs to you and no one else, and to refuse to let others predetermine your road ahead. Refuse to let others hobble you was my guiding principle when I was in my 20s..
SE Cupp is a redhead. I swore those off after my marraige to one.
On topic though, if this had happened to one of my kids you’d be reading a story in the local paper about some elementary school teacher beaten to within an inch of their life and left in a dumpster.
Right, Cato, violence settles the problems.
The American way – a shoot-out. Pow, you’re dead, problem solved.
“Violence IS the answer. Any questions?”
It’s amazing how some people condone a teacher or anyone in a position of authority for that matter, using your child to promote their political agenda, instruct your child to memorize and and perform in front of a camera, in turn the tape will be broadcast with your child’s image and school worldwide without your permission.
Many parents shield photos of their children from the internet for security reasons.
I’ll just assume that some believe that this alright because the kids have their clothes on.
It appears that this may have been a publicity stunt by the teacher to promote the book that she wrote about the Usurper which was carefully placed on a easel in plain view during the taping.
I love how all these liberals do not have a problem with indoctrinating children when it comes to politics. They will go totally ape if you have a prayer to God. Suddenly its imposing your views on a free society. Hypocrites as usual.
That’s me Lowvisa, solving your problems one NEA member at a time…
Off topic, but what the heck. Advice from your friendly Neighborhood Watch fanatic. If you have friends and neighbor who continue to leave items like GPS units, MP3 players, or anything else of value in their vehicles, please tell them to knock it off. The smash-and-grab bastards are out there again in Sterling and Ashburn, among other places. We had eight cars broken into (windows smashed for entry) on the same night (24 Sep, 1230 to 0600) in the North Sterling Boulevard area (Winchester Drive all the way down to West Vernon). On 23 Sep, three cars were broken into in the same general area and a fourth theft was interrupted about 1:30am. Witness description allowed deputies to locate the alleged thief (name of Portello, age 27, Sterling resident), who bit one of the deputies while being placed under arrest.
PEOPLE HAVE JUST GOT TO GET SOME BRAINS AND QUIT LEAVING THINGS IN THEIR VEHICLES. PLEASE!!! AND, FOR GOSH SAKES, IF YOU HAPPEN TO GET UP IN THE EARLY HOURS TO USE THE JOHN OR SOMETHING, PLEASE TAKE A LOOK OUT THE WINDOWS TO SEE WHAT MAY BE HAPPENING ON THE STREET. AND DO NOT HESITATE TO CALL THE LCSO IF YOU ARE UNHAPPY WITH WHAT YOU SEE!
So Jacob, you are saying that you are in favor of indoctrinating children when it comes to Christianity but not when it comes to a President who is a Democrat? Or are you against any form indoctrination?
The difference, dear zimzo, is that one is the Creator and the other is a Marxist with a cocaine habit. Speaking on a personal basis I’m not against *all* indoctrination, I just don’t think we should be elevating Marxist coke heads who hate America.
There seems to be an abundance of information about the Usurpers Socialist, Marxist upbringing and background:
Obama participated in socialist party
Activist recalls president’s time with radical Chicago political group
“newspaper evidence showing Obama was a member of the New Party, which sought to elect members to public office with the aim of moving the Democratic Party far leftward to ultimately form a new political party with a socialist agenda.”
Guess who screened White House appointments!
Think tank developed by prez links socialist party to presidential picks
Obama mentored by Communist Party figure
Investigations show ties to radicals who shaped him, helped launch his political career
His father and his stepfather. Also, his grandfather apparently was very fond of some of the same people.
‘Puft Man is laying low until health care legislation passes. Open discussion of the falsehoods being used to prop up the universal health care agenda would be bad, bad, bad for the left.
The “Obama Praise Chorus” video is sickening, but from what I’ve read FDR was semi-worshiped too, although not to the same extent (i.e. photos of FDR everywhere – in the home, workplace, etc.) Progressives have to push God out and replace Him with _something_.
thank you for your standard deliberate MIS-interpretation. You are boring the hell out of me with your predictability.
It is not the job of the school to indoctrinate but to teach. Some indoctrination will occur regardless because teaching wanders into indoctrination innocently, meaning without intent, when ever something that involves judgment is involved. History, literature, even some sciences like Biology have this component. That is part of the world we live in.
