UPDATE – C’Mon ‘N Ride IT
Ashburn Patch article that has some excellent background on Ken Reid’s position on Metro.
Video at this link of Ken Reid and Attorney Daniel Gray.
We will know very soon if the fiscal conservatives on this Board are what they say they are!
Cmac, that most who disagree with you are ignroant sounds as if they might be some variety of bitter clinger, too. Maybe they just didn’t understand the messaging, in the flyover portions of the county?
See todaysWAPO a lady from Southriding laid out in detail her nighmare experience on Metro yesterday or the day before…….. 5,4,3,2,1…. It did not happen, It was a fabrication, she is really the tax pig posing as a real person.
BTW, Cmac why are you wasting any time arguing with BO. Its is BO for christs sake. Arguing with him is akin to going to a Special Olympics track meet and heckling the runners. Just say to yourself, bless his heart and stop.
You mean the letter to the editor? I’ve had some nightmarish trips on July Fourth too. It is certainly an example of every day on the metro (sarc).
Greg, unlike some, I don’t think “everyone” holds the same position I do, nor that all of those who oppose are some kind of lesser being.
South Riding is a pretty big place–we passed the 25K population mark some time ago. And I believe the proprietary sent a resolution of support. That doesn’t mean every single person here supports/opposes Metro/new road construction/airport expansion/organic vegetables/bunko partries/take your pick.
700,000 riders a day on Metro. 700,000! Puts everything into perspective if you allow it too.
You sound pretty bitter Barb, believe me!
“700,000 riders a day on Metro.”
That’s boardings, isn’t it? That’s a round trip for 350,000 riders.
The core of the DC area needs metro, but it’s really not cost effective to expand it out to the outer burbs. Only a small percentage in this county will ever use it.
Oh come on HFTB be real.
It will soon be a million with more riders entering the system from Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Virginia runs.
We’ll see if those projections come true, BO. The metro may sound like an appealing commuting option to some here in LoCo, but when they experience how long a trip takes, they’ll be back behind the wheel. It could take 2hrs to get to places in downtown DC.
Yeah, all those extra riders who won’t be able to get through that tunnel bottleneck, until we fork over a couple more billion for a new tunnel.
HFTB estimates are 91 minutes not 2 hours. True, we’ll see if that is accurate, but it’s about what we get on the bus now. Oh and if I drive, solo, it’s at least 30 minutes more, plus tolls, plus wear and tear on the car, and plus no HOV. Car is not an option.
…and really do you think vehicle access to DC is going to get better? No chance.
91 minutes is close to 2hrs. Is that a door-to-door estimate? In addition to a long trip while on the train, add in all the time getting to and from the stations, as well as waiting on the platform for a train to arrive (double that if you have to change trains) and the awful delays that occur during rush hour. It sucks.
umm, Cmac, the tp has a new cartoon on his website, shared far and wide on fb, of a lemming jumping off a cliff while simultaneously holding tight the noose around its own neck, and eating a gun, with two other lemmings looking admiringly on, above a caption identifying Reid as “the lemming’s lemming”, and I’m bitter.
Whatever you say.
Barb would have gone absolutely ballistic over Thomas Nast.
No different than the current bus HFTB. Besides now that we are getting Metro you can chose how to traverse into DC. More options which spread out the work load. Good for everyone.
Narrating TPs every move and comment has got to be exhausting. Yep, you sound bitter!
Cmac, I don’t know if there are enough hours in the day to narrate everything–he’s been increasingly frantic.
If I open my fb account and the first five things on the page are the latest Benedict Arnold posts here there and everywhere, it isn’t like I have to make an effort to track it.
That might seem a bit obsessed on his part, and more than a bit bitter.
But I understand. It’s certainly his right to continue to be an ass, yours to say it’s great, and mine to say “this is what didn’t work for you in the first place”.
Apparently there are enough hours, and you get points for giving it your all Barb.
“This constant resort to “polls” baffles me as well. No one in my family, either in the Park or in Ashburn, was ever polled on this — not by phone, not by mail, not by email. In order to register some kind of opinion on the matter”
Wolve, that’s the point. …1100 folks get polled as to whether they’d like Metro. That means that of the 1100, 700 of them liked the idea of Metro. Now, if you trotted out the question as “would you pay $1200 in addition to your current taxload for the Metro” ….it’s obvious to any thinking person that those numbers plummented to below half of the respondents. 33% to be exact, because that’s the percentage of retards that want stuff given to them free….because it’s their “right” for the rest of us to cart their fat asses around.
Monk, the term “retards” is inappropriate in this and most other cases, especially as an insult. Retardation is an infliction that can’t be helped or cured unfortunately. The people you speak of are ignorant or just stupid and those conditions can be fixed (well, you can’t cure stupid either but that is a self-inflicted condition). I really detest the term “retard” so please try and refrain from using it going forward.
I’d be inclined to agree with you on the actual means of the word. Perhaps I should have used idiots, inbeciles or morons….which are all applicable, because they actually denote a diminished capacity in IQ percentiles.
And Ron White says you can get your eyes fixed. You can get your hearing fixed. You can get liposuction for a fat body….but you can’t fix stupid. Stupid is ….forever.
BPM, interesting and creative analysis. Let me rephrase:
McDonnell: idiot, imbecile and moron.
Wolf: idiot, imbecile and moron.
York: idiot, imbecile and moron.
Williams: idiot, imbecile and moron.
Letourneau: idiot, imbecile and moron.
Buona: idiot, imbecile and moron.
Reid: idiot, imbecile and moron. (might be true)
Volpe: half of an idiot, imbecile and moron.
Chamber of Commerce: idiot, imbecile and moron.
Association of Realtors: idiot, imbecile and moron.
Numerous business owners: idiot, imbecile and moron.
80% of the public who commented: idiot, imbecile and moron.
70+% of the county: idiot, imbecile and moron.
No wonder you feel so much smarter than everyone else in this county. Your surrounded by idiots, imbeciles and morons. Guess you can’t fix that.
The tax thing was fixed Monk. Haven’t you been paying attention. You’ll not have to pay for anything out their in the sticks. Don’t be stupid.
re polls: still no addressal of double-sampling rural residents in the UVa/county poll, and no mention of the fact that Ms. Clarke’s survey showed support in the 70s for Metro, which only dropped into the 60s when the question was YES asked if people still supported it even if it meant some taxes. Which may explain why A) Buona was the one that read the results into the record, and B) why polls are very very bad.
There he goes again. If BO can’t get you to actually utter it, he’ll assign it to you anyway. I said none of the above. This hopeful assignment of that trajectory to someone who has never said a word of it is so much like Hollywood making a movie based on facts that they WISH were true, in order to alter the reality they live in.
This is why there is one moron on display in this thread….and it ain’t any of the hopefuls that he mentioned.
