Done traveling for now

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Finally home after two weeks on the road. Blog seems to be working again, though the admin interface is a little clunky. Can’t find “categories” for instance but who really cares about categories at the end of the day, right?

Unfortunately I have nothing to inform or instruct you about, as the purpose of my travel would have very little interest for you – this I can assure you. So it will take some time to get versed on what is going on around here. I know on Tuesday I will be out at 0-dark:30 to set up one of the local polling places.

Here is an exercise: The past two weeks I was in two very different places, represented by the photos below. Can anyone identify a) the two towns, and b) the two sites depicted? First person to get all four correct wins a free sundae, glass of wine, or body shot, depending on your preference.

Some Things Money Can’t Buy

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

The unions are coming at Virginia hard, with considerable contributions to Democrats. The tip of the iceberg :

American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees : $2,009,959

Service Employees International Union : $432,929

Laborers Mid Atlantic Regional Organizing Coalition : $321,000

Communication Workers of America COPE : $207,376

Your vote to keep the unions out of Virginia : PRICELESS

We have had nine months to witness the impact of the unions upon national policy, and it is painfully obvious that this is not we want for our future here in Virginia.

The Miller Principle

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

We all have heard the very outspoken Stevens Miller discussing his limited qualifications for state office. In September of 2007 he summed it up rather succinctly :

“No one should run for office if they don’t have experience in county affairs”

At the time Miller was running for the Board of Supervisors. Two years later, Miller is now running for delegate and the topic has changed to state level affairs. Does he have any experience in state level business ? As it is nowhere to be found on his limited resume, the reasonable answer to this question is “no”.

By his own words, he has no business running for state delegate.

A Bargain with the Empire

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

Darth 0bama is altering the bargain. Pray he does not alter it again.

Like Vader with Lando Calrissian, 0bama alters deals at a whim. Will Congress hold him accountable for this egregious usurpation of power? Of course not. According to Congress, any government power is good — after 0bama takes to power to himself, they will merely take it for themselves. But any alteration of the deal after the bailout money was given and accepted is and ex post facto law, and unconstitutional. But neither 0bama nor our Congresscritters care about the Constitution, either.

Justice ?

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Fresh from letting the Black Panther Party walk on charges of voter intimidation, now the Department of Injustice comes up with this :

Justice concludes black voters need Democratic Party
U.S. blocks N.C. city’s nonpartisan vote

KINSTON, N.C. | Voters in this small city decided overwhelmingly last year to do away with the party affiliation of candidates in local elections, but the Obama administration recently overruled the electorate and decided that equal rights for black voters cannot be achieved without the Democratic Party.

The Justice Department’s ruling, which affects races for City Council and mayor, went so far as to say partisan elections are needed so that black voters can elect their “candidates of choice” – identified by the department as those who are Democrats and almost exclusively black.

The Washington Times

Not quite sure what message the Obama administration is trying to convey here. The folks in Kinston don’t know how to manage and conduct their local elections ? Black voters in Kinston are incapable of independently learning the ideology of candidates on the ballot ? Black voters must be told which candidate to vote for by flagging them as Democrat ?

Or simply, the will of the people of Kinston doesn’t mean squat ?

Redskins’ blacked out all of a sudden?

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Did CBS just switch off the Redskins game or am I missing something?

test post – new techie stuff

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

Marching boldly into the year 2005, the missus and I have just acquired our first smartphones and I am testing to see if it might be a way to log in here and write a post on those frequent occasions I am away from the computer.

My initial verdict is this is really tedious typing on a Blackberry Tour but better than the old phone so who knows, maybe it will mean more blogging

My Debate Questions For Miller

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

As SEIU is the third largest contributor to your campaign, what do they want in return, and what are you prepared to give them ?

Currently, you are shown as owner and CEO of Data Forensics Lab of Northen Virginia, and an instructor at TRT Labs. How will you be able to effectively represent us in Richmond with these other commitments you appear to already have ? Two other jobs, plus a family does seem a bit much.

According to the Virginia Board of Elections, your District 86 address is 22947 Oakgrove Rd, but according to the Loudoun County tax records, you are not the owner of this townhouse. How do you convince us that renting a townhouse in District 86 is indicative of a commitment to residents in this district ? Do you even live in this townhouse, in the district you want to represent ?

