Where you are held accountable for your convictions and record

Old (and I feel every day) ACT has been working 14 to 16 hours a day, 7 days a week for far longer than I can remember. I lose track of the day and month at times and the seasons are about the only thing that give me some semblance of the time. Not looking for sympathy here. Someone has to do the work and I thought when I retired 7 years ago that things would be different. Probably the reason God tells me not to make plans cause I only need to worry and live for today. What keeps me working is my circumstance, one of my grandbabies, and a tie that I just can’t seem (or don’t want to) let go of. Well now I am local for awhile so I can play here for a while. The object of the text is work.

I keep hearing that there is no work. Kids today are looking for those high paying, meaningful jobs like pro sports player, psychologist, actor, web designer and such. Whatever happened to meaningful work? My organization is staffed well but my company has had vacancies for years. Good work that takes brains and thinking on your own. For some reason we get no prior experience or those that want a paycheck without putting forward any effort. Needless to say, we have lots of vacancies. Now because I have been doing what I do for eons (I helped invent the square wheel) I am given projects to do alone, doing 3 or 4 individual jobs, only because I make things happen and organize well, including being everywhere at once. My body hates me and my mind has been playing cruel games. It is called old age. Shoot, I couldn’t remember the name of that dumb blonde that wanted to give oral gratification ( subjective at best) to any guy that voted for Hillbilly. I mean I really considered taking my gov’t money back and relaxing, contemplating my naval. Unfortunately I just can’t up and leave the company or organization without knowing my void has been taken care of. Where are those up and comers? Where are those eager beavers? Where is that next generation; anxious to take the feigns and make a mark in the world? It used to be companies wanted to dump the old for the young. Now they are looking for the old and experienced for less money and benefits because the young aren’t all they were cracked up to be. Maybe they need a new class in academia: work ethics. Novel idea. I know that some of us elders would appreciate the company and relief.

Charity

Something has been nagging at me today and I have decided to vent it now. It deals with charity. It is that time of the season to open our hearts (which should be open throughout the year) and give what we can to those in need. Many of us can no longer give as we wish because of economic circumstances and an economy bent on ruining the country for all. I just want you to give some thought to who and where you may want to contribute because there are those in need and those who game.

I pay attention to what happens around me. I very close attention to people: their mannerisms, their moods, their words, and how they present themselves in their lives as viewed by others. I have family members needing assistance where they can’t get it from anywhere else or just feel ashamed doing so. My son-in-law just came up with a condition where he can barely walk without getting winded. The VA won’t give him disability because that has to be decided by the family doctor. The family doctor won’t say he is disabled because that is the job of the VA. His work won’t fire him for not showing up because the employer doesn’t want to pay workman’s comp. it also doesn’t allow him to get unemployment. In the meantime, his wife applies for 10 jobs or more a week and can’t even get work at the local Wal-Mart or McDonalds. No income anywhere and they and their kids need to eat and have a roof over their heads. Meanwhile, illegals can just go to the hospital like it is a private physician’s office and get the medical they need. VA patients die waiting for appointments but illegals get whatever they want.

I know quite a few illegals through work. They laugh about having 2 jobs, leaving communally and sending money back home. Many are paid under the table. They talk about getting drunk and chasing women while they stand their smoking cigarettes. When asked how they can survive they just say that charities give them what they want ( not what they need). They go to churches and outreach centers and get food from those food stores. Clothing the same way. Kids go to school free and are assisted with lunches. In the meantime, American families are starving and needing but their is limited supplies of charities where they can receive. Usually there are always long lines and most of the people that are already there, waiting, are immigrants (yes, too many of whom are illegal).

I have witnessed on numerous occasions, while shopping at my neighborhood grocery store, immigrants, who have no command of the English language, buying food with food stamps (or a special credit type card now). The items that don’t fit on the list like spirits, cigarettes, and other items, well, they just pull out a wad of cash and pay outright. These people are not dressed shabbily and are wearing jewelry, much of which is not costume. How are they allowed to do this? Let me ask this question instead. If you come here illegally, why has the government let you in, without means of support, and house you in hotel rooms? Where does the food come from? Where do the clothes come from? When they place you somewhere, how do they survive from that point on? And now we are talking about bringing in refugees from another culture and world. Same questions: how will they survive on their own?

Whose fault is this mess? It goes anywhere from the lazy people who put themselves into the predicament to our government. You see, the government IS charity (usually called entitlements but also needless, wasteful and illegal spending). You and I pay for this. Those Americans, who should have priority over all others, who are truly desperately in need, can’t be helped sometimes because of limited resources and competition with those who don’t deserve nor shouldn’t get assistance. It is more than a shame it is a disgrace. Much assistance comes from churches and other organizations that receive contributions. I used to be one of those contributors but now I am offended by them because of how they exacerbate the problem.

