Loudoun Republicans Win — Loudoun Insider Loses

Mark Sell and Candace Strother both ran excellent campaigns. The campaigns were both polished, organized and motivated. There was a lot of energy expended on this contest. Both of the campaigns put out scads of emails, mailers and made multiple public appearances and speeches. This is a blessing. What we had was a rare chance to vote for someone, as opposed to choosing the lesser of evils by voting against someone. Greg L summed it up perfectly in his post over at BVBL. By all accounts Mark’s speech after the vote tally was announced, was gracious.

The real question is now that the Chairman has been chosen, is he going to be given a chance to lead? Over at TC, LI showed all of us that he is really not worth our time. His hatred for Susanne Volpe is personal, as is his hatred of Mark. It stems from an old feud. A feud whose details most do not know, and frankly do not want to. It is old potatoes. LI is obviously unhinged by this hatred. Some say “He is intense.” He is not intense. Greg Stone is intense. LI on the other hand is small, oh so very, very small. So small that I hope that none take notice of the nonsense we saw on TC, after the tally, on election day. The LCRC’s crazy aunt in the attic got loose, and threw a hissy fit. Nothing to see, move along people. It was designed to cause a rift in our party. I recommend we disappoint LI by not allowing his spew to ignite a fresh round of inter-Republican fighting. Today LI is the Democrat’s best friend.

Some of the calls for unity from the many who agree with LI are dishonest, for they come with demands and give Mark no quarter. “My way or the highway”, is the tune. Glen lead the LCRC as he saw fit. Let Mr. Sell lead as he see’s fit. Give Mark a real chance. To the honest conservatives who supported either Candace or Mark, I say, “Look forward and forget the sordid past.” We cannot afford to dwell on it. The BOS is raising the property taxes at the rate of 1 cent per month. Does anyone want to help LI tear the party down in the light of that? We need to get the budget under control. This demands that we allow our elected chairman the time to set the plan he began to outline during the campaign into motion — a plan that puts a target on the backs of those very board members.

This election was about who is going to lead the campaign against the Democrats. Not who is going to get to pick who is ‘in’ and who is ‘out’ at the LCRC. Does anyone here think that 970 people showed up on a Saturday in March to take part in a popularity contest? Republicans are energized and are looking for leadership that can show the Democrats on the BOS the door in 2011. Mark Sell ran the campaign that brought in 512 people. Candace brought in 458. Guess what? Both of the candidates ran good campaigns. Both candidates demonstrated leadership. We need the teams they both assembled going forward.

The winner has been chosen. Ignore the idiots who are looking to blow up the party. The two candidates ran clean, professional campaigns; this is cause for celebration. We have talent in our committee, behind which we should be able to unify. Actually, we must — it is not an option. Ignore the crazy aunts in the attic. Especially those who are looking to air out our dirty laundry in the public square in front of the Democrats. We will disagree, but can we do it in a civil manner in private? Glen ran the show the past two years without continuous public sniping while he was getting the campaign in gear. Can we all focus on the real enemy?

Leadership And Vision

by jacob
As we come to the end of the campaign for the LCRC Chair, I am asking people to consider what my esteemed compatroit Greg Stone has said. It is about leadership. Mr Stone it absolutely correct. We need the best possible leadership for the upcoming campaigns. We are dealing with a majority of Democrats and Independents in the BOS in 2011. We will need to contend with recruiting potential candidates for these seats. This challenge comes with the large pool of volunteers that will be needed. The new candidates will need help from our LCRC, and for this the GOP in LC will need a plan. Mark Sell has the vision and the plan in place to lead us going forward …

Recruiting the right candidates–
Candidates who know how to create jobs, meet a payroll, and keep a budget!

Raising Money to support those candidates–
Systematically leverage our revived and energized Republican base here in Loudoun to widen, deepen, and diversify our fundraising pool.

Resource state-of-the-art campaigns–
with world-class websites, research, and polling.

