Browsing Posts in Campaign 2009

As we come to the end of the campaign for the LCRC Chair, I am asking people to consider what my esteemed compatroit Greg Stone has said. It is about leadership. Mr Stone it absolutely correct. We need the best possible leadership for the upcoming campaigns. We are dealing with a majority of Democrats and Independents in the BOS in 2011. We will need to contend with recruiting potential candidates for these seats. This challenge comes with the large pool of volunteers that will be needed. The new candidates will need help from our LCRC, and for this the GOP in LC will need a plan. Mark Sell has the vision and the plan in place to lead us going forward …

Recruiting the right candidates–
Candidates who know how to create jobs, meet a payroll, and keep a budget!

Raising Money to support those candidates–
Systematically leverage our revived and energized Republican base here in Loudoun to widen, deepen, and diversify our fundraising pool.

Resource state-of-the-art campaigns–
with world-class websites, research, and polling.

Reach Loudoun–
We are not going to give up a single group, demographic or individual voter to our opposition but will reach out to the independents, moderate Democrats, and minority groups who share our values.

Roasting the current Democrat/Independent Majority on the Board of Supervisors–
and their job-wrecking, business-busting, tax-and-spend-and-tax-some-more policies that are leading Loudoun tiptoeing down the road to fiscal ruin.

Please take some time to read the plan and vist Mark’s website: http://www.sell4chairman.com/

You will see that Mark has the plan the vision and an understanding of the local scene here in Loudoun that will lead to the ouster of the big spenders in 2011.

Mark Sell, candidate for Chairman of the Loudoun County Republican Committee, yesterday released the following statement from Kyle Kunkler, the Eastern Loudoun RPV Victory Field Director in 2009:

I consider Mark to be an instrumental part of the GOP 2009 victory in Loudoun. Mark Sell’s ability to recruit and coordinate volunteer activities was essential. Throughout the campaign season, Mark came through and was able to motivate volunteers time and time again to come out and support our Republican ticket.

Mark was involved in virtually every aspect of the grassroots campaign in Loudoun from door to door events to the staffing of ‘Back-to-School-Night’ events for half of the county to his participation in various festivals, fairs, parades and community events. Mark brought people to these events, and participated, standing shoulder to shoulder with the volunteers that he so frequently was able to motivate into action. Mark also participated in phonebanking, the 72-Hour Task Force, and Election Day Operations. No job is beneath Mark, he knows that in order to lead one must be willing and able to do the grunt work needed to win an election.

Mark Sell always had a can-do attitude, and is ready to do whatever is needed to help a campaign. With his long background of activism in the local Party, Mark understands the nuts and bolts of what it takes to win the ground war. I wholeheartedly endorse his candidacy for Chairman of the Loudoun County Republican Party.

Klye was the Virginia Republican Party’s coordinator for eastern Loudoun. He lead the victory team. He oversaw the day to day trench warfare of the political campaign here in eastern Loudoun. The guy knows who brought the goods to the table. Mark Sell kept a steady stream of volunteers coming through the door. Volunteers are the life’s blood of a political campaign, especially at the local county level. The ability to put boots on the ground is called leadership.

It was this kind of leadership that helped make last falls campaign the success that it was. Politics is about advancing an ideology at the balot box. The Republican Party’s stated ideology is conservative. We all are conservatives here in Loudoun GOP. Some conservatives, like Mark, have been giving voice to conservatism for years in the public square. This involves, among other things, running campaigns. With this experience, Mark is able to consistently bring people to events. This is how campaigns are won. This is why Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli endorsed Mark for our Chairman. This is why the 2009 Victory Campaign in Loudoun endorses Mark Sell in 2010 — to take back the BOS in 2011!

Today Loudoun County is at a crossroads. The people need to make a choice, either they can take back control of their government, or, they can leave it to the fiscally challenged Board of Supervisors (BOS) dominated by liberal Democrats. If the choice is to take back control, then Mark Sell is the man for this job. As a life long Republican Mark has been a campaign volunteer, Precinct Captain, Magisterial District Chair and Party Treasurer. Mark has paid his dues and learned the ropes in multiple campaigns. Mark has learned what needs to be done on the ground, in the trenches, to win elections. In the last election Mark was a deputy for Ken Cuccinelli in his successful campaign to become our Attorney General. The McDonnell-Bolling-Cuccinelli team ran as unapologetic conservatives, and won in a landslide.

