Did CBS just switch off the Redskins game or am I missing something?
What game?!!! Was that what that was? Well, I’ll be hornswaggled.
HA! Be happy you didn’t have to watch.
An argument could be made that that did not even fit the definition of “football.” Technically I think it was more like “recess” – just a bunch of folks messing around on a grass field.
You didn’t miss anything. Unfortunately.
Joe, no way! What you described would be fun.
Well, I guess it WAS sort of fun, apart from the pesky “scoreboards” aspect – which in the end was more a distraction than anything else.
My understanding is that if the game is not sold out, it is not broadcast locally. If that is the reason for the blackout, then that is the first time in about 40 years that the Redskins have no been sold out. Dan Snyder, are you listening?
Blackout? More like a mercy killing.
Washington Redskins coach Jim Zorn lost more than a game on Sunday.
Zorn was told after a 14-6 setback to the previously winless Kansas City Chiefs that he will not call offensive plays anymore.
Executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato met with Zorn and told him that he has too many responsibilities right now, Redskins’ director of communications Zack Bolno said. The team did not reveal who would call plays, but an announcement is expected on Monday
Not an unexpected move. Now the Skins need to bring new special teams and offensive line coaches, they too are not getting it done…
The game was on my TV until the sorry end. Fortunately I was baking cookies during play time. Forget the beer. This needed stronger stuff!
It was on CBS…
“Executive vice president of football operations Vinny Cerrato met with Zorn and told him that he has too many responsibilities right now”
All I can say is – DUH!
Zorn is just the tip of the iceberg. Fare thee well, once noble franchise.
Is it possible to fire the owner? I can’t really forgive JKC for failing to keep the ‘Skins in the family.
Snyder is the football equivalent of Peter Angelos – when it comes to sports, they have the Reverse Midas touch. As long as Snyder is in charge, this franchise will continue to circle the drain, and yield us ever more embarrassing feats and firsts …
Anyone remember fall Sunday afternoons in RFK when the stadium stands bounced, you could hear “Hail to the Redskins” without turning on your tv, and visiting players looked as though they wanted to be anywhere else but where they were?
Me neither …
Speaking of circling the drain — wasn’t Zorn originally hired to *be* the offensive coordinator?
Anyway, after the number of coaches we’ve been through, you’d think it be apparent – it’s not the coaches.
If we can’t fire Snyder, fire everyone between Vinny and the parking lot attendants — inclusive.
But, unfortunately, that would leave Snyder to replace them – and he’d probably hire Joe Theismann to replace Vinny
It is strange that Zorn was originally hired to be the offensive coordinator and that is the first thing being “taken away” – what the hell?
How about selling the Redskins to Rush Limbaugh??? Oh to hear the crying again….
I believe that is a big piece of it, when the Skins left RFK, they didn’t just leave behind an old stadium, they left behind one of the leagues best home field advantages.
It all starts with the offensive line, and it would appear that Joe Bugel rode the Hogs to fame and glory. It would appear that w/o the Hogs, Bugel is a mediocre line coach at best.
Let’s hold our noses through the remainder of this season and hope when John Gruden comes in after this season he will do a complete overhaul of the coaching staff..
I love John Gruden but I don’t want him to be in a long line of failed coaches in Washington. I liked Marty Shottenheimer too, but it appears his “take no crap” style did not mix well with Mr. Snyder.
Snyder’s Redskins are a product that he re-shrinkwraps every few years to keep profits up. Shottenheimer did not have the marketing appeal and panache that fits with Snyder’s marketing plan, neither did Norv Turner, or Greg Williams.
Sad truth, nothing will change as long as Snyder is getting his $20 million a year. If you can believe it, now Snyder wants a new stadium from DC.
I was raised in Colorado and I’m a HUGE Bronco fan. (REALLY HUGE).
Until I married my husband I had never given much thought to the Redskins. However, my husband, children, friend’s, co-workers etc. bleed burgundy and gold. With every Redskins loss my husband’s mood becomes more foul. My co-workers are all snapping at one another and perfect strangers look like the sky is falling. At the jail where I work the officers are…hmm… well let’s just say the inmates need to be on their best behavior.
So, I need the Redskins to WIN soon so everyone can smile again.
Having said that the Denver Broncos are 5:0 WOOOHOOO
Dan, That’s why Snyder is failing, a winning team shows profits. A losing team with an array of coaches loses fans and money, look how empty the stadium was yesterday. We are all getting weary.
Sheeze, I sure miss Jack Kent Cooke. Who thought that would happen?
Can we vote Dan Snyder off our island?
cmac, In DC, a losing team shows profits.
The seats may have been empty, but they were still paid for. The Skins currently have a backlog of 90K desiring season tickets. Snyder is still getting his, the Skins are the number two highest grossing NFL team as I recall, behind those melon farmers in Dallas..
Your Broncos have it together this year, Phyllis. Lots of good things are going to happen with that team.
As to the other issue …. best to hunker down and walk on eggshells because it is going to be a looooooong season for Redskins fans. Some chickens have come home to roost and they are not going anywhere soon – about as long as it takes to build a team through the draft which last time I checked was several years, and Washington has not even started the process yet.
The skins need to kick Vinny in his ass out the door, or as Riggins said on his blog, will someone take Snyders blankie away from him.
