Super Bowl commercials not overly impressive so far

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

My take so far: what a colossal waste of money most of the super bowl commercials are. Anhauser Busch especially should be ashamed of their marketing department.

The game is ok. I thought the colts would win by a mile but that’s not happening.

Giants-Patriots Super Bowl

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

I’m not “live blogging” this because live blogging something you want to enjoy really sucks the enjoyment out of it. Sort of like live blogging sex, which I can tell you does not work, chiefly because of ergonomic reasons.

But I will say, this is shaping up as one of the most interesting Super Bowls in a long time, certainly since my Cowboys have been involved. We’ve been through three quarters of basically a chess match, and now it is balls to the wall mode. Genius has nothing to do with it – it is going to be a matter of which set of guys is the scrappiest.

The next 10 minutes will be down to who is better at sandlot football. You have to love the Giants – they have been kicking ass and eating glass since before the regular season ended. Good stuff.

UPDATE: I liked the shot of Jeremy Shockey in the luxury box – it looked like he had a Corona and a margarita in front of him. Sounds about right.

UPDATE II: New England takes the lead with less than 3 minutes left. Oh yes, this is going to be sandlot at its best. It’s up to you now, Eli. One more possession, one more shot. Need to march down the entire field. And the first two plays in this last Giants drive were tepid at best.

UPDATE III: GOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLL! GOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLL! GOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLL! Minutes to go and NY is ahead. Oh my Eli has established himself as one of the greats and this entire Giants team is one for the history books. They just knocked off the Goliath. HAH! Tom Brady has 30 seconds to come back. I say, the way the Gints defense has played – NO WAY. They will be motivated.

UPDATE IV: HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!! Tom Coughlin, the perpetually outraged one, really deserved this. Oh goodness, this was one great football game. Congrats to the Giants players and fans. This is one of the best championship victories ever.

I bet Tiki wishes he’d hung around for one more season.

UPDATE V: Someone more eloquent than I should write the story of this Giants team, because it was pretty amazing for these guys to win the number of games they won on the road, and then to march through the playoffs with a depleted roster – again, on the road – and plow over the underachieving, prima donna Cowboys who spent their New Years week in Cancun while the Giants were eating glass and laying it all on the line. You could not have a starker example of a team that won against all conventional wisdom and all odds. I can’t wait to see the movie.
