I wonder if Lunch Pail Joe gets twinkies in his lunch now that he is VP like he did when he was riding the train to work every day when he was in the Senate, or has Michelle clamped down on hostess products?

No, no, Yank. Plugs is made to stay in the waiting room. What you didn't know is that in his left jacket pocket (you'll notice he always wears his favorite suit........which is his ONLY suit) he keeps a highball glass to listen in. This is the same glass he uses when staying at motels. I think he might have tried to white-mail (black-mail is a racist term) someone sometime but he couldn't recall what was said because he thought his hearing aid also recorded. Problem is, the glass distorts words and when you think he is making "gaffs", he is only reiterating what HE heard thru the glass. He is such a lonely, left out kinda guy.

Reb --- Are you sure that anybody even tells VP Biden any state secrets? I always thought they just gave him a canned speech for the hustings and added a pair of shoes which didn't taste too bad in the mouth.

All of what you point out is either true and/or possible, squiddy. Regardless what may happen down the road, as the issue stands at this time, there are $400 billion in defense cuts scheduled to happen. It doesn't matter if Labor or anyone else "thinks" or "believes" it won't come to that since speculation doesn't count and this will occur AFTER the election. Labor is mandated to have these notices of possible release of employment sent and that would make a big dent in Dem votes in swing states like Va. 3 things must take place at this time: accountability, accountability and accountability. Tax records be damned when issues as important as this are being ignored. It is bad enough that companies are laying off or lost vital technicians and engineers due to the holdup in government contracts. It takes years to hire and bring to speed the necessary people to handle projects like sub, ship and aircraft building. We're already getting behind in defense because of the standing now of contracts. This potential wave of unemployment will fall directly in Obama's lap because of what he has done and what he has said and those people to be affected need to understand that.

btw I have also read that VP Biden regularly tells state secrets to foreign dignitaries behind closed doors on his visits out of CONUS. I hope he can prove that he doesn't. This would look bad on him and Obama!

The only surprising thing is he's not blaming it on the Republicans (who do share responsibility - Boehner was obviously suckered in that deal - the way defense spending was disproportionately at-risk, I had my doubts, no matter what the media said about "who won" - and when the Dems appointed their supercommittee members, it was obvious - Boehner had been had.)

Because this is what he wanted all along, anyway - a massive cutback in US military outlays - and this gets him the political cover to allow it to happen. And, if he wins the election, he'll have a great deal of leverage - to avoid the huge damage to the economy sequestration will cause, Republicans will have to yield on most anything - tax increases, for starters - but no spending cuts, to be sure - we'll see a doubling-down on discretionary spending, as yet more of his constituencies are paid-off.

The sad part about this game of chicken - laying off nearly 2 million middle-class workers will have a catastrophic ripple affect on the economy. And the cuts may be bigger than that - the penalties the government will have to pay in contract termination fees will, in the end, require even larger workforce cuts.

Of course, it's not like the President will use any Executive authority to prevent sequestration, he only uses that power for things like illegal aliens and directing money be spent on labor unions (such as demanding project labor agreements for Federal projects and awarding GM to the UAW and Fiat while ripping off dealerships, non-UAW workers, and bondholders.)

No, if he remains the President, one of two things will happen:

- he'll get a very Good Deal to prevent the Defense cuts, probably giving him tax increases on the "wealthy" and disproportional spending increases in entitlements.

- He'll allow it to happen, then his administration designates will massively intervene in targeting the cuts, to ensure the cuts fall, and don't fall, in the "right" places - that is, protect/reward his political allies - pretty much like he did with the GM Bailout. The result? By this time next year, we'll probably be looking at an official unemployment rate of 11% or more.
