I can’t tell you how many concerts of Deep Purple I saw while overseas. Many of the groups of the 60’s and 70’s had far better reception with the European crowd than here in the States. The time and effort put forth by Deep Purple in concert was astounding. We are talking 3 plus hour concerts with no let up of intensity. I remember one in 1971 at the Circus Krone where it took at least 3 minutes for people to come out of their trance and realize that the song was over. Half the band had walked of stage to get drinks before any applause were heard. That was the uniqueness and power of this bands’ music. Jon Lord was key in it all with the unbelievable sounds and tempo that came from his keyboard. And when the crucible was used, the trance and mesmorization ensued.
I still play them on a regular basis these days, especially on those long night trips to the beach house (wonderful way to stay awake and shorten the time of the trip). He will be missed but never forgotten as long as those albums and CDs are still available.