The hypocrisy is that the left for years gets very upset about things like the pledge of allegiance because God is mentioned. BUT, engages is setting up a cult of personality (worship of) Obama. The entire ‘values based’ curriculum was another route were the left wanted a given mindset imposed. There is literature that supports this.
Currently, students are not allowed to voice there personal belief in God. No prayers by the football team. No thanking God at the podium by the valedictorian. That is unacceptable. BUT, now the school principle is defending the right of the teacher to impose a belief on the kids, how is this not the establishment of a cult? And you then pull your usual crap.
Let me spell it out for you. Students are the private citizens, they are allowed to voice THEIR beliefs. The first amendment guarantees the right to both speech and expression of religion. That teachers represent the government — as agents of such they need to keep their mouths shut in this regard. And you, of course, don’t get that. The law has been turned on its head, and you don’t get it. LOL. Since you are not that stupid, you must be that evil.
The person who should be most upset by this is you. Given your alleged center position (ROTFL), this should be seen as a betrayal. Instead, you come out and attack those who are upset for attacking the left. Why?
Make a visit to Below The Beltway and get a load of the tribute to W Bush at “Jesus Camp”!
Not sure if anyone posted this yet:
Forgot to add, Disney explains the indoctrination of German Children by the Nazis.
I doubt very much if “Jesus Camp” was funded with taxpayer dollars.
You’re the one who made the comparison between school prayer and singing about Obama, Jacob, not me. I happen to think schools should be about teaching kids to think for themselves not indoctrination of any kind, while you seem to think that only Christian indoctrination is OK. If you were consistent and not a hypocrite you would agree that any indoctrination is wrong.
More school: Obama would curtail summer vacation
“Our school calendar is based upon the agrarian economy and not too many of our kids are working the fields today,”
“Young people in other countries are going to school 25, 30 percent longer than our students here,” Duncan told the AP. “I want to just level the playing field.”
More time for the schools to brainwash and recruit for the Usurpers citizen army.
Hmm, I wonder if the teachers would receive pay raises for all of those additional hours and to compensate those who work other jobs in the summer?
Zimzo, here’s my personal take. As you clearly understand, “indoctrination” in a religious setting, whether Christian, Islamic, Bahai, Jewish, or any other faith is quite normal and has been for eons. Most of it is purely Sunday School and cathechism stuff but not always. Only when it gets out of hand and presents a threat to society as a whole or to particular individuals should it be any of our concern. Otherwise it is fully acceptable under the laws and customs of this country. In almost all cases, it is really none of our business, even if we disagree with a religious doctrine or believe in no religion at all.
Only when religion creeps out into our society in a disturbing of the peace manner, e.g. these people who go around demonstrating at military funerals or any religion which teaches violence against others, should we be concerned enough to address the issue. Ergo, if a particular church wishes to idolize George Bush or Barrack Obama or any other leader in a peaceful way within its own confines, that may be of concern to some for political reasons; but it does not give anyone a license to interfere. If, for instance, the Rev Wright wants to cuss out America from his pulpit, I may think he is a jerk and say so, but I have absolutely no right to try to shut him up. In many another country, a like statement by a Rev. Wright against the government would soon cause the Rev. to be among the mysteriously missing. I think you and I can agree that this is the particular beauty of our own system.
Public schools, in my opinion, are entirely different since they belong to all of us regardless of religion or politics. With regard to our political leaders, there should only be an evenhanded and balanced teaching about current events. Present both sides of the issues and do not try to influence the mindset of the kids one way or the other. Most teachers do this. Some, however, forget their proper role and try to impart their own political leanings to the kids, the New Jersey incident being an acute case in point. To me that is an absolute no-no. Having small children sing praises to a particular leader in such a setting is purely the tactic of dictatorships. This I have personally seen many times in my travels and work abroad.
With regard to the subject of religion in public schools, we must also be evenhanded, especially in those cases where we have considerable religious diversity. Each religion should be taught as to its basic tenets so that the kids are informed across the spectrum on the diversity of our religious life. Each religion must also be honored to the fullest extent, and no one religion should receive higher consideration than another in that purely academic setting. Parents who want that sort of thing have the option of private religious schools or homeschooling.