Reach Loudoun–
We are not going to give up a single group, demographic or individual voter to our opposition but will reach out to the independents, moderate Democrats, and minority groups who share our values.

Roasting the current Democrat/Independent Majority on the Board of Supervisors–
and their job-wrecking, business-busting, tax-and-spend-and-tax-some-more policies that are leading Loudoun tiptoeing down the road to fiscal ruin.

Please take some time to read the plan and vist Mark’s website: http://www.sell4chairman.com/

You will see that Mark has the plan the vision and an understanding of the local scene here in Loudoun that will lead to the ouster of the big spenders in 2011.

EASTERN LOUDOUN RPV VICTORY FIELD DIRECTOR ENDORSES MARK SELL FOR LOUDOUN COUNTY REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN

Friday, March 5th, 2010

Mark Sell, candidate for Chairman of the Loudoun County Republican Committee, yesterday released the following statement from Kyle Kunkler, the Eastern Loudoun RPV Victory Field Director in 2009:

I consider Mark to be an instrumental part of the GOP 2009 victory in Loudoun. Mark Sell’s ability to recruit and coordinate volunteer activities was essential. Throughout the campaign season, Mark came through and was able to motivate volunteers time and time again to come out and support our Republican ticket.

Mark was involved in virtually every aspect of the grassroots campaign in Loudoun from door to door events to the staffing of ‘Back-to-School-Night’ events for half of the county to his participation in various festivals, fairs, parades and community events. Mark brought people to these events, and participated, standing shoulder to shoulder with the volunteers that he so frequently was able to motivate into action. Mark also participated in phonebanking, the 72-Hour Task Force, and Election Day Operations. No job is beneath Mark, he knows that in order to lead one must be willing and able to do the grunt work needed to win an election.

Mark Sell always had a can-do attitude, and is ready to do whatever is needed to help a campaign. With his long background of activism in the local Party, Mark understands the nuts and bolts of what it takes to win the ground war. I wholeheartedly endorse his candidacy for Chairman of the Loudoun County Republican Party.

Klye was the Virginia Republican Party’s coordinator for eastern Loudoun. He lead the victory team. He oversaw the day to day trench warfare of the political campaign here in eastern Loudoun. The guy knows who brought the goods to the table. Mark Sell kept a steady stream of volunteers coming through the door. Volunteers are the life’s blood of a political campaign, especially at the local county level. The ability to put boots on the ground is called leadership.

It was this kind of leadership that helped make last falls campaign the success that it was. Politics is about advancing an ideology at the balot box. The Republican Party’s stated ideology is conservative. We all are conservatives here in Loudoun GOP. Some conservatives, like Mark, have been giving voice to conservatism for years in the public square. This involves, among other things, running campaigns. With this experience, Mark is able to consistently bring people to events. This is how campaigns are won. This is why Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli endorsed Mark for our Chairman. This is why the 2009 Victory Campaign in Loudoun endorses Mark Sell in 2010 — to take back the BOS in 2011!

The Free Marketplace Of Ideas Which Is NOVATownHall Blog

Friday, March 5th, 2010

by Joe

Dagnabit this is inspiring, and I sincerely hope we can maintain this level of citizen activism in November 2010, November 2011 and November 2012. Especially, 2010 and 2012 – unless we can get an impeachment movement going, which would take some pressure off the 2012 aspect. I have not yet begun cataloging my issues with Joe Biden, although I am sure there are many. (I do have a feeling that the key to running against Joe Biden is, let Joe be Joe.)

For Loudoun County Republican Committee Chair, Jacob supports Mark Sell. See here and here.

Greg Stone and I support Candace Strother. More here and here.

Since I run the blog and pay for it and do all the nasty behind-the-scenes work and field all the complaints, I get to put Candace in the sidebar with her photo – but make no mistake about it: We NVTH people are divided as to who should be the next LCRC leader. But as a testament to our corporate wonderfulness, let it be spoken that the NOVATownHall bloggers are divided, yet free to speak our minds. If he were not so backlogged and short of sleep, we’d probably even let Grigsby chime in.

