Not only did the Republicans sweep Virginia, gaining a seat or two in the House of Delegates along the way, but they took the governorship of New Jersey, and gay marriage was defeated in Maine. The leftists have been spanked. Praise God!

Joe still hung over?? Nevermind that…he’ll give a blow-by-blow when he gets up.
Congrats to all the Republican victories. Especially here in Loudoun— Dare we say —Northern Virginia?? It appears that if even briefly, it is bright red this morning.
Yeah I slept in, yesterday was a looong day.
More later. For now, let’s just say the American people have spoken.
I still have to go pick up my car at the Dock!
Great to see everyone last night and let’s all get together at the LCDC lair O’F’s, after we recover from last night……..
Republicans said, I told you so.
Independents and those duped by Change We Can Believe in said, Can I have a do over ?
LOL. This from Reuters: ” ‘These races turned on local and state issues and circumstances and on the candidates in each race — and despite what some will certainly claim — the results are not predictive of the future or reflective of the national mood or political environment,’ said Democratic Party chief Tim Kaine.”
Sorry, hit “send” too soon … my point was, it fails to mention that Kaine is also the current governor of VA who helped CREATE the “state issues and circumstances” that got McDonnell elected. Too funny.
Ran the election day numbers in HD 86. (Couldn’t run absentee because Gov. absentee votes weren’t broken down by precinct.) Stevens Miller got only 46.43% in a district where even Creigh Deeds managed to get 49.35%.
Yep. Stevens Miller managed to get a smaller share of the vote than a candidate who couldn’t articulate a vision for anything beyond an outright promise to raise taxes.
Stevens Miller is a sorry excuse for a man. What a dolt. Shame he did not have to resign from the Lo-Co BoS.
Cmac, you are a trip. Great work yesterday by you and big bro’.
Tim Kaine seemed to be someone with such a bright political future. He was afflicted by really bad timing and now he is stuck as poster boy for the sinking ship. Well, I think we are going to have some fun here with Tim Kaine in the coming months. Good find, Linda.
Hannity had an interesting segment last night, Frank Lutz was on with a group of Virginia voters. They indicated the primary reason they voted for McDonnell was jobs, the secondary reason, the economy. Sorry spinners, but jobs and the economy are not local issues. Virginia has not been hit as hard as other states with job loss, and if the Dems were soundly defeated here over jobs, what’s it going to be like for them in states with 10%+ unemployment ?
The commonly held belief is that jobs and the economy are strong issues for the Dems, but it would appear this myth has been busted without Jamie and Adam’s help. This is what I view as the Dems biggest loss in the VA races.
Believe the NJ victory covered the issues of out of control taxation. A tip of the hat to Garden State voters.
I suspect Kaine will be stepping down from the DNC after getting his butt kicked in his own backyard. If not, then they are in serious denial.
Thanks Virginia, for keeping union influence the hell out of here…
I just did a quick count — in addidtion to all of our local delegats, we now have 59 Republican in the house of delegates. Shame the other 41 got away. Can we call VA RED again?
I think we have 21 Republican Senators. It looks the GOP has a majority in both houses? How red is that?
The good news is Stevens Miller doesn’t have to worry about the statues in Richmond scaring him with their fake guns.
So I guess Miller’s loss means he will get his stench out of our district ?
Sorry Dulles, our gain appears to be your loss. We can send you a case of air fresheners if that’ll help..
Pretty damn red jacob..
Dans, he was already here, and that’s right where he should stay. He’s already GOT a job, and it’s damn time he started doing it for the whole district instead of the few who were helping him try to climb.
Barbara,
The only left to do is wait and pick Miller off in 2 years. He will have a record with which we can hang him from any tree. The work ahead will be to keep up a steady drumbeat on ol’ Stevie Wonder.
jacob,
I would tend to believe that Miller already has hung himself with this last escapade. Not finishing his term in office has to resonate poorly with his constituents.
You are correct though, there is still work to do, and at all levels. Politics is like chess, with one exception, in chess the game ends at checkmate.
In politics, this is where it resumes..