Now, where I see the current problem is that we seem to be over-worshipping diversity in many of our schools. And there is often a strong feeling among devout Christian parents, Protestant and Catholic alike, that the public schools in some cases have elevated the other religions to a special recognition status and seemingly placed Christianity in a disfavored status. How, for instance, can a school openly make a special deal about the Islamic Ramadan, as some do, and then change the name of Christmas to the “Winter Festival” and forbid the use of any religious symbols to note that holiday in the schools?
I think that this is a key factor in making Christian parents increasingly skeptical of the public schools and ready to try to find alternative schooling for their children. It is, in my opinion, one of the principal factors in the homeschooling trend, the others being consideration of acadamic quality in the public schools and disciplinary problems in those same schools. In short, many Christian parents see a trend of bias against their own religion and a contrary celebration of other religions in an almost worshipful attitude toward diversity. To me personally this is a problem that must be overcome and which can only be overcome through completely evenhanded respect and consideration.
How would I practice this in concrete terms? I, for instance, have never been a supporter of open prayer in the public school sports arena, even though my background is a combination of fundamentalist Protestantism and conservative Catholicism. If we pray in such circumstances, it should be solely for Divine protection for those kids from harm on the playing field, not for hometown victory or anything else. That ought to be an entirely common desire. I see no harm then in asking everyone present to pray silently according to their own religion. If you happen to be an atheist or agnostic, so don’t pray, but I’m sure you would have the same basic concern in mind for those kids. Just let it pass or go to the hotdog stand or something. Stop being so ready to jump down someone else’s throat because they “have religion”, so to speak. Just a little acceptance and peace might go a long ways here.
Wolv has a wonderful take on the matter as a whole, but I will answer your 2nd misunderstanding.
In the past 20 years the terms Christmas has been mad a dirty word in many schools. Students who of the own volition want to thank God, or (Obama forbid) Jesus are prevented from doing so on the grounds that this just might be seen as indoctrinating some hapless soul. This has been the work of the left.
Now, with the coming of Obama we have a ridiculous Soviet style bit of leader-worship being conducted by the same idiots who would prevent a student from stating thier beleifs. The irony is to die for.
The part I reall enjoy is how these same self appointed champions of ‘free thinking’ do not understand the difference between the rights of the individual — which are inalienable — and those of the state, which are bestowed upon it by the individuals that comprise the society.
Then you waltze in a write #26. Why is it everyone here got this, but you?
Everyone seems to have ignored Obama’s prayer at the end of his speech to the public school students: “God Bless You. God Bless America.” I thought prayer by government officials (teachers, or politicians) in public schools is unconstitutional. Is that not religious indoctrination?
I realize some of you like public prayer when you can control the content and oppose it otherwise. However I have never figured out how you can support the 1A and still believe in politicizing religion. If posting “In Obama We Trust” in public schools makes your blood boil then why are you so supportive of posting “In God We Trust.” When America has a Muslim President, are you suddenly going to object to Allah Bless America at the end of presidential speeches.
This is for both sides: You can’t be for separation of church and state only when you are in the political wilderness. The success of religion in America is dependent on it remaining apolitical.
Earth to Novatownhall: Obama (POTUS) told kids to stay in school.
Jesus. H. Christ.
(Jack, this is where you say, “Yeah, Hitler was pro-education, too!”)
Sarah Palin says, “boo!” and you all start screaming like little girls. Glen Beck says, “Liberals are goose-stepping sheep” and you all shout “Hail Glen!” in unison. At long last, have you no sense of irony?
Well. That was ‘interesting’. Thanks. … ?
I don’t think anybody here is looking for a ‘Christian’ country. It was founded as such by and large – many of the States had a ‘State Sponsored’ religion. PA – Quaker; RI – Baptist; MA, CT, – Puritan; VA – Episcopal; MD – Catholic.
That aside, we are looking for a country were the valedictorian is allowed to declare his belief. The football team if it wants to can pray. The key is that the constitution forbids a FEDERAL government sponsoring a _given_ faith, not faith in general. The document does not forbid private citizens from declaring their personal faith.
The loons in the NJ school are creating a cult of personality a la’ Mao around Obama. These idiots probably did not allow silent night to be sung during ‘Winterfest’. Ed, there is something really wrong with that.
Many other presidents have said the ‘God’ during a speech and I see nothing wrong with that. God is faith neutral – Jesus, Allah, Yahweh, Vishnu, Budda are not faith neutral terms. So I am not sure what you are driving at there.