In any case, I appreciate the diversity of opinion. Whatever happens on Saturday, I am certain we will all be on the same page on Sunday.

And if he is half the man I think he is, Jacob will likely trump this post with another that sends this one lower down the page.

A New Reason Why Voting For Candace Strother Is The Best Choice Tomorrow

Friday, March 5th, 2010

by Joe

I have possibly one new reason you have not heard so far. I will detail this below – but for starters: To vote for Candace Strother as LCRC Chairperson tomorrow, all you have to do is join me, Linda B, CathyMac, Greg Stone, the Monk, and the current leadership of the undeniably successful Loudoun County Republican Committee, and go to the following location:

When: Saturday, March 6, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Where: Belmont Ridge Middle School (click here for directions)

Show your ID, vote for Candace. It is that simple. Now, here is another reason to do so:

I have now heard from numerous people who are urging me to not vote for Candace Strother, that the key person who has endorsed Candace Strother – current LCRC Chair Glen Caroline – is completely incompetent: Glen Caroline, who took the job of LCRC chairperson when no one else wanted it, and who led the disparate elements of the committee to a united, winning effort in November, 2009; and who won the award as the best unit leader by the state Republican Party in December.

This man – Candace Strother’s opponents keep telling me – supposedly cannot tie his own shoes.

This line of argument has me questioning the veracity and judgment of those telling us not to vote for Candace Strother. It strikes me as borderline unethical to not begin every discussion of Glen Caroline with a THANK YOU for what he accomplished when no one else would even take the job. I happen to like Candace’s opponent a lot, don’t get me wrong, and I have never heard his personal opinion of Glen Caroline – and I forgive my good friends Jacob Ash, Ken Cuccinelli, and others for their difference of opinion. They have obviously not heard the same narrative I have heard, and they are doing what personal loyalty demands which I respect.

But now having heard once more the narrative that the sky is purple, that Glen was a bad leader, I think something is fishy. I think those who are scripting the opposition to Candace Strother are doing so from a position of bad faith. I think it demonstrates a measure of displacement from reality, and when I hear people evangelizing on such a basis I immediately am inclined to do the opposite. I will support whoever wins, but there is a pack of lies going around and I don’t want those spreading it near the controls.

Let’s keep a good thing going here. Join us in voting for Candace tomorrow.

Why Mark Sell is the Right Choice for The LCRC Chairman Today

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

by jacob
Today Loudoun County is at a crossroads. The people need to make a choice, either they can take back control of their government, or, they can leave it to the fiscally challenged Board of Supervisors (BOS) dominated by liberal Democrats. If the choice is to take back control, then Mark Sell is the man for this job. As a life long Republican Mark has been a campaign volunteer, Precinct Captain, Magisterial District Chair and Party Treasurer. Mark has paid his dues and learned the ropes in multiple campaigns. Mark has learned what needs to be done on the ground, in the trenches, to win elections. In the last election Mark was a deputy for Ken Cuccinelli in his successful campaign to become our Attorney General. The McDonnell-Bolling-Cuccinelli team ran as unapologetic conservatives, and won in a landslide.

Mark plan is to field a full suite of candidates, who will build on this momentum. Candidates who will remember their conservative roots, and that their duty is to the people. Candidates who are also unapologetic about their conservatism. Candidates who know that a government that governs well, governs least. Smaller government demands that the spending must be cut. Mark plan is to field a full slate of fiscal conservatives to oust the big spenders on the BOS in 2011, and engage every constituency in our county. This will require seasoned leadership. It is for this reason I support Mark Sell for Chairman of the Loudoun County Republican Party and ask you to come out and vote him on March 6th, 2010.

We all have seen our party lose its way in this last decade. The spending excesses of our Republican congress, and our local county elected officials resulted in a Republican Party as a small minority. The party deserved what it got. The party must never again forget its fiscal conservative roots. Small government is good government. If we do not reduce spending we cannot reduce taxes without running even higher deficits. Runaway government spending is the root of our economic woes. Mark will find candidates who understand this, and more importantly, will not forget this.