Mark plan is to field a full suite of candidates, who will build on this momentum. Candidates who will remember their conservative roots, and that their duty is to the people. Candidates who are also unapologetic about their conservatism. Candidates who know that a government that governs well, governs least. Smaller government demands that the spending must be cut. Mark plan is to field a full slate of fiscal conservatives to oust the big spenders on the BOS in 2011, and engage every constituency in our county. This will require seasoned leadership. It is for this reason I support Mark Sell for Chairman of the Loudoun County Republican Party and ask you to come out and vote him on March 6th, 2010.

We all have seen our party lose its way in this last decade. The spending excesses of our Republican congress, and our local county elected officials resulted in a Republican Party as a small minority. The party deserved what it got. The party must never again forget its fiscal conservative roots. Small government is good government. If we do not reduce spending we cannot reduce taxes without running even higher deficits. Runaway government spending is the root of our economic woes. Mark will find candidates who understand this, and more importantly, will not forget this.

As a long time grass roots activist in Loudoun County, Mark has worked hard to stop the Meals Tax, the increases in the Sales Tax and on other liberal boondoggles, giving voice to our shared Republican and conservative ideals in the public square speaking before our BOS on many occasions, so that the people of Loudoun will not be saddled with even higher taxes. The People of Loudoun deserve better than what they have been burdened with in past years. Loudoun has the highest tax rate of any county in VA. Loudoun even has highest taxes of any county in the South. We can and must do better. To do so, we must win the BOS. To do that we need a leader who has been there, in good times and in bad, and who knows the ropes. Mark Sell will not need on the job training. He will be ready to lead from day one — Mark knows Loudoun.

One more time with feeling: Thank you Dede!! You liberal piece of trash. You were embraced by the party for 20 years, and when you suffer your first real setback you came out for the Democrat in the 11th hour.

Owens was brought into the Democrat fold real quick.  He lied on the campaign trail, and the idiot moderates, like Charlie Brown trying to kick the football Lucy is holding, voted for the Democrat expecting him to keep his promise.   Rats!  Owens said he would not support a public option, well he voted for it.   He broke that and three other promises the first day in office.  Where is that football now Charlie?  From the Gouverneur Times:

Many feel that it was unlikely Mr. Owens would have won those crucial few thousand votes if the voting public was aware of his intent with regard to the Health Care bill.  The majority of residents in this district do not support the Health Reform bill as it is now written and many feel like they’ve become victims of a fraud perpetrated by their chosen candidate.

Ya think?  Message to the great pho-intellectuals of the middle — read some history!  Democrats migrate leftward in a flash once they reach Washington.  Wishing it were otherwise will not make it so, accept reality.  Read up on economics and find out that there are NO moderate economic theories.  Either you are a socialist central planner, or you allow the market to make choices.  Mixing the two always leads to the former squeezing out the later. Always.  Wishing it were otherwise, will not make it so.

Let this be a lesson to Newt, Owens was the 219th vote. Owen’s win gave Pelosi enough ammunition to finish off conservatism in the US. Public Healthcare is the holy grail for liberals. Why, because historically it causes the country to drift ever leftward.  Gingrich has mud on his face for supporting Dede, and 2012 will be harder for him.

Note to Republican leadership, try to at least run a moderate.  Running leftists makes it difficult for the conservatives (who are 3/4’s of the party) to vote for the candidates you field.  Scozzafava not only threw her support behind Owen, she was more liberal.    I guess it would be more embarrassing if she voted for the bill, but, there was another option.  The primary reason for a political party is to espouse a philosophy in the political arena, and bring this philosophy to life in legislation.  Picking candidates that are hostile to this philosophy makes no sense.

This is the US, not France, not England. We are made of sterner stuff. I hope conservatives do not go quietly into the night.  This vote today will seal the fate of the Democrat party in 2010.  But if the Republicans cannot hold on till then, or, overturn Obamacare, we as a nation are sunk.

Just a low rez video of Tag’s victory speech last night at The Dock in Lansdowne; starts about 10 min. before, Tag giving an update on current returns as he did throughout the evening, then skips to right when the race was called.

