Joe,

Btw, it was quite amusing that second tier SEC teams spanked the ACC division champs.

I too will be catching some serious couch time during the SEC championship. Should be a heck of a game.

Sooooo, if the County can't host displays of beliefs that defy scientific explanation and are backed only by faith, does that mean they have to get rid of all the "stop man-made global warming" stuff in the Government Center lobby?

Dans, I firmly believe the government is in violation of the establishment clause at every level, because we DO have a state religion: Environmentalism.

When, oh when will someone bring suit here and get the same result as the British High Court?

All I want for Christmas is . . .

Barbara,

There are many who should actually read Jefferson's letter to the Danbury Baptists to understand the complete message, not just snippets to support a particular political position.

Seems as though LoCo is promoting the establishment of secularism with this decision. Also seems to be just one more case where the Democrats site the Constitution only when it suits their agenda.

HE,

There are many non-Christians that celebrate the Christmas holiday. How to put Christmas back in the store, simple, let the retailers know that you have Christmas dollars to spend, not holiday dollars. If you want my Christmas dollars, you better offer me Christmas merchandise, not holiday merchandise.

My books are packed away, so I can't reference this as I would like.

Dennis Prager wrote a chapter once where he displayed his feelings about Christmas and being Jewish, I believe the book was titled, "Think a Second Time."

It was a very moving piece about how his father used to take the family to all of the Christmas displays and point out the beauty and differences in Christianity and Judaism.

He wrote about how they as a family looked forward and enjoyed the differences in religion and at the same time they grew.

No one wants to enjoy anything anymore.

Another sign of the times, don't insult anyone who isn't Christian. Little by little They are chipping away any and every hint of Christianity, another foundation that this country was built upon.

Over the past several years, major retailers, etc. (including the white house) ceased using, Merry Christmas and replaced it with, "Happy Holidays."

Remember, They also want "In God We Trust," removed from our money and government buildings.

On the hand, many would argue about the separation of church and state even though this country was founded based on freedom of religion. The founders knew that religion could not influence government or vice versa. However, the founders felt that God was an important aspect in each.

I could go on, but the point is that They are erasing and stripping the face of this country as it has been known and replacing it with a obedient generic society that no longer displays outrage or stand up for their rights. Not only are we having our freedoms diminish and our language diluted we are losing our country, culture and way of life.

The question is: who are They, because They are who you need to fear? We are heading for where we would have been already if WWII had not occurred.

Dans, it seems the standard censor's interpretation of the clause is that ANY expression on public property, even an inclusive display, is a violation.

I agree that allowing one set of beliefs of "freedom from" to trump everyone else's "freedom to" is censorship, if the "freedom to" is not placing any burden on others than to have to look at it if their eyes are pointed that way. Is there something hateful about a tree or a menorah that is unfit for public display?

Perhaps those who think any display infringes on their freedom from could regard it as a public exercise in tolerance, that wonderful public virtue?

The establishment clause has nothing to do with Loudoun County. Simply put, this is simply some exercising censorship over others..

I don't know what to think about that one, Marjorie.

In some ways the County is bleeding-edge on policy, so maybe they are stepping into line with other places that have sterilized their public face.

On the other hand, Loudoun reveres it's traditions, and as long as the public displays don't exclude or slur anyone's beliefs, what is the harm in using public places for public expression?

Lots of people way overinterpret the establishment clause, and who knows, maybe the atheists pointed out that ANY display is counter to their opinion.

Any comments or thoughts? NO Christmas displays in Leesberg Court House/ Loudoun County

Nativity, Other Displays Prohibited On Courthouse Grounds

A new policy set into motion by the Facilities and Grounds Committee of the Loudoun County Courthouse now prohibits displays on the courthouse grounds. This means no more Christmas trees, nativity scenes or any other holiday displays, something that has left some local residents in despair.

Wolv, I ended up shopping and putting up Christmas lights so did not have a chance to delve into the farther reaches of what was on today. But yes, I will be rooting for Navy.