Let me tell you a little secret. We are all God’s children. Christians are directed to help the poor and those in need. Christians aren’t rich. There are too many people in the world that have “needs”. Our government already allows the flow of money to go to these other nations with “needs”. When you give charity, it may make you feel good but it won’t get you any closer to Heaven. You just can’t buy your way in and that is a fact. So now those that have some means and wish to contribute must pick and choose because of limited funds. That would be me. I choose family first, and if I have any left over “disposable” funds, I am going to make sure it goes to Americans and those who really have a need. I will not give to the churches anymore and if I have to sponsor a family directly (where I can see who they are and what their needs are) then that is exactly what I will do. Too many people in Appalachia that could use my help. I was born and raised in the South and I have seen poor and lived it myself. You still have gamers here too but you also have good people that are proud and wish to do for themselves. Sometimes they just can’t and need some help. Not cellphones or IPads or jewelry but food, shoes, coats and fix the leaks in the roof over their heads, if they have a roof over their head.

I am not here to tell you what to do or how to do it. You do charity as is directed from your heart. If you are liberal, you don’t have a heart so you expect the government to do your charity for you. We already understand that. I am just saying that it is time to think about who really is in need and direct your gifts accordingly. You won’t go to Heaven for it but you might feel better. Most important, those who receive will have their prayers answered and that is the greatest gift of all

Yes, the left is going bonkers for Ginsberg’s “blistering” dissent from the Supreme Court majority’s ruling in Burwell v Hobby Lobby.

Let’s take those “8 Best Lines” seriatim:

Ginsburg wrote that her five male colleagues, “in a decision of startling breadth,” would allow corporations to opt out of almost any law that they find “incompatible with their sincerely held religious beliefs.”

The first thing to note is that Dana Liebelson does not consider Justice Breyer male. Interesting. Maybe she knows something we don’t.

But be that as it may, if such laws are incompatible with sincerely held religious beliefs, then they are clearly in violation of the First Amendment unless they protect the rights of others, and should be overturned by the Court. But then, the requirement from which Hobby Lobby and Conestoga won relief is NOT A LAW. It is merely a REGULATION written by a nameless bureaucrat. Also, the regulation does not protect anyone’s rights — the employees of these companies can still obtain the abortifacients they desire.

The exemption sought by Hobby Lobby and Conestoga would…deny legions of women who do not hold their employers’ beliefs access to contraceptive coverage.

Those women obviously have jobs, or this would not be an issue. Therefore, they can pay for them themselves.

Religious organizations exist to foster the interests of persons subscribing to the same religious faith. Not so of for-profit corporations. Workers who sustain the operations of those corporations commonly are not drawn from one religious community.

Irrelevant — they can go work for someone else if they do not like their employer’s benefits package.

Any decision to use contraceptives made by a woman covered under Hobby Lobby’s or Conestoga’s plan will not be propelled by the Government, it will be the woman’s autonomous choice, informed by the physician she consults.

In which case, it should be her autonomous PAYMENT, too. If you want to choose the tune, you can choose to pay the piper.

It bears note in this regard that the cost of an IUD is nearly equivalent to a month’s full-time pay for workers earning the minimum wage.

No, it really doesn’t “bear note”. If one cannot afford an IUD, one can choose to use other forms of birth control. Or, choose not to have vaginal sex.

Would the exemption…extend to employers with religiously grounded objections to blood transfusions (Jehovah’s Witnesses); antidepressants (Scientologists); medications derived from pigs, including anesthesia, intravenous fluids, and pills coated with gelatin (certain Muslims, Jews, and Hindus); and vaccinations[?]…Not much help there for the lower courts bound by today’s decision.

Sure. Why not? Again — if you don’t like it, get another job.

Approving some religious claims while deeming others unworthy of accommodation could be ‘perceived as favoring one religion over another,’ the very ‘risk the [Constitution's] Establishment Clause was designed to preclude.

Well, that’s easy — just approve them all. Duh.

The court, I fear, has ventured into a minefield.

No — it is the legislature (in passing the law in the first place) that planted the mines, and the executive branch (in writing such heinous regulations) that is going for a stroll therein. They deserve to have it blow up in their faces.

We all have very busy lives. We focus more on ourselves and immediate family circle as we plod, trod, race through this life we most hold dear. Sometimes we lose track of our extended families with such a busy schedule we run. Next thing you know, people are gone and upon our reflection, we wonder why it happened and what we were doing that we allowed these people to escape our company and some of our time.

Such is the case with my neighbor and dear friend. We have done many things together and enjoyed deep conversations on varying subjects. Our “busy” schedules with work and family have lessened the times we get together, other than some occasional banter over the fence. I’m use to his habits as he is with mine. I was away for the month of May and some of April. He usually takes a sibling outing during that same time period but little things were out of place. Children were mowing the yard. I didn’t see the grill smoking from the meal being cooked. Didn’t hear that Chevy pickup rumbling to the store or work. And the window of the man-cave has been shut for much too long. I caught his wife mowing the yard and inquired about his presence. The response I received was not what I expected. He is the same age as I and found out in March that he has cancer. He has done the chemo and radiation and is very weak; not seeing visitors. We are both proud people and keep things from others. And sometimes we keep it from each other as to not cause burden or concern, which is the case here.