Nice touch to have former delegate Dick Black introduce him. Black lost this House of Delegates seat to Democrat David Poisson in 2005, the beginning of a pretty downcast 4-year era for Loudoun County Republicans, and seeing Dick on the stage here in 2009 neatly symbolizes the end of the negative era.

The Speaker of the house, Nancy Pelosi,  claims that last night was a win for Democrats.  Really!? According to the Politico:

“From our perspective, we won last night,” the California Democrat told reporters during a Wednesday photo op.

Nancy gives the term deluded a whole new dimension.  Someone should ask Deeds, and Corzine about the raging success they experience last night.  Not to mention Poisson, Miller, and the rest of the sordid lot here in VA.

The denial of the obvious is going to cause history to repeat itself, in a big way.  The Democrats think that passing the disastrous health care will save them.  It won’t.  The end result will be a tsunami of voters coming to the polls to destroy the party that socialized our medical health care.  It will make 1994 look like a walk in the park.   So please Nancy, keep claiming the Democrats won last night.  Please.

Not only did the Republicans sweep Virginia, gaining a seat or two in the House of Delegates along the way, but they took the governorship of New Jersey, and gay marriage was defeated in Maine.  The leftists have been spanked.  Praise God!

Thank you, Dede Scozzafava.  You have made what was oh so obvious, even more obvious.  Before the election, Dede was the Republican who was picked by the 11 county chairmen in the New York’s 23rd Congressional District, and by the RNC, to represent this section of the State in the House of Representatives.  What a most excellent choice you were.  Markos Moulitsas, founder of the dailyKOS, called Ms. Scozzafava “actually the most liberal candidate in the race.”  Do not listen to the lies of MSM, Dede is not a moderate. Scozzafava is left of moderate; but most of all, Dede is a Republican.  Dede is not a RINO, Dede is a Republican.  Dede is a leftist and Dede is a Republican.

People who cry RINO whenever they see a liberal with the Republican label get it all wrong.  The big tent has room for liberals.  From Applied Semantics a conservative blog:

I want to start poaching some RINO GOP comittee chairs in the the NY 23rd congressional district.

This is the wrong attitude.  Yes, according to Gallup, the Republican Party consists of 73% conservatives, 24% moderates and 3% liberals.  Given the overwhelming number of conservatives in the party, one would imagine the party face would be conservative, but no matter.  The party leadership handpicked Dede, and Dede is a Republican.

Now, according to Gallup, 40% of the country is conservative, but half of that group are not Republican.  So why did the party establishment pick someone from the tiny liberal wing of the party?  Why does  the party leadership see fit to ignore 73% of the party, a.k.a. the conservative wing?  Furthermore, why does the party ignore the conservative 20% of the American electorate that is outside the party — a segment of the populace equal in number to all the liberals?  Why does the party pursue the minority of  leftists instead of the plurality of conservatives?

Conservatives want to uphold Federalism, and the Constitution.  Why do self proclaimed progressives such as McCain and Graham find this so distasteful?  Far down in popularity from its days under Reagan and the revolution in 1994, could someone explain how a party that now enjoys a 25% approval rate — refuse to realize it is on the wrong path?

Lets take a look at Dede, Republican, great gal — she is:

1. A supporter of abortion rights
2. A supporter of tax hikes
3. A supporter of the Obama porkulus (stimulus)
4. A supporter of gay marriage
5. A supporter of the public medical option
6. A supporter of Card Check  (ending the secret ballot)

There are many blue dog Democrats I would find more in common with than this Republican.  Thank goodness she is not a supporter of gun control.  At least, according to Ms. Scozzafava, we all are still free to go blow our brains out.  Dede is a poster child for closed primaries, the party leadership may want to consider this thought going into the future, “No more hand picked candidates!!”.

Lets look at who else supported Dede, Republican, hand picked by the local and national Republican establishment: ACORN.  Need I say more?  No.  Really.  ACORN approved of Dede.  The Working Families Party (WPF) also approves.  Who is the WFP?  They are a socialist party splinter whose ‘real solution’ for tax relief regarding property taxes is to increase taxes on the rich.  NY State already has the highest taxes in the nation on wage earners.  Considering the ‘flight of the able’ has already seen a loss of revenue over the past several years in NY, this is just another brain dead leftist idea based on envy and ignorant of the impact of the Laffer curve.  Try something else, WFP, like cutting spending.  You know, live within your means.  It’s quaint, but thrift is the time-tested approach to successful governance.  KOS, ACORN, and the WFP — with Republicans like this, who needs Democrats?

