I really didn’t want to do this but I have to be “fair and balanced” for Taser’s sake. It appears that on a bright sunny morning on the busy streets of NYC, a confrontation occurred in front of the Empire State building. It was an issue where a down and out designer felt slighted about his T-shirt creations not being peddled with vigor. With foot traffic so close you couldn’t see daylight between your fingers, the attacker pulled out a handgun from a bag, shot his victim in the head, and then shot him a couple more times while the victim was on the ground. The assailant put his gun away and walked of. No one else was injured and no one tripped over the body and broke their necks. 2 construction workers decided to get involved and hailed 2 of NYPD’s finest from the building. That is when the trouble started.

It appears that NYC finest confronted the perp, who then drew his own gun and pointed it at the officers. The officers then returned fire (STOP! How do you “return fire when nothing was fired AT you?) 16 rounds were fired with only less than half of them (7) hitting their mark. The perp was down and all was right as rain. Oops! The other 9 rounds also hit their marks but it was only innocent marks. You see, from a distance of 8 FEET–let me say that again–8 FEET, in broad daylight, with no one firing at them, these police officers put all kinds of people in danger. I can shoot 3×5 note cards at 8 feet. If I was talking to someone with a blindfold on, they could hit me from 8 feet. 8 FEET! Broad DAYLIGHT! I would be suing Mayor Bloomfield from yesterday!

The military is trained to shoot with the intent on using their skills on hitting people and that is how they train. The police are trained to do the same thing. Civilians train on targets for game, sport and skill. The likelihood that they will have to shoot at a human is small but always unknown. That is not what their training is for. It is not their job. Had the construction workers been armed, they could have stopped the perp. Hell, his gun was holstered and they could have stopped him anyway. Seems that in NYC, it isn’t the illegal guns you need worry about. 8 FEET!!!!!!! Body mass! Are you kidding me?
