The left will believe this racist when he says it was all a joke. Others aren’t laughing and see it as more division and segregation brought on by the “black community” as liberals tend to correct me. Black here would be radicals, not those lame, Uncle Tom negroes. Someone please tell me that these racists have not infected the American culture and the Negro community. Last I knew, slavery was banned in the US and ain’t never coming back….unless the government inflicts it upon all citizens. And this is another one of those “reverends”. These people tend to disregard GOD’s word and replace them with their own ideals. Nice.

This election marks the end of WASP. Obama is not white and Romney is not Protestant. both V.P. nominees are Catholic and the Supreme Court is already overwhelmingly Catholic although the divisions between social justice versus natural law keeps the left/right balance. The shining city on the hill motif is in the trash bin of history. God has abandoned Social conservatives because they have abandoned His gospel.

It seems to me that the mainline protestant churches have abandoned the Gospel. The Catholic Church is socially conservative, even if Biden and Pelosi claim to be Catholics.

And 0bama is more White than he is Black. His father was, I believe, 3/4 Semitic and 1/4 sub-Saharan African. What is even more interesting, though, is that President 0bama is also a descendant of America’s first slave — through his White mother.

Oh, and LDS is an offshoot of the Protestants. The Episcopal and Methodist churches (accounting for fifteen of our Presidents) are descended from the Church of England, which is NOT Protestant.

GOD has abandoned social conservatives? I guess he only backs liberal conservatives, atheists and agnostics now. GOD NEVER abandons man but also lets man use free will. Sorry, Jacob, but the Church of England was NOT part of the Protestant Reformation. It broke off because Henry VIII wanted a divorce. Nothing more. It is no more Protestant than the Orthodox Churches are.

Jack, The split was in protest over the Roman Catholic Church’s stance on divorce. The fact that it was primarily Henry VIII’s protest does not make it less of a protest. The protest was different than the Lutheran movements, which was about money used to absolve sin. The Reformed movement’s protest which was as much about money as it was about a Priest being barred from marriage, Presbyters = Elders = Pastors according to Calvin.

The term “Protestant” refers to churches that came out of the Protestant Reformation. The Church of England did not. Now, whose father-in-law is an Episcopal Priest? Mine is. Who grew up in the Episcopal Church? I did.

With the greatest of respect for your father in law, and your upbringing, your argument is in effect,

“It is so, because I said so.”

This argument, for obvious reasons, does not garner the same degree of respect as the earlier two items. To wit:

If asked if we Anglicans are Protestant or Catholic some will say: “We are Catholic, but not Roman–we are not Protestants.” This is simplistic and historically erroneous, and any layperson with an interest in reading would soon find very Catholic sounding Churchmen of the 16th and 17th centuries embracing the term Protestant.

To claim that the English Church became Protestant in ritual is laughable. Aside from the adoption of English instead of Latin, the Mass is essentially the same. It became more so after Vatican II, when the Catholic Church changed the Mass to lingua polpuli.

Henry VIII — after creating the Church of England — opposed Protestantism and tried Protestants as heretics. Protestants also opposed the Church of England.

The reasons the Church of England was established are far removed from the reasons the Protestants split from the Catholic Church.

Notice the first citation: “under Edward VI”, after Henry was gone things did change old bean. Telling me Henry was born a Roman Catholic (as another for instance) is also besides the point.

Lutherans also follow a liturgy, similar to the Roman Catholics. The Lutheran mass is also essentially the same as the RC one. Given your logic are you saying Lutherans are not protestants either?

Can you cite something other than your opinion? I am citing clergymen who are Anglican. You are not are still just offering an opinion based on observation. Correct observation, but you are missing something.

Exactly, jacob, it was a question of AUTHORITY, not DOCTRINE, for which Henry VIII created the Church of England. For the Protestants, it was a matter of DOCTRINE. Luther did not want to split the Catholic Church, nor did he wish for the authority of the Pope. He wanted to REFORM the Catholic Church — hence the term “Reformation.”
