Has Food Lost It’s Appeal?

After a bad bout with pseudo buttered popcorn at the movies on Father’s Day, my youngest daughter decided to send me this link. I was greatly entertained by it and, although I didn’t do research of ALL the statements made for validity, many of them where already well known to me. Really makes you think what we are throwing down our gullet. Kinda like that pseudo butter on the popcorn. Ick!

Makes you wonder if the only food you can semi-trust is wild game you hunt or the road kill along the hyway. Sheesh.

Ugh, speaking of road kill. I was taking my morning walk yesterday and noticed a LCSO cruiser on the sidewalk ahead with a Deputy holding his shotgun. He was looking down into a ravine. A second cruiser came up behind me with his lights flashing (so I moved out of the way) – he parked and was getting out when the first Deputy shot towards the ravine. It scared the shit out of me, but I saw the deer being struck and it was flopping around. I asked the deputy if it had been struck by a car and he confirmed it had. Just as I am saying that another bullet hits the deer and it was still.

I know this happens all the time around here, but it took me by surprise how upsetting it was to see that deer get shot.

Hopefully the deer went to “Hunters for the Hungry” and wasn’t wasted. The sight you really don’t wish to see is the killing of a human. That will always haunt you.

Has the quality and taste of food gone down hill, hell yes.

KFC USED TO BE REALLY GOOD till the government got involved, same goes for Mcdonalds.

Even cooking at home is harder with the quality of products you purchase as well as the cost involved.

Agreed, Marjorie. Just putting specified “things” on the package doesn’t tell you everything about the product–especially the process used to develop the product. Remember the growth hormones and antibiotic that were being used in raising meat content?

I don’t know, Jack. While working a job last year I watched a deer get hit. The contractor and I pulled the deer out of the road. I then went down the street to the High School and told the police officer (FFX CO) about calling the fire dept. He asked me what for and I told him that firefighters like FREE wild game for cooking. Needless to say, no one ever showed up for the 3 days I was there. I don’t know that those depts want to mess with that stuff anymore. Shame.

@ACTivist: When I first moved to Loudoun County one of the first things I noticed was
animals that became road kill ( mainly deer) were picked up rather quickly but as time went on that practiced ended.

Unless the deer is impeeding traffic (most of them are ground into bone meal before that happens), VDOT won’t even get them. That is why the buzzard community has increased so much. I’ve even seen a vulture or two which aren’t even native to the area.