But, Jacob, haven’t liberals always been “goose-stepping sheep”? Reminds me of that time at grad school when I happened upon a meeting in the quad of a group of American undergrads who were forming a support group for Cuba. The young woman in charge was lecturing the group on what it means for the people to have power. A fellow in the back — let’s call him “Henry” — innocently asked her a question she didn’t like. Man, all you heard for about three minutes was” “Shut up, Henry!! How dare you ask questions like that?!!! Just keep your f***ing mouth shut until I tell you you can speak!!!” Poor Henry looked sheepishly around and shut up, cowed by the young woman leader and by the angry stares of the militant females on either side of him. I wonder if Henry is still goose-stepping out there somewhere. Viva Fidel!!!
I’m still waiting for that apology, puffalump.
why does SPMM owe you an apology?
North Carolina school indoctrination:
did I hurt your eyes?
What you didn’t know that “Shut the F$$$ up, Henry” is secret liberal code for, “the revolution begins tonight.”
just like, “Wash your hands” and “stay in school” mean, “Proletarian victory is inevitable” and “the history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles”
Don’t you know that us liberals always speak in code?? …you don’t even want to know what those public service announcements that get aired on NPR are about! But fyi, if you ever hear one telling you that “Free flu shots are available at ____” you should probably load up on ammo, and make sure you have a full tank of gas. …but I’ve already said too much
Can you translate “Hope And Change” for us ? It appears to be code for fubar..
Well, Staypuft, I do think that, in the case of “Henry” at least, there was no code involved. I remember wondering whether he could wind up in a gulag somewhere — or maybe cutting sugar cane in Cuba. I think that both of us might have had the same reaction to the female pseudo-comrade doing the yelling and insulting — like punching her in the mouth, if just on behalf of poor old “Henry.”
NPR? Who listens to NPR anymore?
BTW, I do have a question for you which is close to home. Whatever happened to the stimulus money which was to supposed to help out Metro Detroit? My brother recently went to a Tiger game. En route to the ballpark, he took a wrong turn and wound up in an area where there were people all over the place actually living in tents in the open lots. He said it was shocking. What the Hell is going on back there?
What’s going on in Detroit? Under union control, it became a socialist utopia. Looks a lot like the old CCCP, doesn’t it?
Basically, would the last poor slob to leave detroit after the total and abysmal collapse of their liberal utopia.. please lite the fuse? I mean, all that’s left are the cockroaches…and you know how hard they are to kill.
No offense to those from the Great State of Michigan. It’s just the Detroit area that seems to have rotted under several corrupt demorats.
Places in the U.S.A. where the Democraps have a lock on the local guv’mint:
Detroit — lovely place, if crime poverty, corruption an hopelessness are your cup of tea
New Orleans — makes Bangladesh look pristine
Chicago — settled by NY’ers who really appreciated the crime squalor and poverty of NY but found the weather far too nice.
They’re still working out the kinks with the magic wand they bought with the stimulus money. Meanwhile, 28.9% unemployment => Hoovervilles
Politics in the city are messed up, but it’s a little simplistic to say it’s because of the Dems. Most urban areas vote Democratically. If you want to get elected in Detroit, you run as a Democrat, just like if you want to win in rural Michigan you run as a Republican. And of course the whole state’s in crisis. The state’s using stimulus $ as a bridge loan to plug holes in the budget, keeping some in reserve and gambling that the recession doesn’t last for more than 2 years.
A lot of the other stimulus money is marked for specific uses, and that’s coming in, but it’s not, as I said, a magic wand. A lot of bridges are being repaired, a lot of highway construction. That’ll create some temporary jobs, but it’s not a strategy for reviving the city (and no one is fooled by that) There’s money for safety net health and human service stuff, but it’s not enough to keep up with the layoff-foreclosure perfect storm.
And speaking of Tiger’s, don’t tell me about “hopelessness!”
Detroit was never a socialist utopia. Even back when it seemed like a symbol of American prosperity it was a super-segregated town loaded with latent racism that finally erupted in ’67 and burned the place down. That was followed by white flight and years and years of tensions between the wealthy white suburbs and the black city, with ever-present racial undertones
So don’t go acting like it’s all the unions, and that Detroit is some kind of text-book case for what happens when you let workers get too uppity, or whatever it is you’re driving at. It’s a complicated deal, and oversimplified finger-pointing doesn’t help anything.
