It is truly a gift to be an great orator – delivering a soaring speech in wonderful. This is how Obama got into office. Peel the layers of hope and change back and all you have left is 8.3% unemployment, another 5 Trillion in debt, shrinking work force, exploding entitlements and high gas prices.

I don’t need a gifted orator to tell me something is wrong here.

Yes, Martinez was impressive. Does that take anything away from Castro’s great speech? I’m so nice that I can see good on both sides. Castro isn’t a governor though, and I don’t know anything about the finances of San Antonio. I was commenting on the speech.

ALL the Republican governors that spoke had states with
multi-Billion dollar surplus? Really?

Lovisa, hope you enjoyed Susanna Martinez HALF as much. What was spectacular after her rags to riches story was the FACT that she turned a multi-Billion dollar problem in New Mexico into a Multi-BILLION DOLLAR SURPLUS — as did ALL of the Republican Governors who spoke at the RNC.
I saw not ONE moment of fiscal bragging at the DNC. I did see more projection and company talking points of attack with absolutely no facts to back them up.

Julian Castro was SUPERB!!! He and his brother are perfect examples of how far second generation immigrants can go when given a chance. Of course, it takes brains, intelligence, stick-to-it-ness, hard work, etc. etc.

Just like Rubio!!!

As for Mrs Castro’s background / I do not believe you have any idea of what it was like to be a Mexican immigrant i California at the time she was active. They had to unite to get any rights whatever. Remember the farm workers who were used and abused in a way that would not be allowed today. Thanks to people with courage like Mrs. Castro and Cesar Chavez, the situation has improved.

Mayor Julian Castro of San Antonio, who will be giving the keynote address tonight, is, according to some, the next Obama. But while Obama’s radicalism may have escaped the notice of the DNC in 2004, Castro’s views are bit more transparent.

Indeed, he, along with his twin, Joaquin, currently running for Congress, learned their politics on their mother’s knee and in the streets of San Antonio. Their mother, Rosie helped found a radical, anti-white, socialist Chicano party called La Raza Unida (literally “The Race United”) that sought to create a separate country — Aztlan — in the Southwest.

Today she helps manage her sons’ political careers, after a storied career of her own as a community activist and a stint as San Antonio Housing Authority ombudsman.

Far from denouncing his mother’s controversial politics, Castro sees them as his inspiration. As a student at Stanford Castro penned an essay for Writing for Change: A Community Reader (1994) in which he praised his mother’s accomplishments and cited them as an inspiration for his own future political involvement.