Joe, Washington build a team through the draft ? This is Washington, any problem can be solved just by throwing money at it, right ?
If you took all of the Skins draft picks for the last five years, you would not even have a foundation for a competitive college team. The Skins do not know how to draft. Maybe they should bring Jimmy Johnson in as a draft consultant.
As of now, there will be no salary cap next year. Curious to see what will happen with the Skins, and the Boys..
The new Skins logo :
Gruden coaching the Redskins next year? Ha! Chucky is too smart to walk into the toxic environment Snyder has created. He can be an abrasive and demanding coach, which would not go over well with the high-priced veterans on the team.
Redskins fans need to boycott the games. Give up those over-priced season tickets and watch the game at home on the new 100″ HD TV you can now afford! Get 6 beers for the price of one. When Snyder realizes he can no longer gouge the fans maybe he’ll leave town!
Dan, I know the tickets are sold, but no one is there buying the overpriced beer, hotdogs and popcorn, no one is paying the fees to park and more importantly no one is buying NFL Redskins gear that they make millions on – it’s not just tickets. Empty seats and irritated fans mean lost revenue. Add it all up and Snyder’s team won’t be number 1, 2 or 3 anymore.
cmac, If you are right I’ll be the first to say you told me so..
Synder only has to drop a couple notches to take notice.
There is more action at a Lower Loudoun Little League Football contest than there is at FedEx Field on a Sunday. Concessions are cheaper too — and they do NOT go into Snyder’s pocket.
I went to Fed-Ex filed … once. It was to watch VT play USC. Once was once to often. The parking overpriced everything … and getting out of there was a nightmare. The game ended between midnight and 1AM. I got to my car around 4am.
OPERATIONAL NOTE TO OUR READERS AND CO-BLOGGERS: FYI our host just changed something on our server which causes us to no longer be able to log into WordPress and write new posts – so until I make a major software change there will probably be no new posts here at NVTH.
And because I am in the midst of a serious travel gig, I have no frickin’ idea when I will be able to do that.
Although if I happen to be up very very late enjoying a fine cabernet, there is no telling what I might try, or whether it will work, so who knows ….
To our really longtime readers: Isn’t it bizarre how all of the truly challenging changes and milestones at this blog have taken place in the fall during my business travel periods? Weird.
Anyway, the existing threads are the only ones we will have possibly for many days, and there could be some major interruptions to the blog availability.
HA! Dan just tried to post this comment but for some reason it is not showing up (probably due to tech issues referenced above), so I will repost:
Just received this email :
> Q. What do you call 47 millionaires sitting around a TV watching
> the Super Bowl?
> A. The WashingtonRedskins.
> Q. What do the Redskins and Billy Graham have in common?
> A. They both can make 70,000 people stand up and yell “Jesus
> Q. How do you keep the Redskins out of your yard?
> A. Put up a goal post.
> Q. Where do you go in D.C. in case of a tornado?
> A. To FedEx Field – they never have a touchdown there!
Joe, might this all mean that you made Obama’s “enemies list”? If so, you are in good company.
Wolv, it might just mean there’s free wifi at the residence motels the SEIU are staying in for the next two weeks. lol
Smae thing, I guess, huh?
Wolv, you know, I never thought of that! And normally I have a natural, well-developed and entirely healthy sense of paranoia. Gosh I’d have thought if they wanted to shut us down they would have simply sent a goon squad over but leaning on our hosting company would be just as effective, now that you mention it, and leave no fingerprints.
Dan S has tried to guide me through an alternate method for posting but alas I am too technologically illiterate to manage it, so until someone deigns to fix whatever they did to mess up our PHP settings, I will be stuck here in the comments.

“there’s free wifi at the residence motels the SEIU are staying in for the next two weeks”
The stimulus plan at work..
You know, those motel wifi’s are not secure….
Remember Mitch Snyder who work to ensure that DC had no homeless ?
Now it appears we have Dan Snyder, trying to ensure the NFL has no winless !
Reminds me of my younger son. In the last game of one of his chess tournaments — I suppose he was about 8 — he lost the game. I said, “I really surprised — I thought you’d win that one.”
He said, “Yeah, well, he hadn’t won any games yet, so I showed him how to checkmate me.”
Well, Joe, not being a tech wonk either, let me make a non-technical suggestion for (hopefully) the short term. Pick out a thread which is already existent but pretty much exhausted with regard to comments. Headline your post with “NEW THREAD FROM JOE” and then proceed to give us the new subject of the day. The rest of us can take it from there. This may result in very long threads numerically, but I would suppose there is no limit on that. You can always skip around to other exhausted threads on which to piggyback. We can always follow you by scanning the “Recent Comments” bar and using a bit of common sense. We could call it “Plan Budzinski” or “Plan B” for short. I’m game.
I’m assuming that “Plan B” could draw some a**holes who would try to post under Joe’s name. I also assume that Joe retains his power to scrub things off a thread. This might take some extra attention to the blog, but it sure beats having the blog go silent for any length of time.
“Dan S has tried to guide me through an alternate method for posting but alas I am too technologically illiterate to manage it, ”
Joe, this was pretty straight forward. If you want to try it again with TextMate, send me an email and I’ll walk you through it over ichat…
or google “mac blog editor”, there’s a ton of stuff out there.. Sribefire is a Firefox plugin.. http://www.scribefire.com/