As a long time grass roots activist in Loudoun County, Mark has worked hard to stop the Meals Tax, the increases in the Sales Tax and on other liberal boondoggles, giving voice to our shared Republican and conservative ideals in the public square speaking before our BOS on many occasions, so that the people of Loudoun will not be saddled with even higher taxes. The People of Loudoun deserve better than what they have been burdened with in past years. Loudoun has the highest tax rate of any county in VA. Loudoun even has highest taxes of any county in the South. We can and must do better. To do so, we must win the BOS. To do that we need a leader who has been there, in good times and in bad, and who knows the ropes. Mark Sell will not need on the job training. He will be ready to lead from day one — Mark knows Loudoun.

Tag Greason Disappoints

Monday, February 8th, 2010

HOUSE BILL NO. 971 is a sales tax. This bill is most egregious in that is a plan for future spending, when the economy is back on its feet. The bill targets fuel use. It will collected as part of the sales tax and will be buried in the price of other items sold through vending machines; as such the sponsors are attempting for this new levy to be a hidden tax. The bill in its totality is here.

In addition to the sales tax imposed pursuant to § 58.1-603, there is hereby levied and imposed in each county and city embraced by the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority established under § 15.2-4830, a retail sales tax at the rate of 0.50 percent.

The bill reenacts § 58.1-604.1 and § 58.1-608.3, with the former stating:

Use tax on motor vehicles, machinery, tools and equipment brought into Virginia for use in performing contracts.

with the later being the vehicle for setting aside the taxes for application to …

any public facility or to extensions or additions to any public facility

This is not even a targeted tax that will set aside money for roads. Apparently we need more firehouses with Greco-Roman columns like the one near Purceville off of RT7?

That Rust and May sponsored/wrote this mess is not a surprise. The only good thing about Rust is that he is not Stevens Miller. Kory and Watts, both of Fairfax, both Democrats, also cosponsored this bill. What is a surprise is that our freshman delegate Tag Greason voted for this bill. The vote on the committee was:

YEAS–Orrock, Lohr, Greason, Pollard, Englin, Abbott–6.
NAYS–Cline, Cole, Gear, Marshall, R.G.–4.
ABSTENTIONS–0.
NOT VOTING–Johnson–1

Of the five delegates who represent Loudoun county, three are on the wrong side of this issue, and one is not involved. This is the kind of thing that crushed Republicans in the 2006 and 2008 election cycles. Republicans start acting like Democrats and forgot that the money belongs to the people. VA is in a financial hole not because we tax too little, but because we spend too much. When growth in the budget exceeds growth in the economy, the end result is deficits.

The real trouble with our state and federal government is the spending. New taxes are not fiscally responsible as the proponents of such legislation would contend. This is akin to providing an alcoholic with a full bottle of whiskey and calling it responsible because, “Now he won’t drive as badly as he would if he were suffering from withdrawal.” I also have a bridge to sell to anyone who is willing to buy it.

Our legislators are addicted to spending. Taxes are just a means to this end. We must target the spending and reduce it; then the current taxes collected will suffice. If the legislators are able to cut the budget, current revenues will exceed our needs. The size of government relative to GDP is far too large already. People in VA are tightening their belts, so must Richmond. It has been done elsewhere, 34 states are cutting their budgets. We are raising taxes. What is wrong with this picture?

The people we elect, be they Republican or Democrat, must realize that the total size of government must be reduced. To paraphrase the politics of the 90’s, “It’s the spending, stupid.” To reduce spending takes far more courage than it does to levy a new tax that will not take effect for several years, as HB971 does …

no provision of the first enactment, except adding § 30-134.1 to the Code of Virginia, shall become effective until the first day of the third month following six consecutive months in which the unemployment rate in the Commonwealth is equal to or lower than it was in January 2008

It will be a while before this tax is enacted, but it will be a thorn in our sides when it goes into effect. Are the sponsors and supporters of this bill counting on the electorate to forget who foisted this new expense upon them? Why push a bill that is in effect a plan for future government expansion, when the size of government is too big already? Are not fiscal conservatives for smaller government? Is not Tag Greason touted as a fiscal conservative?