As cmac said above, we should hit the boozer one night..
Thurs ? Fri ? Tues ?
Even though I think it will be easy to let Miller hang himself politically, the R’s still need to find a good candidate to run against him. After getting Miller, I think the Dulles District will want better than the “any warm body will do” theory that seemed to prevail with many independents and republicans who voted to replace Snow. I know many people who didn’t vote FOR Miller, they voted to REPLACE Snow.
Guess all those angry liberals are going to have to stay angry for yet another year. What is it, going on 10 now?
Dan, Friday works pretty good for me after about 7 or so. Next week I have more adventures to go on so it’s not so good.
Joe, cmac, jack, jacob, ACT, G, HE :
Friday, 7:30 O’Fs ?
Talk politics, guns, upcoming Dallas v Redskins, and the end of life on earth ?
ACJ, Dulles will be divided before 2011. It should have been divided before 07.
Miller, if he stays in the house he owns in Broadlands, will be running in a very different district if he runs at all.
Had he won in the 86th, or had he resigned for whatever reason, those jockeying for the seat were all from down here, some even scarier than Miller.
Start looking at redistricting, no matter where you live.
We have eight districts, and we don’t necessarily get to add a couple.
I have heard some talk of an attempt to combine Sterling and Sugarland Run in the next go-round, and there is always the jockeying for creative rural districts.
Depending on how Dulles is divided, Broad Run may end up surrounding part of Leesburg instead of Catoctin.
Who knows?
But for fun (and some really good scares) look up the plans that were reviewed before the last redistricting.
“Creative” is a charitable description for some.
Joe, cmac, jack, jacob, ACT, G, HE :
Can we invite David Poisson ? he doesn’t have anything to do now.
Joe,
“Praise God”
Sheeez, I didn’t know God had anything to do with Virginia politics.
Nor, apparently, do you know that I am not Joe. Nevertheless, both are true.
“Can we invite David Poisson”
Only if he buys the first three rounds G. After that, we won’t give a damn who is there…
I’ll be there, looking forward to it
50/50 chance I can make it Friday. I’ll know Fri pm.
Poisson can go to hell.
The only bad news is that Stevens Miller will be on the BOS for another 2 years.
I can see the Loudoun Independent headline now: “Novatownhall Blog Arrested in DUI Sweep.” Barring that, please take the advice of Neighborhood Watch and do not leave anything of value in those vehicles abandoned overnight in the O’F parking lot. The “smash-and-grab” guys are still out there in spades.
Wolv, you should come by to keep us out of trouble..
All,
I am up for a beer, but not Friday.
Which liberals are angry Joe? Many of us are delighted with the results. BarbaraM, are you sure you’re not through with him? All that talk of creative redistricting your supervisor to another district makes me wonder.
You’re not one of the angry liberal, Barb, you are one of the delightful ones.
Wolv, that is excellent advice. Wish this area had any kind of taxi service that comes in less than an hour.
Though Obama certainly captures the title on the national level, the biggest loserin yesterday’s election on the local level is . . . envelope please . . . the Loudoun Independent. In running a filthy story that even the Post wouldn’t touch, it debased itself to a schocking new low. And now with Tag having conquered the 32nd despite those wretched allegations, the “other LI” has shown that it not only has no class, but no relevance either.
BarbaraN, I doubt Miller’s community and mine will end up in the same district.
Broadlands is part of the Ashburn planning area, tucked between 659 and the loop of the Greenway east of Belmont Ridge where it hooks south for a bit.
I am all the way south of the airport nearly to the Fairfax border.
Creative is how I charitably remember some of the plans that tried to keep three rural seats last time, one of which had Catoctin coming all the way along the river and taking half of Cascades, and one of which had the eastern preccint of South Riding connected to Sterling by the federal land of Dulles airport.
Geographically, I’m pretty sure that unless Miller moves again, we won’t end up in the same place.
And Dulles WILL divide–it technically had enough population/registered voters to do so in 07.
>Friday, 7:30 O’Fs ?
It is now Thursday..