This is the gift the Republican Party leadership gave us?  So revealing.  When the 73% of the party asserted itself and said, “Enough!” Dede showed her true colors.  She withdrew from the race, and, now supports the Democrat!  The moral of the story is that the current leadership of the GOP prefers Democrats to conservatives.  Conservatives have felt this disdain for years, the country club blue bloods put up with Reagan, but they never liked him.  Now they are trying to tell us he was a moderate?  William F. Buckley enthusiastically supported Reagan.  He was indifferent to Bush senior, and hostile towards the shrub, a.k.a. GW.  Buckley gave voice to the conservative wing of American thought in the 1950’s and started the movement.  Buckley knows a conservative when he sees one — Reagan was a conservative.

Reagan Democrats were social conservatives, not fiscal conservatives — and so were considered moderates.  The moderate wing of the public is a hash of both social and fiscal liberals and conservatives.  The country club Republicans are typically fiscally conservative, but are socially liberal and make up a large chunk of the 24% of the party that are self-identified moderates.  This 24% of the Republican party, however, is not large enough to be a viable base upon which a party can win national elections.  Trying to hash out a party platform that will please all of  the 35% of the American Electorate that is self-identified as moderate, is a challenge that up to now has eluded both political parties.

According to the Republican Party leadership, conservatives  are just supposed to vote for the liberal Republican and shut up.  That is why we are in a fight.  Given no voice in the party, half of all conservatives are no longer in the GOP.  Why are conservatives expected to be tolerant , but those who are not conservative are not brow-beaten into being broad minded? Why are the moderates not tolerant of the majority of the party?  Why are liberals intolerant of anyone who is not for the public option, and not criticized for their ideological stance?  Why are only conservatives held to a different standard?

The conservatives in the Republican party share a common ideological ground with much of the half of the nation’s conservatives who are not in the party.  The party can grow in that direction naturally.  How are the liberals in the party going to grow the party?   The Democrat party owns this end of the spectrum, while both parties ignore the conservatives outside the Republican party.  How does the Republican party recruit leftists and hold on to its principals?

The Specter wing of the party, a.k.a. the McCain wing or the Lindsey Graham wing, needs to understand that they are welcome, but they have no business leading the party.  The path of the liberal Republican leads to the same place as a that of the leftist in the Democrat party.   The difference is that the liberal Republican offers the nation a death by 10 thousand cuts.  The Democrat will bring change to this nation far more quickly.  The end result is the same, whether the face of this change be Obama or Scozzafava.

Tomorrow’s elections in Virginia will provide the first official judgment on public assessment of Barack Obama’s presidency. Obama famously won Virginia in 2008 – the first Democrat to do so since the World’s Fair was held in New York – so it will be very interesting to see how the Obama coattails are holding up. Creigh Deeds since yesterday has been running a television commercial on the major networks which consists solely of President Obama vigorously encouraging Virginians to vote for Deeds.

It does not look good for Obama, according to the polls and Virginia Democrats; in fact it looks like Obama is being roundly rejected by Independents, Republicans (of course) and even some Democrats. All three of the Republican statewide contestants are leading in the polls by solid double digits, which is an amazing shift from a year ago.

A Republican sweep in the statewide races accompanied by strong performances by Republicans in the House of Delegates races will confirm that the key change Obama has brought to America is a serious bout of buyer’s remorse.

As a side note, tomorrow’s election will also be a referendum on the Washington Post. The once respected local newspaper has gone to the well to defeat Bob McDonnell (too many links to mention, try googling it). The Post also just recently tried to slime Republican Attorney General Candidate Ken Cuccinelli. If the Republicans in Virginia deliver nearly as impressive a result as the polls suggest will occur, it will reflect very poorly on the newspaper which at one time was a respected institution in the DC area.

A thought just occurred: What does a Washington Post employee learn to say the first day on the job?

Answer: “You want fries with that?”

If McDonnell, Bolling and Cuccinelli, along with many Republican House candidates, sweep to victory tomorrow, the Post will have cemented a reputation for incompetence rivaled only by Barack Obama. It will become, likewise, a justified target of ridicule.

