  1. Barbara Munsey says:

Joe, deck looks like ours. We have a small roof-glacier above the back door that has (I hope) now ceased calving off onto the step.

I have made many puppy-digs round the clock to keep back door path out available.

Our dog is a bit bigger, with snowshoe feet (male cocker, about 20″ at shoulder, about 30 lbs, built like a butcher block table).

He got brave today and tried to plow his own path across the yard to see a friend on the side block, and had to rest then swim back to the cleared area.

If he stands on tiptoe and stretches, he can get his nose and paws up over the edge of the drift where I started cutting with the shovel–looks like he’s after bacon on the kitchen island.

  2. Lovisa says:

Daughter and I are dogsitting this weekend; a medium high, shorthaired mutt. I’ve never seen an animal enjoy snow like this one. She kept leaping like a deer in the soft drifts and didn’t want to quit.

Believe there’s about a meter of snow in my neighborhood. Plow just came through – ergo –
the drive way is closed off. Friendly neighbors are out helping each other. Snow seems to bring out the best in people (as long as they don’t have to drive).

  3. Cathymac says:

I am sending you a picture of our dog in the snow – he loved it! He is a border collie and had wide open run in all directions due to no cars – he went bananas.

    What is your dogs name?

  4. Wolverine says:

We’ve got an old dog. Mrs. Wolverine let him out twice last night with a snow shovel to try to keep a bit ahead of the storm. This morning, the old dog took one look at the drifts and said: “Hmmph…wonder what’s on the blogs today.”

Actually, he’s an old seadog…remembers the blue Pacific with palm trees waving in the gentle breeze, the golden sands, the glorious sunsets…hahahahaha!

  5. Jack says:

Well, we shoveled out a bit of the porch for our dog, too. So she buried her doggie-treat in the snow.

  6. Had Enough says:

Hmm, I can’t see the photos even if I refresh.

My poor old 90 pound doggie went to doggie heaven, he was almost 18.

He loved the snow, he liked to lay high up on a snow mound, run with his nose in the snow or roll in it.

  7. Linda B says:

CMac, that’s Demitria, aka D, Little D, Puppy. ACT and his wife call her Killer, Rat Dog, Baby Girl or BG. In other words, she’ll answer to just about anything, especially if she senses there might be food involved.

HE, sorry to hear about your pup, though it sounds like he had a good, long run.

  8. jacob says:

I remember my dog in the snow. 100lb German Shepherd, work lines. He loved it. I loved it. Would through a ball for him. It was a snow ball. He would pounce on the hole the snow ball made in the snow, look around and I would suddenly have the ball. He would give me this look. “I know you are up to something, but I can’t tell what?”

  9. Glad to see we have all made it through the storm!

  10. dans says:

Still have to shovel the end of the drive, imagine the plows will add more tomorrow..

    Man am I sore..

  11. jacob says:

32.4 inches in Dulles, 32 in Leesburg. This is a pile of snow.

  12. Lovisa, this points out the qualitative difference between a big dog and a tiny dog. Big dogs are like kids in the snow; tiny dogs are like people in an avalanche.

We got close to three feet of snow out here in Sterling Park. It has been nice. Probably mostly nice because it happened on a Friday night. It would have been bad and intense if we all had to go to work today.

  13. And thank goodness we did not lose electricity!

  14. Lovettsville Lady says:

Our huge chocolate lab, 105 pds and 13 years old, loves sticking his face in the snow, trying to dig through, and tossing it around. Without a path the snow was too deep for him to get over or through. His older brother, a mere snip of a Black lab at 87 pounds, has no use for it. Tom-dog is the original conservative, he never wants anything to change. Over two feet of snow is definitely a change.

  15. Lovettsville Lady says:

Looks like thousands of homes are still without power in NOVA. That includes my friends, Spike and Julie Williams. After a full day in the cold and dark, they gave up and checked into a hotel. Looks like they won’t get power back until at least Monday. yuck. http://www.dom.com/storm-center/northva.jsp

  16. dans says:

… WINTER STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM NOON TUESDAY TO 7 PM EST WEDNESDAY…

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN STERLING VIRGINIA HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR… WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM NOON TUESDAY TO 7 PM EST WEDNESDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

    * PRECIPITATION TYPE… SNOW.

    * ACCUMULATIONS… 10 TO 20 INCHES.

  17. Cathymac says:

Geez, global warming is a real bitch.

  18. Had Enough says:

I don’t know how much more of this I can take, the driveway is still covered, it wasn’t completely clear before this storm. I can’t imagine another 10+ inches on it.

I guess someone will find us after the crap melts in the Spring.

  19. dans says:

I give up, and am retiring to my bedroom with a case of schnapps. Please let me know when spring is here..

  20. 10 more inches is hard to imagine. It’s a 5 minute walk right now to get around the house to the trash can. Driving is treacherous already, especially with the pedestrians walking in the road, sedans careening around and the bozos exceeding the speed limit with their 4 wheel drive vehicles.

The “case of schnapps” solution sounds good in theory, but I have to work.

  21. dans says:

Thanks for the reminder Joe, forgot about work..

“I give up, and am retiring to my bedroom with a case of schnapps, and my laptop.”

  22. Lovisa says:

“don’t know how much more of this I can take…”. Think Haiti, ER!

  23. Had Enough says:

There’s a ticket waiting for you at the airport.

  24. “Case of schnapps, and my laptop.”

Yes, that’s life in the big city.

  25. Can someone please delete this idiot and email me the ip address? I am on the Blackberry and can’t do it.

  26. jack says:

The idiot’s post has been “unapproved,” and I emailed you the IP address.

  27. Soma cubes. says:
