I have to stuff my treasures around my kids "possessions". When I move from here, I will just make a phone call and tell them "their" things are in the driveway, blocking the new owners! I tied doing that to my parents but it didn't last long. Since they died I now have much of "their" things incorporated into the household. I tell ya Yank, you get it coming or going and it is funny when I think about it. Such is the business of life.

Hah, Reb. Let me tell you a tale. I had a young son who came home one day to tell us that Mr. X down the street was moving and that he was giving away all kinds of neat stuff. While I was at work or not looking, my basement suddenly became a mini-dumpster --- or maybe a small museum. Well, the kid eventually got distracted by sports, girls, and growing up, and his parents were able to get rid of some of those museum pieces here and there. But not all. And when that boy finally packed up and began his own life, his dad asked him to be sure to take that "collection: of his with him. "Heck, Dad, I don't have room for all that junk!"

Only to the weak minded, Taser. Balance is the essence that keeps you from being ejected by Mama. Hence why so many things that I obtain don't hang around my homestead but are given where needed. Distribution of wealth or charity by its own terms. Keeps MY money in MY pocket (except when those darn bell ringers start ringing).

Twice a year general trash pick-up in my hometown has given me a desk for my grandkid, several patio chairs, inumerable flowerpots, stuff I've been able to give to local thrift shop. Trikes and bikes of different sizes...
It never ceases to amaze, me the stuff people toss out.

Did Michelle really say Barrack was a dumpster diver? I didn't watch last night.

My neighbor picks through everyone's trash on trash days. He is an elderly gentleman that lives with his daughter, her husband and their kids. There seems to be a battle going on over there as much of what is pulled out of the trash is back on the curb the next week.

But I don't doubt that what Act describes is true, repairable items can be found and donated - one man's trash is indeed another man's treasure. However, I am very mindful - especially after watching (too many) episodes of "Hoarding: Buried Alive".

The amount of food & items dumped into trash cans behind a grocery store is well a gold mine for people on a budget. In a lot of California cities they have trash days where one could put out any amount of trash 3x a year and it would all be picked up.

Busy busy days for collectors, if only they would clean up after going though it all.

The stigma behind the trash can surfing is long gone but the personal shame one can feel for doing so is still alive and well.