According to the Richmond Times Dispatch: ‘Ken Cuccinelli is favored over Steve Shannon, 46 percent to 32 percent, with 22 percent undecided.   Cuccinelli has doubled his lead from early October.’  In short:

Cuccinelli v. Shannon: +14

This means the 22% undecided would have to break 82% for Shannon in order for him to win;  a near statistical impossibility.  It appears the last minute attacks on Cuccinelli calling him a bigot, are not working.  Cuccinelli has extended his lead since these attacks have begun, and have reached a crescendo the past few days.  Desperation is an ugly thing.

The Democrats have no message this year at all.  Without a George Bush to attack, and blame for everything, they are left without any policy to speak of.  The Democrats have shown themselves for what they are, leftists who claim to be centrists.  Cowardly charlatans who have, with help from MSM, perpetrated a fraud on the American people.

Cuccinelli has been an honest, fearless, and unapologetic conservative voice for years in the VA senate from a liberal district in Fairfax.  He will bring his principals with him to his office and make VA a better place using those very principals as a compass; unlike his opponent he is not afraid to show his true colors before the election is over.

The polling data looks good this Monday morning.  According to Public Policy Polling the three Republican candidates are up today.

Christie v. Corzine: 47 – 41
McDonnell v. Deeds: 56 – 42
Hoffman v. Owens: 51 – 34

It appears that the bloom is off the Rose for Obama, hailed as a moderate during the campaign, he has ruled as a extreme ideological leftist.  His administration took over two auto-companies and handed them over to the unions, overturning 200 years of bankruptcy law in the largest Union pay-off in American history.  Now Obama is trying to take over the medical services industry, with the vocal support of the Democrat party, and the tacit support of MSM.

America is still a center right country as the polls show there are twice as many conservatives as there are leftists.  God willing these polls are indicative of the results for tomorrow’s election.  God willing tomorrow’s elections will be indicative of what the Democrats are in store for next year.

The Republican’s candidates in each case have engaged in a message revolving around issues, be it transportation (VA), spending and lowering taxes (NJ), or the growth and reach of government (NY).  In VA and NJ the Democrats are leveling person attacks on their opponents, or, they are trying to use Obama’s personal popularity (~51%) to win.  The age of George Bush is over – the personal attacks and cult of personality may have lost their potency.

It’s about the role of government, stupid.

UPDATE:
According to the Quinnipiac poll: Christie +2

Loudoun supervisors racists?
Loudoun County Supervisor Stevens Miller (D-Dulles), who is running for the 86th district house of delegates seat, was the catalyst of an odd story in the current edition of the Loudoun Independent newspaper.

During a September 15 “executive session” (closed meeting), Miller apparently accused his fellow supervisors of some degree of bias in the selection process for candidates for the vacant county administrator position. The following day, a report of the accusation was leaked both to a Northern Virginia blog and to Independent reporter Jason Jacks.

The substance of Miller’s strange statements in the Independent story might lead one to conclude that Miller himself was the source of one if not both of the leaks, possibly to ensure his accusation received press coverage.

No one will know the truth about what happened in the executive session or how the proceedings might have been leaked until one of Miller’s fellow supervisors speaks out. But a review of the facts is instructive:

During the Tuesday, September 15 executive session: Miller said something about the hiring process and the final slate of candidates for the county administrator job.

Within hours: Dated September 16 but reported as “today,” so likely after midnight that same evening – a story about Miller’s statement appeared on the Crystal Clear Conservative blog:

Today, in unusual fashion, Loudoun County Supervisor Stevens Miller (D-Dulles) attacks his fellow Loudoun BOS for not having a minority candidate in the final round of recruits for a new county administrator. He referred to other BOS members as being bigots.

Less than 24 hours later: The CCC blog post and quotes from Miller appear in a newspaper story. Though the Independent article is dated “September 17″ on the page, their Website software – Drupal – embeds the actual date each post is begun in the URL.