An argument that it is a tax that will not go into effect now, but, will wait for good times to return (thereby not harming Virginians) does not hold water. Such a tax will hurt us when it does take effect. Most importantly such a tax will be used to fuel further growth in government and allow for more spending. The end result will be an even larger financial hangover when the lean times return.

The deficits we run today were born years ago when the economy was doing well. The economy expanded and so did the size of our government. Instead of maintaining the level of services, which already were too profligate, the government took the opportunity to grow. The government grew faster than the economy and now in the lean times we are saddled with crushing debt and deficits.

Voting to increase taxes — even if they are in the far future, possibly after Tag retires from politics — is not why the people of Loudoun sent Greason to Richmond. Target the spending Mr Greason. All spending has constituencies that will protect it. It takes far more courage to slay the dragon than it does to feed it.

Tag’s platform touted fiscal conservatism and keeping VA business friendly. HB971 is not fiscal conservatism; HB971 is not business friendly legislation. Forget the lipstick folks, this bill is a pig. Tag is new to Richmond and we have great hopes for him here in Loudoun. Mistakes happen, and this vote was a mistake Tag.

Here We Go Again!

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Just got a mailer from Patricia Phillips for Senate, She starts out talking about the Ronald Reagan Lecture Series that she has created to promote conservative ideas. Then there is blah, blah, blah until the end where she is requesting money for her run in 2011. After all “I earned 43%of the vote”. She still uses her little road as part of her campaign logo.

Why does she feel that she needs to promote conservative ideas to conservatives? Do you think the liberals care or will get anything from these lectures? Did she have an epiphany and decide it is now better to be a pseudo conservative rather than a RINO? After all, she backed a RINO over a true conservative for the U.S. senate race.

She flipped from a core value of illegal immigration to roads. Everyone promises transportation relief. She lost. I won’t be a sucker again.
Personally, I think the RC can come up with a better and more focused candidate. I don’t think Patricia has what it takes or what we need. I am unwilling to bet this dark horse again. I believe that she is only running because of the political landscape turning more conservative. We have seen this oh so many times with both parties. Let’s stay smart and pick someone with core values that don’t waiver.

Happy 2010, The “Down With Democrats” Year!

Friday, January 1st, 2010

Things can only get better.

First, you must read ACTivist’s kick off to the New Year. What a great blog post for 2010.

Second, continuing on the “kicking” theme: Reflect for a moment on the fact that 2010 will be the commencement of continuing kicks to the faces of all Democrats in elected offices, everywhere, culminating in the kicking them out of said offices throughout the next three years. It’s a beautiful thing, and many will live to see it.

Third – on another related note – “Obama” becomes officially an epithet in the American lexicon.

Fourth and finally, let us thank Barack Obama for reminding everyone why liberalism is so horrible by attempting to implement liberal policies, and thereby reminding the basically conservative American people why they voted for Republicans for all those years despite the terrible damage Republicans caused by straying from conservative policies. What would it take to undo the political damage caused by the Bush administration? It took one Obama, one Reid, one Pelosi, and a host of Democrat office holders.

Another Endorsement of Candace Strother From The Right Side of The Aisle

Friday, December 25th, 2009

One of the few people in Loudoun County who I suspect might be to the “right” of me on public policy issues has announced support for Candace Strother for chairperson of the Loudoun County Republican Committee.

Here is Greg Stone’s message of endorsement of Candace Strother.

Merry Christmas all :

I hope the Holiday Season finds you well.

As many of you know our current Chairman Glenn Caroline, has chosen not to seek re-election. Glen has decided to concentrate more of his time to family, his career and his passion, youth baseball. Although, I am disappointed we will be without Glenn’s leadership, Glenn spending his time on Family, The Cause of Freedom and Youth Sports, is a pretty good set of priorities if you ask me. Glenn was a terrific Chairman of the LCRC. His leadership and laser like focus came at a crucial time in this committees history. His shoes will be hard to fill.