When you ran for the office of county supervisor, your stated view on illegal hiring was “It doesn’t take a study to know that when the employers stop hiring them, undocumented aliens won’t come here anymore…That’s why I want to see an end to the employment of illegal aliens in Loudoun.”. Upon being elected you backtracked on this, why ?

Upon election to the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors, you indicated support for the county’s turning to the Chamber of Commerce for a proposed solution to the the hiring of illegal workers in Loudoun County. Is turning the hen house over to the fox a typical solution for you when dealing with significant civic issues ?

You appear to have a tendency to lash out at those that disagree with you. Why should we not expect this to be the norm if elected to the House of Delegates ?

You were elected to a full term of service on the Board Of Supervisors, but after two years of service you wish to bail. How do you respond to those that allege this demonstrates a lack of commitment on your part ?

Past statements tend to indicate a state of denial of a connection between illegal migration and gang recruitment. Does it remain your belief that there is no demonstrated connection between illegal migration and gang activity ?

Branding Suggestion For The GOP

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

As the national Democrat Party undergoes the most precipitous fall from grace since Lucifer, I am thinking of a new theme for the GOP going forward:

The Republican Party: Not blatantly attempting to destroy America.

International Year Of Astronomy

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

If you are not aware, this year is the International Year Of Astronomy.

In May of this year, Hubble’s old imager was replaced with the Wide Field Camera 3, a new $132 million instrument expected to probe deeper into the evolution of galaxies and the shed new light on the mysteries of dark matter and dark energy. It is designed to see back to about 500 million years after the birth of the universe.

Some of the newer Hubble images are absolutely amazing, and can be seen at HubbleSite.

In other news, NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope recently announced the discovery of another ring around Saturn.

Found: Bobby Fontaine

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

In case you were wondering what the good Sir Fontaine has been up to:

Voila, he reappears as “clandestiny.” He identifies himself here, in Fontaine fashion, on page 11. To get the full effect, as all our fellow cultists know, you need to scroll through the entire thread. When you have some time on your hands.

And thank goodness.

UPDATE: More classic Bobby.

UPDATE II: Oh good gosh. (Had we found this one before? If so I never saw it.)

UPDATE IIIHmm.

Fallen Soldier Arrives Sunday, 8:28 am, At Leesburg Airport

Sunday, October 11th, 2009

This came up in the comments, the report here forwarded by Eugene Delgaudio:

Law enforcement agencies in Loudoun County will be escorting the body of fallen soldier and Purcellville, VA resident Stephan L. Mace on Sunday, October 11, 2009.

The body of Mace, who was 21 at the time of his death, will be flown from Dover Air Force Base in Delaware to Leesburg Executive Airport and is due to arrive at 8:28 a.m. on Sunday. Members of the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Motor Squad, as well as personnel from the Leesburg Police Department, the Purcellville Police Department, the Middleburg Police Department and the Virginia State Police will be assisting with the escort to Hall Funeral Home in Purcellville, VA.

The route will follow Sycolin Road to the Route 15/Route 7 Bypass and continue onto Route 7 westbound. The motorcade will then exit onto Route 9 (Charles Town Pike) and then travel west on Colonial Highway through Hamilton, VA and into Purcellville, VA, on Main Street ending at Hall Funeral Home on South Nursery Avenue. Delays along this route should be expected.

Those wishing to show their support are asked to line the roadway along the listed secondary roads (Sycolin Road, Colonial Hwy. through Hamilton, and Main St. or South Nursery Ave. in Purcellville).

Please do not attempt to drive with the motorcade.

The Army specialist was among eight U.S. soldiers killed on October 3rd during a firefight against more than 200 Taliban insurgents in the Nuristan Province of Afghanistan.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 12, 2009 at the Purcellville Baptist Church. Mace will be interred at 11 a.m. Monday, October 19, 2009, at Arlington National Cemetery.

CBO says tort reform reduces deficit

Bolstering what is likely to be one of the Republicans’ key health care reform arguments on the Senate floor, Congress’ budget scorekeeper ruled that medical malpractice reform could reduce the federal deficit by $54 billion over 10 years.

Washington Times

Lawyers, reduced deficit ? Lawyers, reduced deficit ?
This is a no-brainer.

I would imagine this, coupled with cleaning up Medicare fraud, would go a very long way toward solving many of the issues in the current health care debate. Of course this is not acceptable to many inside the Beltway, as the money flows away from the special interests.