The story by Jason Jacks was started on “2009-09-16,” the same date as the CCC blog post:

Supervisor Stevens Miller (D-Dulles) is denying claims made online that he called fellow members of the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors “bigots” during a lengthy closed-door meeting in Leesburg Sep. 15…

The press and residents are not permitted at these gatherings, but the Crystal Clear Conservative blog said that Miller verbally “attacked” other supervisors at Tuesday’s meeting for not including a minority among the final candidates for the job. The blog also said that Miller “referred to other BOS members as being bigots.”

“That is absolutely not true,” Miller shot…

Though it’s unclear whom the board has interviewed so far since personnel hirings are confidential, Miller did acknowledge that he has concerns about the process.

“I think we should be looking at a more diverse pool of candidates,” he said.

Miller would not comment on whether he intends to pass along his concerns to any civil rights organizations, such as the NAACP.

Now let’s review the facts.

Within a 24-hour period, Miller’s statement from a private meeting the previous day is reported on both the blog and newspaper Web sites, and in the latter story Miller confirmed the substance of the blog report. Although Miller denied accusing the other supervisors of “bigotry,” he then proceeded to confirm he thought the hiring process potentially merited reporting to organizations that police the public sector for racist policies and actions.

Miller’s statements to the reporter comprised a denial that is not really a denial at all – and the substance of the story contradicts its headline. If one attempts to discern the actual point of the Independent article, it is hard to avoid the conclusion that it’s simply a platform for Miller to publicize the political message begun in the private session the previous day.

The essence of Miller’s message is: The board of supervisors conducted a hiring process which gives indications of racism, and which I publicly denounce.

This brings up the question of how the story leaked so efficiently that it evolved into a newspaper report promoting Miller’s message within 24 hours.

The author of Crystal Clear Conservative wrote to me:

My source, who wishes to be unidentified, did not give any indication that Stevens leaked this out to the press for additional attention.

I believe the CCC author would have no reason to lie to me, and her coverage of Miller is generally very critical, so the possibility she conspired with Miller to get him some PR seems unlikely. But her statement above also is worded such that CCC herself does not deny the ultimate source of the leak could have been Miller.

Jacks, a good reporter with whom I am acquainted, did not respond to a request for comment about the story – which is no surprise since he certainly would not say anything about a confidential source and has no obligation to reveal anything to a small-time local blog anyway. So all we have to go on is the that in a short period of time Jacks found the CCC blog post, got the quotes from Miller and turned it into a news story the substance of which is actually contradictory.

Though a great blog, CCC is not exactly Fox News in terms of public awareness, so it’s notable Jacks found the post and whipped up a story so soon after the private meeting.

But it is strange that a local blog post in itself would have been the genesis for a news story. (A local liberal blogger picked up on this point while entirely missing the substance of the Independent article – either as a result of myopia or plain dishonesty).

All kinds of unattributed statements appear on blogs, and one like in the CCC post seems hardly worthy of news coverage. It’s one a reporter, I would think, in most cases would not bother to make phone calls about, and certainly would not have expected Stevens Miller to have any inclination to comment on.

However, the blog post ACCOMPANIED BY a pointed quote from Stevens Miller, delivered as a package, could be considered raw material for a news report. As a news report, it is bizarre; but applying Occcam’s razor, the simplest solution is that Stevens Miller wanted the CCC blog post to be found so he could use it to get his message out.

For now this is all supposition on my part, but even a cursory review of the events must lead one to conclude it worked out very conveniently for Stevens Miller.

A final interesting issue – and one which I believe will become more interesting in the weeks to come – is the utter silence from all the Democrat and Independent supervisors who now have been publicly accused of bias and possibly privately called bigots.

(I am leaving the two Republican supervisors out of the discussion because a Democrat calling Republicans racists is the quintessential dog-bites-man story, and they are just two votes out of nine in the hiring process).

If Stevens Miller had NOT called the other supervisors bigots, and someone had concocted an out and out lie in the leak to CCC blog, one would think somebody out of the entire board would have spoken up to defend Miller from such potent false claim.

One of the supervisors, a Democrat, told me:

I have decided to be quiet in public about this issue, because we are in the middle of the most important decision this Board will make during our tenure.  As important as many of the other challenges and opportunities we face are, I believe this one will have the greatest impact of all.  We are hiring the top county employee, who will be responsible for wise use of our tax dollars, leadership for all our employees, and stewardship of so much that impacts our lives.  I do not want to do anything to jeopardize the process we are undertaking, and because it is done in executive session, I want to honor the confidentiality and sensitivity of a fair process.