You may also be aware that Candace Strother has stepped up and decided to throw her hat in the ring to be our next Chair. Candace has a broad range of support from LCRC members, Republican Elected Officials to include our current Chairman and much of the LCRC leadership team. I as a member of the committee and in my capacity as the Potomac District Chairman , I wholeheartedly support Candace Strother as our next LCRC Chair. Going back a few years, I have gotten to know and admire Candace Strother. Her intellect, conservative principles and leadership skills equip her well for the task at hand. One only needs to examine Candace’s resume to discover the wide range of experience she brings to the table. It is this experience at the highest levels of past Republican administrations and her work at the Heritage Foundation that will enable her to be principled and disciplined leader.

We live in very uncertain times. A very left of center Democrat party has taken over Washington, negatively effected the Commonwealth of Virginia, as well as drive the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors off a cliff. Our County, State and Federal Governments are broke, yet some continue on a reckless path of spending and Government expansion. It is we Conservatives, we Republicans, who must begin to make the needed corrections at all levels of government. That work having already begun with our election victories in November, must continue. In order to sustain and build on that success, we must have effective and focused leadership. That leadership begins here in Loudoun County with Candace Strothers.

I ask you you to join me in supporting Candace Strother as our next LCRC Chair. Please take time to examine Candace’s biography and resume on her new website candace4chair.

I further ask you to reach out to Candace via this site with messages of endorsement or questions pertaining to her take on issues, or her vision for the LCRC moving forward. I promise you will be impressed.

Again, Merry Christmas.

Why I am supporting Candace Strother for Loudoun County Republican Committee chair

Monday, December 21st, 2009
Candace L. Strother

Candace L. Strother

Shortly after Glen Caroline announced he was stepping down as LCRC chair, almost two weeks ago, news came that several people whose opinion I respect were supporting Candace Strother to take the helm next. A few of these were people I agree with on many things, and one was a guy I agree with on everything – but this was not a clique and I learned of each separately.

Put in touch with Candace last week, I asked her several questions regarding her priorities and tenets, and what I should expect when I rejoin the committee. Here are her answers, which I think should make it evident why I am supporting her to lead the LCRC.

[Below the fold is her very impressive bio - another major reason for my endorsement - along with further reasoning from me, such as it is, and my take on Mark Sells' candidacy for the position.]

The Task at Hand:

On November 3, 2009, as a result of the hard work and dedication of hundreds of wonderful volunteers in Loudoun County and countless more across all the counties of Virginia, the political calculus in our Commonwealth changed.  On that night our conservative candidates regained control of the Statehouse and the House of Delegates. This great victory brings us in Loudoun County both enormous opportunity and great responsibility.  We Republicans must now work with state and national party officials to build on this momentum by setting the tone and vision for our party, while effectively managing our party process to implement winning grassroots strategies for our candidates in Loudoun in 2010 and 2011. There is so much at stake in those two elections for our County, for our Commonwealth and for our Nation. The LCRC needs a Chair with the experience, the skills, the strength and vision to bring together the teams, the resources and the ideas necessary to develop the current momentum for victory in those elections.

My Beliefs:

I am running for LCRC Chair because I believe it is imperative to keep the momentum going from our tremendous wins statewide and the gains we made here in Loudoun County.  I believe that holding to our core values and promoting the central conservative issues of fiscal responsibility, limited government and lower taxes is the winning model, as it was for the McDonnell, Bolling, and Cuccinelli ticket. I believe there is still much to do to grow that model at the County level.  I believe I have the experience and the leadership necessary to deliver this strategy and most importantly, expand the grassroots organization and unified team effort put in place by our outgoing Chair, Glen Caroline.  I will assemble a team of seasoned and new leaders that will build and expand the party in 2010, laying the groundwork for a strong win in our 10th District Congressional race.  Strengthening the party in 2010 will position us to keep fiscally responsible Republicans in the winning column in the myriad of local Loudoun races in 2011. With strong wins in 2010 and 2011, we will position Loudoun to enter the 2012 Presidential election cycle unified, organized and mobilized.   I am confident I can bring the Party together, focused on these goals and motivated as a winning team. I believe I am the seasoned leader who can be the catalyst for this vision.