…and I’ll be damned if y’all think I’m refrain from pointing out the thinly-vialed racism when monk says, “all that’s left are the cockroaches…and you know how hard they are to kill,” in referencing a city that’s 90% black after decades of white flight, right? It’s either racism or it’s so ignorant of the history that it looks identical. I know you all are sick of the “race card” but you have got to be kidding me.
why are we talking about Detroit, anyway? I thought this was about liberal plots to brainwash kids!
Staypuft, because you are there and I used to be there and I am interested in your perspective on the subject. 28.9% unemployment — Jumpin’ Jehosephat! My old hometown on the other side of the state is hitting 20%, and the local charities are crying out for donations. We just lost one of our few remaining big industries which had been in operation for over 100 years. Can’t imagine what it’s like in Flint, et al. Never thought I’d see “Hoovervilles” in my lifetime.
BTW, Staypuft is absolutely correct about what happened to Detroit itself. It’s a sad, sad American story that goes a long ways back. My own feeling is that, if we ever can get together without political rancor to accomplish a major domestic task, it would be to rebuild something like this. Republican, Democrat or anything else, the current economic and social state of Detroit city in particular is a real black eye on the American mosaic.
Great article. Thanks, Staypuft.
‘why are we talking about Detroit, anyway? I thought this was about liberal plots to brainwash kids!’
Since when have we ever managed to stay on to …
LOOK!! A TREE!
[Detroit] was a super-segregated town loaded with latent racism that finally erupted in ‘67 and burned the place down.
Racism didn’t burn the place down. Blacks did. And we all know Blacks can’t be racists.
That was followed by white flight and years and years of tensions between the wealthy white suburbs and the black city, with ever-present racial undertones.
Are you trying to tell me that Blacks are incapable of governing themselves? Now who’s the racist?
So don’t go acting like it’s all the unions, and that Detroit is some kind of text-book case for what happens when you let workers get too uppity, or whatever it is you’re driving at.
Yeah, it must be the crappy educational system. That’s why only 11% of the people in Detroit have a college degree, and less than 70% have a high school diploma. Oh, wait, the unions are running the schools, too.
It’s a complicated deal, and oversimplified finger-pointing doesn’t help anything.
Unless you point the finger at Whitey, of course. That solves everything.
Look, guys and gals. I am a conservative or “constitutionalist” who makes no bones about it. You know that from my previous posts. However, I have also seen slums which few can believe unless you put them in one. I spent years either in homes surrounded by African slums, working in those slums, or, on one occasion, actually living in one. Wattle-and-daub or simple cement block walls; thatched or corrugated tin roofs; no running water; no toilets except a hole in the ground out back; no electricity in most of the residences; no trash service; neighborhood public schools (I taught in one for several years) barely surviving in the poorest of conditions; the school kids doing their homework under the street lamps because there was no electricity at home. Life at night by candlelight or hurricane lamp, sanitary conditions minimal, death a frequent and early visitor — all under the control of statist or military governments in which corruption was the order of the day.
The first time I introduced Mrs. Wolverine to this scene she could not believe her eyes. As a nurse and expecially a public health nurse, she began trying to fight back through charity and personal effort, at one time joining with the U.S. Navy Seabees to totally revamp an urban hospital in which exit by coronor’s cart was the most frequent means of checking-out. It was like trying to swim against a tidal wave. When you see that and experience that, you are consoled only by the fact that you are an American and that you can always go home to a country which functions.
Let me tell you something. Except for refugee camps created as a result of civil war, I never saw sub-Saharan Africans living in tents in the cities. And now I am told that some of our own people are living in tents in empty lots in a major American city in my home state. Not only that but living in tents in a place where the cold winter is coming soon. In essence, we are right back in some cases to the “Hoovervilles” of the 1930′s.
I don’t care if you are liberal, conservative, libertarian or whatever, THAT IS A NATIONAL SHAME. I don’t care how it happened or how we got there or what the skin color of anyone is. That we would allow such a thing to continue in this country is beyond explanation or excuse. Screw arguments about this or that race or about unions or politcal ideologies or anything else. We, all of us, had better get our collective act together or hang our heads in collective shame.
Kids from the Ron Clark Academy are on CNN singing for health care reform set to Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the USA.” The song mentions “Obama says everyone needs health care now.”
