Thank you, Cathy…and all of you who continue to think of him. Barbara, there are two bridges named in his honor. He shares that honor with 2nd Lt. Leonard Cowherd, also assigned to Company C, 1st Battalion, 37th Armor Regiment , 1st Armored Division.
One is on Rt. 29 in Brightwood, Va…and the other is inside the Town of Culpeper on 522N heading out of town towards Sperryville.

That’s the major highway. Unless you go on a getaway to beautiful Rappahannoch County via Rt. 522, you won’t pass over the other one. It was dedicated before the Rt. 29 Bridge was.

Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho. Since things have started to drag somewhat on this site, I thought I might wake up you conservative Repub faithful just a bit. You’ve got a real live one who appears to be the likely Dem pick to run against Delgaudio. Name of Alfonso Nevarez. Says he moved into Northern Virginia about five years ago. How long in Sterling Park? Let’s see. His house sold in 2003 and again 2008, so my guess is that he has lived in the Park for all of three years perhaps. Looks like he may have been somewhere in Fairfax before One of those instant experts on the Park and Loudoun County, it would seem. Employee of the AFL-CIO who studies economic trends. Says he got his job through a gal who was at the time the senior political strategist for the AFL-CIO.

But that’s not the best part for you guys. Al, it seems,, is a devotee of that George Soros pet project called MoveOn.org. Hear tell Al went to the New Organizing Institute some time back to learn how to become something called an on-line activist. Admits to being an avid contributor to Daily Kos. Says he plans to rouse local MoveOn activists, as well as Obama for President (OFA) leftovers, to bring the Park into the Dem column at the BOS. (You can see most of this on Daily Kos, 3 Feb 2011.

So, Repubs, looks like you may have a chance to go head to head with, inter alia, elements of MoveOn.org itself. O.K., LCRC, how you gonna handle this battle?

You DO know that a founder of Code Pink has one of the family estates right outside Middleburg, and the Ruckus Society trained there for “direct action” like the Battle in Seattle, right?

Not so much overconfidence, my friends. I have a hunch that this guy will be out there hustling for every vote in a community which has seen a lot of changes just in the past four years. You cannot assume anything these days. I think you are going to have to be on your game more than you may think this time around. There could be a lot of newbie voters here now who have the same limited time connection with the Park and with Loudoun as he does. Moreover, many, many of the previous Delgaudio supporters have decamped for parts West.

And, as we used to say in my old profession, follow the money. I would expect a lot of cash from out of Sterling, out of Loudoun, and out of state, which should be reflected eventually in VPAP. That was the gist of one of this guy’s appeals on Daily Kos — send me money. I think you may have a considerable number of outsiders ponying up the campaign cash to send Delgaudio packing, with the Gay, Green, pro-union, and ultra-liberal themes being primary. No walk in the park, in my opinion. You are going to have to work as hard as he will to get your own voters to come out.

Wolv, even if that guy can hustle, I seriously doubt he can outdo ED in that department. I’m no fan, but he does somehow manage to run an energetic campaign (even putting aside rumors of threats to illegals).

Let me clarify the previous post. Judith Freeman WAS the chief political strategist in the AFL-CIO’s Political Department until she went fulltime at the NOI, where she is now the Executive Director as well as a co-founder.

While poking a bit of fun at him, I wouldn’t underestimate “him”, either – not “him”, personally, but the constellation of support “he” could bring – think of a busload of purple-shirted canvassers going door-to-door, “educating” voters – and what I see as his secret weapon – consider the lists of Obama supporters from ‘08 – now, think of college students, absentee ballots, and ED’s anti-gay remarks. I bet I could collect a 500-1,000 votes for a Pet Rock (or a Gay Pirate) this summer, just tracking them down and convincing them to fill in absentee ballots – why do you think he’s setting up shop at Starbucks? In a district where the winner only needs 2000-3000 votes, depending on turnout, that’ll do.

Why they’d choose someone who’s so far left he probably wears Lenin Underoos I can’t say – any useful person who’d hang a “D” after their name could give ED a run without ever opening their mouths. They’d usually have this guy flattening tires of Republican voter transportation vehicles, not fronting the organization.

And speaking of opening mouths – I’m probably missing the subconscious message it’s supposed to be sending – but who picked that photo of him on his website? You know, the one that could be captioned “Fat man with Obama shirt caught with one hand in bag of Twinkies?” Maybe it was supposed to suggest he was handing out food to needy protesters, or represented the bag of goodies he’s gonna hand out to Sterling Park residents by virtue of his strong connection to Obama (he bought the t-shirt, after all) – but to me, he just looks guilty …

Squid, I also got a chuckle out of that photo. Anyway, you will have noticed that, apart from mention of his AFL-CIO employment, virtually nothing which I have posted here is on his website —- for obvious reasons, I would think. For a guy who claims he was much influenced by his time at NOI, which places much emphasis on the computer in political wars, he seemed not to have realized that his vague website references would be subject to an easy Google search and a fuller outing of his background through his own writings at Daily Kos and elsewhere. It is also quite obvious from Daily Kos and from more local postings that his opening salvo for collecting support and campaign funds is to hit Delgaudio with the Gay issue. Looks to me like that is straight out of the NOI recommended playbook. However, I think that he will soon find out that, as far as priorities go in the Park right now, the Gays are pretty far down on the list.

A vague website reference to having moved to “Northern Virginia” five years ago was a dead giveaway for further investigation of time in residence in the Park. These guys always try to get away with that. Since Dan Lloyd dropped out of this race, the only other opposition to Nevarez for the nomination is a guy name Barry Aliriza. His sleight of hand is even worse. He claims to have lived in the “Sterling area” for over ten years. Easy check to find that he lived in Ashburn until at least mid-2009, if not later, and that he is now in a small rental home in the Park which doubles as his place of business. (Does that remind you of anyone?) Aliriza also tries to make much of the fact that both his kids attended or are attending “Loudoun Public Schools” and played or are playing football there. Easy to have substituted Park View High School, but you never see that. One thing I will say in favor of Alizira, who is of Turkish Cypriot origins. He is Muslim and a member of the Adams Center and is not afraid to come right out and say so on his website. Some refreshing candor there.

The Aliriza candidacy seems to have mystified local Dems because of a relative lack of activity, even though, in my opinion, Aliriza does have a pretty impressive personal background. Looks to me like the Dems are falling in behind Nevarez, including an endorsement by Dan Lloyd, who apparently dropped out for personal and business reasons and is the only one of the trio not susceptible to a “carpetbagger” charge (lived here since 1996 and has a good local business here). Had he stayed in the race, I think Lloyd would probably have beaten out the other two for the nomination. Personally, I think local Dems may now be lining up behind what would have been their second choice in a three-way race.

Well, whatever the case, I think that a fight card of Delgaudio vs Nevarez will be an interesting one to watch. Got a feeling that we are going to see some “walking” in our neighborhood like we have seldom seen before. Why, I might even meet the Doorbell Queen face-to-face and be able tell her what I really think about Stevens without the risk of going into “moderation.” Gotta say, however, that, despite a vast political gulf, I kind of like the Doorbell Queen — cause she’s got spunk and gall and especially stamina. I’ve always admired that in a foe.

Wolverine, in the “personal chef” department, there are some heavy hitting ultra progressive Dem donors in our little corner of heaven who yes, have personal chefs.

In all of their homes.

Some of which have their own private airfields (a permitted “rural economy” use in our rural zoning areas), so lots of people can be flown in. Like chefs.

As always Wolverine, it kind of depends on who’s eating the pizza, and who’s eating the organic heirloom locally grown Thai-fusion tapas, and where they can cast a vote.