My Promise:

As LCRC Chair I will work with our local party members and elected officials, state and national party officials, be a leader that sets the tone and vision for the local party, reach out to like minded constituent groups, improve fundraising and effectively manage the process and procedure of local party business. I will use the McDonnell, Bolling, Cuccinelli model to unify the party and implement winning grassroots strategies in order to ensure future victory for our candidates in Loudoun in 2010 and 2011 AND 2012.

More below the fold.

Yet another LCRC controversy?

Sunday, December 20th, 2009

Controversy is not too strong a word for the fact there is now an official race for chairmanship of the Loudoun County Republican Committee.

Candace Strother, who announced her desire to take the helm over a week ago, has the support of a large segment of committee members who were instrumental in the LCRC’s rebirth during the last election cycle. After getting largely pounded in the 2007 and 2008 elections, as well as riven with internal conflict, the committee under the leadership of Glen Caroline rebounded this past November with an across the board clobbering of Democrat candidates in Loudoun County.

Now that Mark Sell has announced he is also running for LCRC chair, there should be an interesting debate. Mark is a great conservative whom I have spent a little time in the trenches with over the years, while Candace is someone I do not know at all (but hope to eventually). However, I think what allowed local Republicans to create such an overwhelmingly positive turn was unity and an end to internal division. With all that is facing our country right now, conservatives need to form a solid front and there is no other place to do that than within the Republican Party.

As a part-time worker but not being even a member of the LCRC I realize my opinion matters little for what will ultimately happen, but my preference is to continue the positive example that Glen Caroline set – getting people who are in agreement on 80% of the issues to agree to disagree on the 20% opinions they don’t share.

I am all for keeping everyone honest, and Mark more than anyone has earned the right to contest the chairmanship position. But let’s be sure the final result is complete unity.

My leaning, based on an appraisal of the variety of people who have already announced their support for Candace Strother, is to support Candace Strother, for the simple reason that we have to win in November 2010 and November 2011 and November 2012 – because this pack of idiots, these drooling-moron Democrats who currently occupy so many elected positions from Leesburg to Washington, DC, need to be rode out of town on a rail. They need to be not merely defeated but humiliated and disgraced, sent home packing under such an aura of failure that their party never wins another major election again. Their name itself – the “Democrat party” – needs to become a term of opprobrium, a linguistic flourish akin to “pinko” that, when wielded, will evoke howls of indignation.

The only way all this comes to pass is for conservatives who are 80% in agreement to join forces.

I heard of a recent local event at which a rousing speech by perhaps the most important newly elected official in our state was followed by an ice-water-bath speech highlighting internal divisions within the Republican party. That, my friends, is what we need to put a stop to, pronto, and I will make it my mission in life for the next two years to discredit anyone who persists in that sort of asininity. Our country is at stake. Democrats need to be thrown out of every office they currently hold, period. I am looking solely for the most efficient way to make that happen.

Andrea McGimsey Presentation On Behalf Of Climate Prosperity Project

Sunday, December 13th, 2009

Below is a condensed version of the video referenced the other day of Potomac District Supervisor Andrea McGimsey giving a presentation in Delaware on behalf of her employer, the Climate Prosperity Project.

Someone may claim this version of the publicly available video is in some sense “out of context” so I urge you to click the link above to watch the unedited video if you are motivated to do so.

I think this one below may be useful if you only have six minutes instead of 30.

Basically, this shows that Supervisor McGimsey really should consider answering the questions posed by Loudoun Insider.