Once we are ready to make a decision and announce it publicly, I would be happy to talk.

This is a very reasonable statement and prudent course of action, and none of the supervisors has any responsibility to reveal jack to a local conservative blogger anyway about what happened in executive session. But it’s also hardly a vigorous defense of Stevens Miller against what would have to be considered a scurrilous false statement conveyed to the CCC blog and reported in the only remaining newspaper serving eastern Loudoun county.

I think the absence of a single syllable of public defense of Stevens Miller from his fellow supervisors, and the fact Miller himself echoed the accusation of bigotry in statements the following day, serve to support the notion that he did in fact call the other supervisors bigots.

If this is the case, it is not surprising the other supervisors – for the most part on the liberal side of the spectrum – are silent. In the liberal playbook, the charge of racism is used to stifle debate. It is the accusation that implies such dreadful moral condemnation that once leveled cannot be refuted. Voices must hush, heads shall bow, and the accuser is declared winner of all arguments.

Most sensible people recognize such shallow argument as the patent nonsense it is, sloganeering rather than thinking. When prominent Democrats attempt to employ the tactic on the national stage, the American public now responds with a collective snort of derision.

But reality apparently has not sunk in here at the local level. Looking across the political landscape in Virginia during this state election season, one has to wonder if many of the Democrat candidates have been fooled into thinking they could ride to victory this November on the same wave which carried so many Democrats to victories in elections from 2006 through 2008.

If Stevens Miller believes he can win Tom Rust’s 86th District seat through racial politics, I would suggest he is attempting to ride a wave which crested earlier this year and became a dank ebb tide over the summer.

The Democrat moment was 11 months but also an eon ago – the eon before Democrats showed what they do when they control the federal government. In the learning process since, Virginians have discovered that much of what they were told prior to the historic 2008 elections was a sham.

Making an incendiary accusation that bigotry could have tainted the hiring process in Loudoun County might have temporarily stunned his fellow supervisors into silence, but in my view it is an act of political grandstanding that voters in the 86th district will recognize as a ploy with no basis in reality.

UPDATE: Full disclosure – I am a Tom Rust supporter, as anyone can tell from the ad in our sidebar. But I am also one of the few area conservatives who seems not to have a reservoir of animus toward Supervisor Miller, and I think I’m one of the few who has never written about him here. From my minor communications with him, I have found Miller to be reasonable for someone on the other side of most issues. Racial politics, however, is in my opinion one of the primary scourges of modern culture, and I will call it out when it arises in my neighborhood.

Just when you though it could get no worse, the disciples of deception have reached a new low in Virginia politics by smearing Republican Candidate, Tag Greason. Democrat Delegate David Poisson, having learned at the knee of his former boss, Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, brings those skills to his race for re-election including how to deal with political rivals.

Slipping in the polls, fresh out of ideas, and with the political wind in his face due to a president sinking in popularity, anchored to a political party more interested in calling it’s fellow citizens names for demanding their voices be heard, David Poisson with the help of the Democrat party of Virginia is forced to employ the “Chicago Way” southern style in order to distract voters while damaging his opponent.

Tag Greason (http://www.vote4tag.com), the Republican candidate for the Thirty Second District delegate seat, has become the latest victim of the Democrat smear machine. John Geddie from the Loudoun Independent received from an anonymous informant information (don’t you just love these cowards) about a false charge brought against Tag Greason (and several others in Tag’s army unit) in December 1996. The alleged incident in August 1994, never occurred, it was officially investigated, found to be without merit or truth, and formally dismissed without prejudice by United States District Court of Western Louisiana. In other words, Tag Greason and the others involved were victims of false accusations by a former colleague.

Tag Greason, a graduate of West Point and Army Officer, served his country with honor. Tag left the service of our nation without as much as a blemish on his service record. I know Tag Greason and his wife Mary Beth; they are both great people working everyday to better the lives of all within their communities. Tag is an experienced businessman seeking election to the House of Delegates for all the right reasons. Tag, Mary Beth, and their children should not have to contend with the scurrilous allegations of Delegate Poisson’s mindless minions. David Poisson should be ashamed that those working on his behalf would stoop so low.

Tag, meet the Chicago Way.
