ARGHH! I wanted to be there!!

This pledge is kind of like the abusive husband promising his wife he won’t beat her anymore. She really, really wants to believe him, but we all know how it is going to turn out.

The Republicans (like the abusive husband) have a very long history of saying one thing over and over again and then doing something very different when foolishly trusted once again. It looks like the voters are going to take the abusers back again this November. Care to take bets on how long it takes the Republicans to do exactly what they have done before? You know they are going to.

The real question is whether this is the last hurrah. Whether voters will actually look to some new third party that may be more reliable than the thoroughly unreliable Republicans.

I know they are counting on us being complete suckers and forgetting what they really are and voting for them again. But there are limits.

The most effective action might be to stay home on election day. Or better yet to show up and write in Barry Goldwater or Ronald Reagan. Then they might get the message that the great dissatisfaction among thinking voters extends to Republicans as well as Democrats.

To give the Republicans a majority in November might be the greatest disaster of all. To withhold our votes from them might finally wake them up and cause them to behave according to their previous, often broken promises. They are playing us and the only way to truly get their attention is to not reward them with our votes. Based on their actions (not their empty words) they don’t deserve our support.

You want a truly conservative party to develop in America? Either a reformed Republican party or a newly created one? Don’t vote Republican this time. Stand down. That is what it will take.

Sitting out is not an option, the stakes are too high.

The Republicans were so-punished in the last election – and the result was GM bailouts, Health Care Reform, Stimulus, etc, etc – they, and we, have been punished enough.

The only people who’d propose what “Dick” proposes are most likely hard-core Democrats who want to suppress turnout on election day. I don’t care what your political philosophy — continuing Democrat control of the House, the Senate, and the Executive is a terrible thing for the country. Not that the Republicans necessarily behaved better when they had such control. But personally, I don’t care what stripe Republican they might be, as long as they can take the reins away from Al Franken, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi.

I expect to hear a lot of what Dick is proposing, which variations like “Don’t bother voting – your candidate will win in a landslide” on election day – it’s all about turnout (and supressing it.)

Which reminds me – you know, we’re all incensed when the Obama administration or our Senators ignore what *we* want – but why do we go out of our way to savage Republicans who actually do what their constituents want?