My friend is with family and I offered to take all burdens from the women during this crisis so that they may focus on their Dad and husband. I don’t know how this will turn out and I don’t know whether my friend will shun his pride and allow me to see him in this depleted state. Wish I could talk with him again. I was able to converse with him right before this happened but it just doesn’t feel like enough to satisfy me now. No NASCAR, no vehicles, no Nats, no politics, no work; all things that were on the routine conversation menu. I pray my friend gets through this but, anymore, moving late into life, I pray I am able to talk and see those people that have made my life what it is. This is but another reminder to all that we only have the current day to do what we need to because tomorrow just might not be there. Call someone. Visit someone. Leave no regrets.

So we have a state election for the top candidates and the zombies (that would be mindless/low information voters) elect 2.5 sleazy candidates. McAwful was right up front on his socialist intentions. Herring made assertions to pander to a select voting block. He informed that block that he would work to CHANGE the law (a constitutional amendment). Unfortunately, instead of doing it the legal way and upholding his newly sworn oath as the chief law guru for the state, he pulls a Holder and gets to decide what he will and will not enforce. Check it out. So he lied to reach his position. Now he is refusing to do his job. Perfect.

And meanwhile, the lefties are all about ruining their enemies’ lives, like what they are doing to McDonnell. Unfortunately, what McDonnell did was not against the law in Virginia. Who else do we know who got hung for NO wrong doing. I’m not saying that it doesn’t appear personally unethical, but that doesn’t make it a crime. Just change the rules. The lefties know this and that is why there is a FEDERAL indictment, where there is no jurisdiction. Sound familiar still? Well, aside your personal feelings on this, is this any worse than these clowns? I mean really, what’s the stink? Hmmmm?

While listening to the radio the other day, this Phil from Duck Dynasty seemed to be the news buzz. Some Brian and Larry program was talking to callers and one caller said if the tables were turned, no commotion would be made. At this point, Larry the bozo says: “gays are normal people; just different”. I was infuriated over such a stupid statement but it did give me pause. Just what is normal and who determines it?

I thought about how I grew up and what was normal in my sphere, as well the rest of society. Normal was giving respect to elders with ma’am and sir and calling elders by their last name–not their first. Normal was opening doors for others or thanking those that did it for you. Normal was helping a neighbor or stranger whenever asked or you saw assistance was needed. Normal was trusting the cop on the beat or wanting to be one when you grew up. Same with the fireman. Normal was having a job and being responsible, where it wasn’t beneath you to be a milkman or work in a factory. Normal was going hunting after school or fishing to help put supper on the table, even if you had to take your gun to school. Normal was Christmas with all it’s splendor and all buildings had displays, including local government buildings. Many of you will say racial discrimination was also normal. In some areas of the country it was and that normal exists to before we became a country. There are many more normals of my time but it has changed over the years.

I remember when movies were 15 cents and you could buy most candy for a penny. That is what I grew up in. So I thought about where I am today. Normal seems to be about self now instead of others…..except where the government is concerned. They think about what they can do for others with an unlimited supply of money from everyone else. The new normal is lack of responsibility for one’s self. The new normal is being loud, unruly and disrespectful. The new normal cuts people off–anywhere, doing anything because self is number one. New normal is talking on the phone ANYWHERE, while disturbing the people around you. New normal are children calling elders by their first name, with possible trailing names added on. New normal is trespass and destruction of property not your own. New normal is blocking aisle ways, walkways and entrances with total disregard to others. New normal is being your brothers’ keeper, with a billion brothers and more. New normal is scams, lies and mistrust.

So when I hear that homosexuals are “normal people, just different”, I have to understand things differently now. Child molesters are normal, just different. Abortionists are normal, just different. Kidnappers are normal, just different. Kids that play the Knock-out game are normal, just different. Catching on yet? Basically ALL people are normal, just different. Except for Christians. They aren’t normal at all–just different. We’ve come a long way. Unfortunately, when you are sliding down a steep slope, it doesn’t take much to slip to the bottom. Normal, just different, indeed!

I will give this guy one thing: he’s sponging off his friends instead of his parents. Ikinda think his parents may have thrown this Sean Penn act-a-like out of the house, truth be known. Watch this video (it’s after the Shell commercial) and listen to his honesty. What he represents kinda reminds me of the song “Money for nothing” from Dire Straits. Let’s see: Rattlife for a t-shirt, drinking beer in his jot too shabby pick-up, living in California, partying without a care in the world. Yup. All the pieces fit.