Mixing public office with personal gain is a big no-no, and was one of the arguments Ms. McGimsey made against her opponent in the 2007 election which she won. So far, she has ignored the question, and a certain amusing left wing dude has tried to make the case that only the “disreputable” blogs of NovaTownHall and TooConservative are making an issue of possible conflicts of interest.

By taking the cover-up tack to the next level and going after the messengers, Jonathan unwittingly is helping Supervisor McGimsey paint herself into a corner that looks like it will be difficult to get out of unless she comes clean, pronto. As the video below demonstrates, there are a ton of questions to be answered and the conflict of interest question is chief among them.

Such as: How exactly do you have a Loudoun County employee “MIT student” write a program that you then offer to potential business clients for free, and not have a major ethics problem?

Yeah, it might be “disreputable” to ask the question, but if so that is a cross I am willing to bear, Jonathan. Frankly, it looks to me like some very frightened Democrats are circling the wagons without even thinking through the consequences for their own credibility and that of their issues.

You want to drive a final nail into the coffin of climate change alarmist credibility? Blindly throw your support to someone who has perched herself WAAAY out on a limb in terms of credibility.

Conservative Resurgence, Yes – Republican, Not Yet

Sunday, March 29th, 2009

If there was ever a question whether most Americans hold conservative values, recent media ratings reports remind us. The liberal-leaning news organizations are taking it in the neck from the one outlet that dares to publish conservative viewpoints:

Post-Obama election, CNN is tanking, big time.

Fox News is in the stratosphere. Below is from today’s Drudge Report

CABLE NEWS RACE
THU., MARCH 26, 2009

FOXNEWS O’REILLY 3,420,000
FOXNEWS HANNITY 2,987,000
FOXNEWS BECK 2,374,000
FOXNEWS GRETA 2,160,000
FOXNEWS BAIER 1,940,000
FOXNEWS SHEP 1,888,000
MSNBC OLBERMANN 1,322,000
CNNHN GRACE 1,300,000
MSNBC MADDOW 1,208,000
CNN KING 1,144,000
CNN COOPER 1,118,000

Fox is not just ahead. Fox has lapped the field.

The top three Fox News program ratings are all over 90% higher than those of the next nearest network, and cumulatively Fox News is to all of its competitors like Coca Cola is to your local lemonade stand.

Incidentally Rush Limbaugh’s ratings have doubled since Obama was sworn in.

Barack Obama and Nancy Pelosi have reignited conservative thinking on public policy in America. Thank you, Democrats, for that.

The American people have made it clear they are more in line with “conservative” than “liberal” ideas. The question remains whether enough Republicans will take up the mantle of conservatism in upcoming elections to make a difference. Based on past history, I cannot guarantee they will.

Loudoun Board’s Vote Against The Redskins Could Have Political Repercussions

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008

…just like the rotation of the Earth could play a role in tomorrow’s sunrise.

This came up in the lively thread at Too Conservative and also at Operative Word (well worth reading them both): Ya think anyone might be gearing up to use today’s vote as a campaign issue?

I’m gonna say … probably.

Check that: What I meant was, OH GODALMIGHTY YES!

And here is how it just might start. 6″ x 9″ folded size, 4 pgs, glossy card stock, entire piece flooded in dark burgundy ink full bleed (all text reversed or in reversed boxes), opens to a spread with photos (names in captions) of each of the five Supervisors who voted against the co-branding project, perhaps a quote from Andrea McGimsey that she has a football signed by “Redskins Quarterback Frank Herzog,” a summary of what Loudoun County missed out on, “logo”-type gold text representing “Redskins Hall of Fame” facility with wording to the effect of “What Loudoun County Just Lost.” Back cover is mailer portion on the bottom, and on the top something like: “Five Supervisors killed the deal to make Loudoun County the ‘Home of the Washington Redskins’ and instead sent the money for HOSPITALITY TRAINING for the ‘Journey Through Hallowed Ground’” – with an inset photo of Rt 15 south of Leesburg during rush hour.

This might be the cover:
Loudoun Supervisors Vote Against The Redskins

But that’s all probably just crazy talk, so please disregard.
